Football bites you in the bum if you are not ready

231

I was a bit surprised so few first team players participated in the opening preseason friendly against Pinkafeld yesterday.  We are in Champions League qualification action in 12 days and there are only two friendlies between now and then: against Wiener SC in Saturday and St Gallen on Tuesday.  There is a lot of work to do in those two games.  Lincoln Red Imps impact on our collective memories is still fresh, I hope the same is true of Neil Lennon, who was freshly installed at Hibernian at the time.  Football bites you in the bum if you are not ready, as Neil’s fellow-Irishman, Brendan Rodgers will attest.

Our Champions League opponents, Sarajevo, were also in action yesterday, losing 2-0 to Slovacko, who finished seventh on the Czech top flight last season.  Results count for nothing in these games, which are all about fitness, but you would rather see an opponent struggle to score and keep clean sheets than to prosper.

There is a very good chance we will add at least Christopher Jullien to the squad before facing Sarajevo, I’m not convinced we will add any more in the coming days, not that we could expect a new arrival to go straight into action so soon.

Bitterly disappointed with the Turnbull saga.. The Celtic PR machine needs some WD40. In fact maybe some “communication” between officials and our manager..

What happened to conducting our business in private whether it was the WILO window or the Dembele gate……

Re KT-It’s always hard to see your best players move on,IF he does go,we are seemingly looking at 2/3 LBs,guy far Rapid Vienna,French guy,and Taylor fae Killie. If we bring one of them in,it looks like he is going,BUT this time IMO they are getting it done properly, get someone in and then sell. This was not done last year ,when Boyata had no intention of staying, and it was the optimum time to sell Dembele, succession management was nil then, and cost us millions.

  3. Because when we conduct our business in private we get people crying that there is no transparency and that the fans should know what is going on yada yada yada

Not the fault of ours on this occasion, it was Motherwell that put out a statement initially that we had put in a bid for Turnbull.

Of course Lawwell knew about the lad’s dodgey knee and new the final outcome – just playing the support all along

    How do you know this…………..

  6. Can anyone tell me how Turnbull , Harper , Connell compare to Arribo. Don’t really watch much English football these days . Thanks in advance.

To be fair that photograph f Turnbull in the Hoops was not released by the Club, it was leaked by someone that was present.

As I say mate do not think you can blame us this time.

I’m not the only one who thought Gutman looked fit, hungry and assured – albeit against Tyrolean part-timers – last night. Was he or was he not signed as a serious deputy to young Kieran? If we need another LB why is Andy on the books at all – or was it just about annoying the sevvies by trumping their move?

  9. Luca John Connell …………………………..

Celtic FC avoid spending 3.25 mill . on a player who has failed a physical examination .

    Celebrate.

But only if you support Celtic.

  11. GENE on 27TH JUNE 2019 1:45 PM

Don’t think so mate, you never know you may still see Turnbull in the Hoops in future. We done the right think IMHO by trying to renegotiate. Our terms were not acceptable so we walked away. CFC have been transparent on this one.

    Keep the Faith!

Encouraging as Harper is cheaper and played at a higher level.

Wondering if Harper was plan B or we hoping to line up with Harper and Turnbull….

  13. Macjay

Exactly, and you can rest assured it would be the same people on here complaining had we signed him and he was out for long periods with injuries asking why it wasn’t picked up in the medical

    Like i said

  14. Here’s a thing. If Arsenal can only get to £20m and Kieran is definitely unsettled and wants to join them why not do what PSG did recently – put in a 50% sell-on clause. That way we don’t get fleeced.

But tbh I hope he stays for the 9, then hopefully 10. After that he can do what he likes.

  15. Long way to go in the transfer window. Congratulations to all the moaners on here who have some ammunition for the next few days.

Personally, I don’t think the club have been sitting on their hands. Trips by Lennon to Paris FC & WBA games to scout players. Rekeem Harper and Luca Connell (not officially available until Monday) being shown round Celtic Park.

Julien coming in as one of our most expensive signings.

The club have been working hard it seems. Personally, I was shocked that a 19 year old who managed to play 30 games in the league last season now needs knee surgery.

Add to that Shved, Bayo and Arzani.

    =======

    Don’t think they do.

It is obvious that serious work is being done to improve the team.

That is all we were asking, that no one pre-judged the issue but the usual suspects couldn’t help themselves 2/3 weeks ago, when the window had barely opened.

    The know who they are.

They’ve all been a bit sheepish of late as we beat Norwich to Turnbull and look like securing a real find in Julien, amongst others.

Keeping your powder dry is sometimes the best policy.

By all means if it all goes downhill then we are entitled to appraise the window accordingly.

I think Lenny said Bayo is effectively a new signing and Arzani deserves a chance even tho when I saw him play he tended to unproductive selfishness. Point taken about writing off absent talent, tho CalMac and Ryan show some ‘forgotten assets’ do come good.

Was that Conor Hazard that was in goal for the goal we conceded last night?

I know its just a friendly but done himself no favours at all with that mistake.

A common one is that we need tp `freshen up` the squad.

Do these `fresh` player sign up after a holiday ( or maybe a shower) ?
