Football costs, a Get it up You from Kilmarnock and Aberdeen giving excuses to fail

336

Yesterday’s The Price of Football BBC article was fascinating. Celtic, not surprisingly, have the most expensive season ticket in Scotland at £559. That’s around the midway mark for English Championship clubs, and a lower top price than only Sunderland and West Brom in the English Premier League.

Our cheapest adult season tickets, costing £337, is among a group of Premiership clubs bookended by Hearts  and Kilmarnock (£280), and Hamilton Accies (£350). Inverness are an outlier, with a season ticket costing only £200.

Some of the prices in the English Premier League are astonishing Arsenal tickets cost between £1,014 and £2013 – and that’s for standard seats. Football is expensive everywhere, but in London in particular. The cheapest ticket at Arsenal, Chelsea (£750), Spurs (£765) and West Ham (£617) is matched only by Liverpool (£710).

Manchester City, with their petrodollars and newly enlarged stadium offer £299 tickets. Good value, but the most obvious question from reading the EPL stats is why, with all that TV and sponsorship money reducing match-ticket income to a tiny percentage of the pot, don’t they bring prices down further- like City, Stoke (£294) and Sunderland (£190).

The BBC also surveyed the price of tea, shirts, programmes and pies. One thing I checked for but couldn’t find, is the price all clubs in British and Irish football charge visiting Celtic fans – compared to the standard price they charge all other visiting fans.

Only Kilmarnock have one tariff for all home and away fans, apart from Celtic fans; and another, higher, ticket price for Celtic fans. You may think the people at Kilmarnock would be embarrassed by this. They should be, but I suspect they couldn’t care less. They don’t care what you think of them, and they are taking you for mugs…….  Mugs.  Think about that for a moment.

I like Aberdeen and hope they do well.  Their success is good for Scottish football, but you can see the cracks opening up on what was a very promising season only a few weeks ago.  Yesterday’s statement from the club, asserting that their manager would not be leaving, cut to the heart of the matter.  Speculation is part of football.  Clubs do themselves no favours by getting dragged into official comments over such issues.  Better to brief one or two people off the record, let them quell the chatter.

Instead Aberdeen grandstanded with this fatal mistake, “we would question the motivation of those individuals looking to unsettle the club”.  So it’s unsettling.  There you have it.  The players, and manager, have an excuse ahead of tomorrow night’s game.

Give players an excuse to fail and they will often grab it with both hands.

Paul Larkin’s film, the Asterisk Years, is available to watch or download on Youtube. A fee has to be paid to download it, I’m afraid.

Paul expains how a guy who either worked for Murray or was knowledgable about the Edinburgh Establishment , contacted him about the malevolent attitude among the Edinburgh establishment , fed by Murray, towards Celtic.

Paul was given plenty of information and clues about how Murray immersed himself in Edinburgh establishment for his own benefit. Some of the people mentioned in the film are behind the scenes power makers and breakers .

Some people doubt the information provided in the film is truthful and is conjecture. Paul puts over his case very well .

Fettes College former pupils are prevalent among the Edinburgh establishment figures as well as being members of Murrayfield golf club. Murray attended Fettes for a short period. As an aside a certain Anthony Blair attended that school also.

Its possible the reason Murray’s business practices have not really been placed under any scrutiny because of his link to the Edinburgh etablishment. I may be wrong.

As Paul says despite the efforts to destroy Celtic, we still won.

  2. Joe Fili, when Rangers were liquidated the Scottish establishment of polticians, SFA and the press were in denial and have facilitated the existence of A Rangers not quite the same as before but enough for the hun supporters to turn up

RON BACARDI. Fella I agree the establishment have pulled together to protect what has always been the establishment team. Scottish football is corrupt and some are blind to it and because of that no real change to clean up our game will happen there was a time when all the cheats could have been called out but it did not happen for one reason or another and the time has past.We have in my opinion to accept they will be back in the SPL next season and it will not be long to they are a real challenge to us. H.H.

Bobby, humphy backed Miller’s reaction to Michael connecting with him was priceless. One of the funniest things I have saw on a football pitch. I am led to believe Michael was not that fond of the first club to play at Ibrox.

Talking of Millers, not the view’s Average Joe Miller is in the Asterisk Years film also. Joe is a cracking guy.

Evening bhoys and ghirls. Can someone explain something for me. Sevco according to everyone in the know are close to going bust. Yet today they appoint a chief scout are close to signing eustace and have an Israeli international in on trial. Now I don’t know how much any of that costs but it doesn’t strike me as a newco struggling financially. Am I missing something.

    You are missing absolutely nothing.

Only the delusional who have rabbited on here for years about THEM being dead are dying are missing something.

That is the capability of facing up to the truth when it hits them in the face.

That is that THEY have never died and with the collusion of Scottish Football, Celtic included, THEY will not be allowed to die.

I don’t go to many away games but would never ask the guys that do to boycott. It isn’t fair to put pressure on them asking them not to follow the hoops. Don’t buy anything in the ground etc but I think a boycott would hurt our troops the most…

My old dad fought in ww2 but taught me that the guys who went away to fight for their country should not need to rely on charity.

Agree totally with your last sentence.

Red or White wear a poppy if that is your choice.

My own view is that poppies, should be distributed free with no collection boxes in sight.

As an alternative, and this might test the patriotism of quite a few, is as follows.

A penny in the pound on income tax, the revenue from which to be ring fenced, for taking care of wounded service personnel, the paying of decent war widow’s and dependant’s pensions and allowances.

And anything left be put to paying better service wages.

Bobby, they would be delighted with that.

Seeing as Paul’s blog is about Killie, our developement team beat their Killie counterparts , 3 nil today. Kieran Tierney played very well but did not play in the second half. Jack Breslin scored with Theo Archibald got the other two.

Ronny was at the game and hopefully was impressed with Kieran’s performance.

Not sure if I am a bit late to your SDM party.

His rise if not his fall always reminds me of Schindler’s List.

My thoughts are that he started out as a bit of an insider but worked his way into the Auld Reekie / Speculative Club financial and social establishment.

You have to hand it to him he started at the bottom — getting a kb from from the honest men of AU really is the bottom — and his “rise” to the top was something to behold but to me he is an outsider and he has had to work very hard and make lots of money for others to get accepted.

Not sure the exact reason why he got a kb from AU.

His da was the town coal an so he might have been to close to trade for them.

Also there was the issue that things for SDM senior went belly up big style and that seems to be the reason that SDM never finished his FC education.

As an ideas man SDM has some validity — a bit like Fred the Shred.

As a business man he is / was / forever will be a total sham / totally useless — all about timing, hot air and self publicity.

The fact that he has never been bankrupted and prosecuted after all the MIM froth and collapse is a stain on the nation of Scotland — economically controlled by a certain schools FP club.

I’m in Dubrovnik at the moment. Wife was talking to me at breakfast yesterday and head waiter comes over and asks her if she’s Scottish. “Yes”, she replies.

    “Where are you from?”

    “Glasgow”, we both reply.

    “Celtic or Rangers?”, quoth he.

    “Celtic!”, says we.

Theoriginalsadiesbhoy, Michael never flinched a tackle anytime I saw him play.

It shows how much times have changed that when Michael played for us, we had at least five players in the team who wete Celtic fans as boys for example , the late and great Tommy Burns and John Doyle, George McLuskey, Roy Aitken, Andy Lynch.

In the last twenty years we have had many players from outside of Scotland who have became Celtic supporters.

If current rangers are found to need to cover Green’s and Ahmad’s legal fees then the charges will be dropped.

My guess is Tyre will find against Green, either because the alleged crime happened before the legal cover was in place or any contract offering legal cover for criminality is invalid.

Either way, my guess is current rangers will not be responsible for Chuck’s costs.

There used to be a Serb band called Orthodox Celts. They would play Irish and Celtic songs and had audiences in the thousands. Celtic crests were everywhere.

The Celtic suits warned them not to infringe trademarks.

  28. The report in The Sun was inaccurate and mischievous.

The person named was cleared of all charges and what he revealed, whilst still subject to court embargo is nevertheless true and will resurface and reveal what the SFA and SPFL would much prefer was kept under wraps.

LNS was a contrived sham only made possible through keeping secret what CF exposed. RFC lied to keep the UEFA licence In 2011 and there is more to suggest that both RFC and the SFA did all in their power to present that tax liability in such a way that they could justify both the granting and retention of the licence.

CF shows the truth and at.great personal risk and stress will in time become known as the guy who lifted the lid on the can of worms that our club, by accident of history and geography, are required to work in. Those who criticise Celtic would mute it somewhat if they understood better how hostile that environment is.

RFC and those that think like them should be allowed nowhere near our game. They are deceivers and cheats, but in Scotland it would seem ethics and integrity are forlorn bystanders as mugs line up to jump into the worm can.
