Football in July, the brilliant Dave King

1046

Celtic play their fifth and final preseason friendly tomorrow before Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier in Armenia.  Five games feels light.  Legs will still be tired after each game, the prospect of 90 minutes in extreme heat will not be welcome.

Opponents Alashkert will have played only three preseason games before facing Celtic, each against lower league Russian opponents, so while they will cope better with the heat, their underlying fitness will not be better than Celtic’s.

In theory, Tuesday’s game should be welcomed as an opportunity to increase preparedness before the tougher challenges that lie ahead.  But this is football in July, when normal rules do not apply, as Lincoln Red Imps demonstrated two years ago.

Loved the lack of logic in Dave King’s written response to BBC’s Alasdair Lamont’s question on the Takeover Panel’s Contempt of Court proceedings.  “The [Takeover Panel] know that I live in [South Africa] and that it will require exchange control approval to move the funds to London.  They are just bullying me”.

The Takeover Panel’s rules (which exist for everyone) that an offer has to have proven funds in the UK is not an actual impediment.  If King’s funds were not in the UK, he would be unable to pay for the shares three weeks after the offer is made.

Takeover Panel rules merely bring the date cash is required forward by three weeks.  Still, I am sure this talk of bullying will make the Takeover Panel think twice before crossing King again.

This guy is beyond brilliant.  He is behaving like this openly.  You know how it ends.

  1. So wee Nicola wants tae eradicate sectarianism in Scotland…

    a) Get these Orange bassas off the streets

    b) Herd them intae Bellahouston Park like the animals they are

    c) Let them fondle each other’s flutes from 10am-6pm

    d) Tell them tae GTF back tae whatever holes they crawled oot fae

    Sorted!

  2. Just listened to the interview on Radio Scotland with Canon White. They can’t help themselves. They cut it short in order to go to their sports report. Their excuse: the line was breaking up. It wasn’t. It was obvious Canon White was deeply distressed. Utterly shameful.

  3. Just had a look at Glasgow City Council’s website where they give details of up-coming parades etc.

21 July should be interesting…. One SCUM in Drumchapel, 3 x SCUM in East End (although looks like one is in twice) and… One Republican Parade in GOVAN :-)

They also have a section for Previous Parades, clicked on it and, nothing, every date states No Procession…WTF

  4. Meant to say the reason for looking at the Previous Parades section was to see if the SCUM had permission to ‘Walk’ along London Road back to brigtin/dalmation.

Almost every weekend they go along London Road to the Green, fornicate/defecate etc. then head back along London Road. On Saturday they would have been bussed to Bellahouston as they didn’t ‘Walk’ along London Road in the morning. So, the question is, did they have permission to get dropped off and head along London Road at the same time as Mass is coming out? Looks like they did as the police had a presence in the area.

  5. Comical SMSM coverage and the continual need to have Sevco and Celtic in an old firm, bound together with loan players and Bosman’s delusional manufactured equivalence to real wealth and Celtic’s actual policy to buy personnel, when required.

A transfer market established by observing the rules for success a strict observation that won, and will again this week buying the best that’s available in Scotland.

Having already bought from PSG,.with Scotlands biggest transfer ( again) do we need loan projects unable to establish themselves elsewhere, maybe Charlie Musonda will be a watershed signing for Celtic? Unless of course it’s the next Odsonne Edouard with that vital option to purchase, we don’t need anymore projects.

Sharing a city with the funny people is one thing, but having a soccer transfer market all of our own, is something Celtic supporters have earned, and is to be savoured.

  6. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

I’m sure I’m not the only person who is grateful to CALTONTONGUES and MONAGHAN1900 for letting us know what happened on Saturday

VFR played his part too by mailing certain news outlets about the outrage.

Shamefully, they were all content to ignore it-with the honourable exception of The Sun. And even they were forced to include the disclaimer from POLICE SCOTLAND

That, for me,is the most shameful aspect of this whole sorry saga, the involvement of POLICE SCOTLAND.

Why were these peepul allowed to march there in the first place, why at that time, and who gave permission for it?

Why did police protection/prevention/crowd control dissipate at such an unfortunate time?

Why was the original police statement so heavily downplayed? You’d think Canon White had fallen and skint his knee.

There are a lot of questions in a similar vein, and it’s not only NEGANON who knows the answers to them.

The attack was tacitly condoned, police officers shamefully looked the other way before attempting to brush it under the carpet, and news outlets generally ignored their own responsibilities to the public.

I doubt we’ve heard the last of this, but I also doubt much will change as a result. Well,I still believe in hell even if current teaching doesn’t. And they can ALL rot in it.

  7. My friends in Celtic.

I expect another ” head line” reaction to sectarianism by the Scottish government.

I fear it will not eradicate the root cause ie Marches of hate on our streets.

I expect another form of OB act which will target football fans and not address the minority in Scotland that are currently being subjected to sectarian attacks.

    Be very wary.

    HH.

  8. Tim Malone Will Tell on

Given the terrible OO shenanigans at the weekend, I can feel a “summit” coming on.

Surely a sine-die ban for Neil Lennon is inevitable this time?

  9. weebobbycollins on

Possibly, the government fear that if they are perceived to be pandering to a Catholic minority they will then lose the votes of the hun majority. So, they will give us headlines and not much more, although, I did appreciate Mike Russell’s statement…but then again he’s English and doesn’t fully understand the deep rooted hunnish mentality…Let’s see…I do believe Nicola and others are disgusted by the events but would they risk losing power by coming down heavy on the neanderthals? We know how the OO would react if that were the case. Which religiously tolerant society needs to have police guarding a place of worship? I do believe the publicity will embarrass the SNP and I hope all parties come together and condemn these sectarian displays once and for all…..and let’s get rid of this bastard King who is stoking the hatred of these clowns…

  10. weebobbycollins on

Btw…the good Protestants, and there are many, are ashamed of these peepil, so, this is not strictly Prods v Tims…this is Hunnish morons v Catholics…
