Football comes at you quick when losing money

Five years ago, Jack Ross took his Championship St Mirren team to Celtic Park for a Scottish Cup tie and impressed everyone.  Brendan Rodgers thought they were the best domestic team to play there all season.  I thought he was a manager for the future.

Within weeks of leading St Mirren to promotion, he moved to the disaster zone that was Stadium of Light, Sunderland.  Sunderland had just experienced the CEO magic of former Rangers chief, Martin Bain, and had been relegated for the second successive season.  He took them to the League One play-off final but having sold their star striker and with Aiden McGeady carrying an injury, they lost.  He was sacked a few months into the new season, again in a play-off spot.

Of all the bizarre sackings in football, Ross’ losing his job at Hibs, shortly before they were due to play Celtic in last season’s League Cup Final is up there.  Hibs then became the disaster zone club.  He should have been a good fit at Dundee United, but after losing 7 to AZ Alkmaar, 9 to Celtic, and worse, 3 to St Mirren, he was sacked this morning.

It took less than 4 weeks to go from the height of taking a first leg lead against AZ, to the loss of the next five games, scoring once and conceding 24.  Earlier this month, we discussed, “[United’s] smallest loss in the last three years was £2.52m, their highest turnover in that time was £3.9m.  Football comes at you quick with losses like that.  This will not end well.”

  1. KYOGO the Horse finishes in 2nd Pace.

For its Race Course DEBUT it ran really well and gave the heavy odds ON Fav ( 2/11 ON) a bit of a scare until the last Furlong.

Even the Commentator was impressed and said..” A very good run by Kyogo….and Im sure it will be hitting the back of the Net shortly” !

I will DEFO be following KYOGO in future races.

KYOGO the Horse finishes in 2nd place..

It actually finished first but got downgraded to second after the linesman flagged for offside

  4. I don’t think the Parker sacking was only about results. He’s been having not-so-thinly-veiled digs at the board (and players) since pre-season.

He might be right but if you’re going to publicly call out your employers, the results need to be flawless.

  5. Big Ange telling us we are continuing to monitor the market – need folk oput the door and I’m assuming we have a red hot phonefrom the EPL on those who have now become available.

We also have a day longer than the EPL to assess some value.

Could be interesting…will Ronny take Johnston ? Will Stoke take Mccarthy, or even Mowbray at Sunderland ? Will Shaw head back to SW ? Will Ajeti just GTF and stop stinking the place out ? :)

For what it is worth, I am one who sends votes. Sometimes last minute when I see a reminder.

I like to see the results so keep them coming if you don’t mind.

Our home match at home to Celtic in the cinch Premiership has been moved due to coverage on Sky Sports.

Originally scheduled to take place on Saturday 17th September, the match will now take place on Sunday 18th September with a 12 noon kick-off.

  10. CorkCelt,

    That’s the one. 1 hour more, not a day….

Remember last season we got GG, CCV and Jota on the last day…

Here’s hoping we can repeat that :)

  12. If we get one more first team player in, we will be doing well.

I reckon more focus will be on trying to shift Ajeti and maybe loans for Mikey & Shaw.

I feel Ange will hold on to McCarthy, might to a job for him on a Baltic night against a team of hammer throwers,

I have reviewed your results with interest but haven’t necessarily commented. I will in future. I was amazed that McGregor got so many votes last week

Looked much more in line with the game this week.

  14. CorkCelt,

Mooy is already shaping up to be the player McCarthy was hoped to be and has fallen down the pecking order. Be really good to get his wages off the books but I suspect he’ll stay around and be the new Ajeti.

All those guys on the exit list have run out of road at Celtic and won’t feature again.

  15. we should nip in and steal that guy fletcher from dundee united while they are managerless, he is a cracker

  16. Forgot about Scott Robertson, he is on final year of his deal, it’s make or break for him.

Only Ange will know how he is going in training,

If he is loaned out I reckon that is the end for him, just another kid who nearly became a Celtic Legend.

  19. Ange on the ball in today’s presser; The Celtic boss was asked how he feels about the managerial merry-go-round with Malky McKay the only managerial survivor since Ange came to Scotland.

Ange replied: “Robbie Neilson is still at Hearts unless you know something I don’t.”
