Fog of stress begins to lift from Lennon

980

A line has hopefully been drawn under the stress Neil Lennon has lived under during the last two years with the conviction of two men found guilty of sending bombs in the post.  In a statement, Neil said: This has been a very stressful and difficult time for myself and my family and clearly I am glad that it is over”, before adding, “I will forever be thankful to the Police for the way in which they have handled this matter.”

Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell, added: “No one could imagine the pressure [Neil Lennon] has been under during the past two years.  He has coped with this particular episode, last year’s assault and the, at times, seemingly unrelenting attacks from many quarters.

“In my opinion, no-one in Scottish footballing history has had to contend with this level of pressure whilst trying to do their job.  Neil Lennon is someone who has shown tremendous character and resilience, and we will continue to support Neil in any way we can.”

This month has been made all the more difficult for Neil Lennon by the sudden death of Paul McBride, also a target of the bombing campaign.  Neil Lennon said, “Finally, I would like to mention my good friend Paul McBride.   His sad passing remains very raw to those close to him, we continue to miss him dearly and my thoughts remain very much with Paul’s family.”

The SFA have written to Neil Lennon three times since the start of the trial earlier this month to capitalise on perceived transgressions by the Celtic manager while yesterday a former referee used his newspaper column to undermine Neil’s position at Celtic.

These people really do need to get a grip.

Within minutes of the verdict being announced yesterday news of Stilian Petrov’s serious illness was made public.  Stilian will received the very best medical attention and all our prayers.

    Paul 67,

I noticed our old friend Jim McCluskie was the guy in the stand watching the referee , although that may be his normal seat , anyway after yesterday’s inappropriate remarks , do you know if Clark does any work as a referee observer ?

Also I watched the C4 piece last night , and it suddenly struck me ( probably 2 years after everyone else) that if former Rankers players have benefitted from discretionary loans, wich in theory they have to pay back , it may explain their reticence to criticise the aforesaid benefactor …hence the sycophantic loyalty in the various press columns.

Fat boab will be pure ragin’ at the MSM if they report sone’s dive. Read back re: Charlie Nick, on a totally unrelated matter, I remember reading about a well known sportsman who was leaving a pub in glasgow when he bumped into a young man causing him to spill his drink on his jacket. When the young sportsman went to leave without proffering an apology, the young man remonstrated with him, at this point the well-known sportsman blew his nose on a £20 pound note threw it on the floor and invited the young man to pay for his dry-cleaning from it.

Good call Paul. The behaviour of ex-referees and ex-players with regard to Neil has been despicable. These people are clearly relishing being able to put the boot in and picking up a cheque for it into the bargain. In particular, the language used by Clark was disgusting. These articles could have taken a completely different tone and the writers still picked up their coin. But they did not – preferring instead to attack with the implied notion that Neil was somehow responsible for his own misfortune. They masquerade as neutral comment but betray their true agenda by the line they take. Well done to Scot Brown for pointing this up in his press conference.

The behaviour of Vincent Lunny at the SFA also needs to be addressed and I think the club should be asking some serious questions. We still do not have the transparency or independent review of refereeing performance that is needed to instil confidence. I may have missed the news but I don’t recall hearing much about progress on this front over recent months. Someone on CQN recently suggested written and published referee reports a couple of days after a game. That would be a good start, but there is just so much that is wrong and needs to be fixed. I am afraid I have lost confidence in Mr. Regan. Rather than wasting his time meeting bigoted buffoons, he should be seen to be addressing the significant crisis at his own organisation. The lack of communication or even acknowledgement from him of what can only be described as the most serious of issues demonstrates he is not up to this job. The reorganisation of the SFA needs someone who has strong leadership, courage, and great communication and PR skills. By both his action and inaction Mr. Regan has demonstrated he has none of these. I fully expect him to keep his tin helmet on and stay in the trench until the end of his contract, pick up his cheque and head back to Yorkshire. I’ll be delighted if I’ve got this completely wrong and he delivers, but based on what we’ve seen to date, I won’t be holding my breath.
