FORMER Celtic target Steven Fletcher is poised to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Scotland striker’s contract at Sunderland has expired after spending the second half of the season with French side Marseille.

Fletcher, linked with the five-in-a-row champions in recent seasons. is also on the wanted list of Norwich City who will join the Hillsborough outfit in England’s second tier in the new season.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is reported to have offered a longer contract to Fletcher than Alex Neil’s newly-relegated Carrow Road outfit.

The Portuguese gaffer aims to team up Fletcher with former Parkhead hitman Gary Hooper as he prepares his side for another promotion push after losing the Championship play-off final to Hull City at the end of the last campaign.

Former Hibs, Wolves and Burnley forward Fletcher struggled to make an impact in France and scored only three goals in 16 games.

He netted four Premier League goals for the Stadium of Light team before Sam Allardyce allowed him to leave on loan in January.
