Football club politics is hard. You can adopt a popular position – for example, restricting Celtic fans to 700 tickets at Ibrox, but try accounting for bad actors throwing bottles, or the public safety hazard of disrupting egress routes build up over a century.
You successfully stop 7,000 Celtic fans from having a party, no more Leigh Griffiths tying scarves to your posts, but having conceded to fans’ demands, how do you unwind your position when circumstances move on?
The source cause behind Celtic ultimately deciding there would be no visiting fans when Newco visit on 8 April happened some years ago, when Newco designated part of the Broomloan Rd side of the ground, used for a century by away fans, for their ultras group. The ultras had to be moved to accommodate Celtic fans, which was always going to rub them up the wrong way.
Celtic were correct, the recent scenario where 700 fans were kettled into a stadium at huge public cost (policing outside of grounds is not paid for by the clubs), then had all sorts thrown at them for two hours, was untenable. Go back to 7,000 fans, with all that means for moving ultras and Celtic parties, or have home fans only.
It would take an enormously strong Newco board to revert to 7,000 visiting fans, something they have never had and are very unlikely to have any time (generation) soon. Gone are the days when a David Murray-type would tell them what they needed to know at Ibrox, and they would lap it up/pay their bond to confirm a right to buy a season ticket, without complaint.
The only scenario that I see changing things is when Newco season ticket sales drop so far they can free-up space in another stand and locate their ultras there, perhaps with the promise of safe standing, as a sprinkling of sugar on the medicine. So maybe not that long.

Re Mikey Johnston, an aside …
A player who cannot even make it into the Celtic training group, let alone the squad or the team ….
… excelled last night on an international platform.
What does that say about the raising of standards under Ange ?
Amazes me the way some fans go on about Mikey Johnston.Dont really want to say too much about the boy.He is skillfully, quick, the two things most players yearn for,BUT,and it’s always a but with Mikey.Has let down managers and fans too many times.Wish the boy every success with Ireland, and whichever team he ends up at,it won’t be Celtic, but a future is out there.

It’s a tough job for the moderator on here.
You only need to spend 2 minutes on Follow Follow, or even other Celtic sites, to see how easily these forums can drop into abuse ridden chaos.
It may be quit just now but it appears much more respectful in recent weeks and hopefully it can build back in time.

Credit to the Leith Club. I kinda wish I had T volunteered this weekend to go and do family things now. Liverpool sounds like a lot of fun.
Have the home team sold much of their allocation ?
Guys,
The Luton CSC is running 2 full busses.
I would imagine there will be many clubs like Leith and Luton.
HH to them.
Were Celtic not reporting that they had sold 4,000 tickets for the Legends game? or was I dreaming again?. 1st day of Ramadan here but pubs will open 2moro (I hope)

International football suits skilful or fast players who don’t shine that much in the better drilled and tougher world of top level club football. Also applies to slow centre halfs
Scotland got gubbed in Dublin but guys nowhere near a high level in England
Scotland have a few of those as well; Patterson, Gilmour
Johnston may well become a hero for Ireland but drop a level in his club career. I’d love him to make it at Celtic and next season will decide it i think. If Abada does leave, he may get his chance.
Pretty sure he has a relation on here, i bet the family are delighted at his debut
Coneybhoy
it is myself who is related to Mikey- my moniker gives away the clue as to his credentials to play for Ireland. I was at the game last night and can confirm that the whole family are extremely proud of him. He has a way to go to gain the confidence of the Celtic support however if he can stay injury free i am sure he will get the opportunity to impress and hopefully will do.

Which posters have been cancelled or alienated?
Can you name them please?
Those cancelled or alienated.i mean
Make it real news, not lazy journalism.
You,yourself are quite good at the conspiracy and hopeful dirge post, for example jason leitch a few days ago,15 minute towns.you bring lots of that(no harm in that, give a link tho) but to those not up with latest theory it reads as continual lazy news/theories of medicine/types of society.
The mods does a tough unwanted job.
I dont have any contact with him.
Good luck to him.
Wouldnt be my bag, some of the posts i have only highlight how right he was in banning
The typing column of some seriously racist and detatched people claiming to be Celtic fans.

Coneybhoy makes a sound point about making judgements on the basis of International football and others have made telling points about the deficiencies in previous performances for Celtic by Mikey.
I believe the truth will lie somewhere between. Ange did not write off Mikey Johnston- he gave him a final chance because there is no doubt that Mikey has skill that few players possess. Playing at lower age levels and the reserves, there were few defenders capable of stopping what worked for Mikey but, when he moved up a level, he did not work out quickly enough where and when to use his trickery and where and when it was better to pass.
Ange could have seen this and written him off but, instead, rather than let a skilful player who has the speed the modern game requires go for some other club to benefit, he gave him a final chance. Get out of your comfort zone and go and play football in an environment just as testing as the SPFL, the Primeira Liga in Portugal. Mikey has grabbed his chance featuring regularly and helping his team into a top 5 or 6 slot. He was also offered a chance last night by Stephen Kenny and was not content to be just the new boy who takes the ball and gives it to senior players. He wasn’t content to just have a tidy debut; he grabbed the game b the scruff and imposed himself on it.
We can be sour and dispiriting saying- it was only Latvia or the defenders were tired- but few others imposed themselves like he did.
We should not paint ourselves into corners in order to defend our previous scepticism about Mikey’s footballing judgement, his finishing or his injury proneness. He has ticked off Esch one of those concerns in his application to his trade in Portugal and last night.
He deserves and has earned a final chance at Celtic. We have 4 winger contenders just now. Jota is on another level to any of our recent wingers- better than Forrest or Roberts or Mikey. Maeda is a great contributor to Angeball and has a more industrial set of skills than Mikey. Abada is quick and scores goals (and goals will always trump skills in a coach’s outlook). But, one or more of those 3 may go when the predator clubs turn their eyes on us. Ange and our scouts will then either sign a promising youngster from abroad, promote a promising young player like Rocco Vata, or use the remaining wingers, Haksabanovic, Johnston and one or more of our existing starters to go again.
Mikey has a chance – no more than that- and no less than that. Last night’s display and his consistency in Portugal encourages me that he is not gonna die wondering. He will make it at Celtic or he will move on and make himself elsewhere. I would rejoice if he proves many of us us wrong. I would be delighted to swallow my reservations and it would gladden me to admit I got another one wrong.

Great stuff, that wee dribble near the end is what gets fans on their feet (or crouching if in standing section? 😎)

` there is no doubt that Mikey has skill that few players possess.`
That, alone, is the reason Celtic, IMO, must persevere with Mikey J.
There is something special in that young man`s abilities and I would think there is none better than Ange to make the most of that.

Matybe worth a wee watch for an opinion on Mikey. I haven`t watched all of it as I have to go out but seemed quite balanced:

From BBC Scotland Sports gossip
A spokesman from the SFA was not available to confirm that Celtic’s penalty against Hibernian on Saturday was in fact the 50th, with the other 49 being awarded to The Rangers*
