FLOP BERGET PROMISES PAIN FOR THE HOOPS

The left-sided attacker was brought to Glasgow by fellow-Norwegian Ronny Deila last summer on a temporary transfer from Championship outfit Cardiff City.

And Berget was involved in the club’s double exit from Europe’s elite club competition.

After being handed a reprieve following their 6-1 aggregate defeat by Legia Warsaw in the third qualifier due to an administration error by the Polish club, Celtic then lost to Slovenian outfit Maribor in the Champions League play-off.

Berget left the Glasgow club in January after just two goals in eight appearances and has resurrected his career with Swedish champions Malmo, who reached the group stages for the first time last season. Now the player has the chance to return to Celtic Park and try to see Malmo through again.

He said: “I remember last year – Malmo went to the Champions League, but I didn’t. I went out twice. It was a bad feeling, those four games.

“I reckon that feeling is easy for the Celtic players to find. They don’t want to experience that again and I don’t want to experience that feeling again.

“I want to go in the Champions League and I know the Celtic players want to do the same.”

Deila saw his team topple out of the competition for a second time last year when Maribor claimed an aggregate victory with a late goal in Glasgow

Asked if he had fond memories of his time at Celtic, Berget replied: “My two goals in my home debut against Dundee United – and I am hoping to be able to do that again tonight.

“It is good to be back and I’m looking forward to the game. I think it will be a good game.

“Regarding the five or six months here, I enjoyed the first bit of it. It started all right, but after a while it lacked in game time. I didn’t get to play much after that and so it ended how it ended.”
