Celtic play their fifth and final preseason friendly tomorrow before Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier in Armenia. Five games feels light. Legs will still be tired after each game, the prospect of 90 minutes in extreme heat will not be welcome.
Opponents Alashkert will have played only three preseason games before facing Celtic, each against lower league Russian opponents, so while they will cope better with the heat, their underlying fitness will not be better than Celtic’s.
In theory, Tuesday’s game should be welcomed as an opportunity to increase preparedness before the tougher challenges that lie ahead. But this is football in July, when normal rules do not apply, as Lincoln Red Imps demonstrated two years ago.
Loved the lack of logic in Dave King’s written response to BBC’s Alasdair Lamont’s question on the Takeover Panel’s Contempt of Court proceedings. “The [Takeover Panel] know that I live in [South Africa] and that it will require exchange control approval to move the funds to London. They are just bullying me”.
The Takeover Panel’s rules (which exist for everyone) that an offer has to have proven funds in the UK is not an actual impediment. If King’s funds were not in the UK, he would be unable to pay for the shares three weeks after the offer is made.
Takeover Panel rules merely bring the date cash is required forward by three weeks. Still, I am sure this talk of bullying will make the Takeover Panel think twice before crossing King again.

I got baned from the SFM at the start cos I told them that nothing would happen to them, nothing has in reality, they managed to dump well over £100 mill of debt with virtually no consequences, they are still the same old huns, they still have those who matter onside, they are where they are because of their own supremisist attitude, had they swallowed a bit of humble pie and done things right….etc, etc, thankfully they didn’t cos it will be the death of them a second time imo.
As for glibby, he knows that the TOP has no hold over him, he gives not a jot about his fellow directors and I honestly can’t see the TOP going after them in any case, from day one, even before day one I have said the same thing, I have never wavered one iota from it, they know the cabal has their back covered as much as they can do.

Has the WC final ever been contested between 2 teams that have already met in the group stages?
*1954 Hungary thumped West Germany 8-3 in the sections, strange set up as although 4 teams in the group only 2 games were played so Hungary never played Turkey and although they had a better goal average than WG lost to them in a play off. The Magyars scored 17 goals in 2 games.
Scotland finished bottom of their group losing 0-7 and 0-1 to Uruguay and Austria respectively. There were no deidco players in the 13 man squad as they were allowed to withdraw there’s on account of a lucrative tour of North America. Nothing changes.
Hungary ousted Brazil 4-2 in the infamous “Battle of Berne” in the quarters and Uruguay by the same score in the semis. They then lost 2-3 to WG in the final after going 2 up after only 8 minutes.
Austria finished in 3rd place beating Uruguay 3-1. So the 2 countries that lost WWII in 1945 ended up in 1st and 3rd place in the WC 9 years later.
