Football’s better without manipulation

782

I’ve no fondness for Stuart McColl but I’m disappointed the wheels have fallen off Motherwell’s bogey this season.  Delivering two consecutive second place finishes in a league populated with mostly better finances teams was exceptional.  Over the last three years they have lost players instead of paying money they couldn’t afford, otherwise they would almost certainly be challenging at the top of the table.

I like Gordon Strachan.  One of the things I like about him is he is almost impossible to get on-message.  Talk about manipulating football in order to get the ‘right’ teams in the top division is ludicrous, Gordon knows this, or he wouldn’t have used a word like “manipulate”.  On a substantive note, I think he’s wrong on this point.

The game changed when Rangers were liquidated, and it changed again when Hearts and Hibs were relegated.  Fewer people buy tickets as there is not genuine competition for the league title, but some things we can do without.

Scottish football survived without the ticket money these clubs brought them, and the country’s streets, pubs and A&E departments have benefited from not having to cope with the sheer hassle we used to put up with.

I’ve enjoyed our four lower tier-only games this season, they were atmospheric and entertaining.  If this was our future, I’d bite your hand off for it before I’d want to go back to the old ways.

Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and the rest are defined on their own merits, and many of us are enjoying our football.

    I’m not agreeing with conspiracy theorists but what’s been (and has yet to be) uncovered over the last 3 years is staggering. I can fully understand folk not trusting a word or action that comes from the SFA.

  2. starry, Calm down ol’ pal. Why on earth would you chuck it. We are about to win 4 in a row, still in all 4 Competitions. Forget about Nimmo & Sevco, we are a Club born from Famine & Oppression. We thrive on fighting & overcoming injustice, its what makes us what we are. Just keep the Faith & thank God you were born a Celt. UTLR

    The paranoia on here is risible. Honestly, does anyone seriously believed if it was a fix they would have been drawn at home to a top flight team?

    The level of stupidity on CQN recently is embarrassing and fast approaching untenable.

  5. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a league cup game that wasn’t free on the ticket. Mainly due to the pointlessness of the competition and family commitments. I shan’t be changing that now.

  6. What really sticks in my craw big time is why can’t the hunscum and their meeja lapdogs for once show a bit humility. Sickening.

    Tickets will be scarce so hopefully its mainly the bhoys who go and see us play partick midweek and hamilton a few days later.. The ones that want to go anyway.

    Iv accepted a long time ago that they will be back in some capacity and to be honest even if they are not in top division they will still have their refs there plus the huns in suits who control the league.

    All i can hope for is we dominate and embarress them for a long long time.

    Th stop five teams in the league all drawn away from home, now what would be the odds on that, it’s got to the stage now where the game is so bent you can’t trust anything in it any more, all for the benefit of the biggest cheats in world football…

    Ridiculous.You are telling us that Darren was party to a fraud?.To somehow help the hun?.

    Thats the draw,fair and square.If you think the huns have got an easy tie,you have not been watching football.Hibs gubbed them 3-1 at Ibrox.I would rate this Killie team better than Hibs.Unless of course Eremenko gets the treatment again.No easy ties for this mob.They are crap.

  11. Totally agree proudbhoy, I don’t give a monkey’s about the SFA or Sevco. There is a huge Orange/Loyalist section of Scottish Society, they are always going to be represented by a Football team. As long as we ply our trade in Scotland, we have to deal with the fact that we are going to come up against them. There is no point in the world bitching about it, that will change nothing.

  12. BMCUW, Come on, the draw was not rigged, You know it, I know it, these things happen. There are a load of Clubs out there have a lot more to complain about then us.

  13. The people who think the draw was fix, what draw wouldn’t have been a fix in your eyes ?

    Maybe Aberdeen v Huns

    Celtic v Albion rovers

    It might well be,but it happens.If the conspiracy theorists on here are correct,how come the huns did not draw Forres or Elgin,some teuchter mob.

  17. Two difficult cup ties ahead against lower league opposition (our Achilles heel in recent seasons) . If RD wins both then all the hoo-haa, brouhaha, and hullabaloo from the start of the season may well be forgotten.

    “So bring on the lower league opposition,

    Bring on the mankies by the score (literally)”

    Just before I go out, I would like to make an observation. I am as disgusted as anyone that we have been drawn against RIFC/Sevco in the League Cup Semi Final. Most people on here are railing against the smsm and all things Sevco as well as bemoaning that we will be assailed for the next three months by matters relating to this game. Yet, all I have read on here since Saturday evening is discussion about this game. You are doing the smsm’s job for them. They’re telling everybody about how exciting it is going to be, reviving the OF references and generally winding you all up.

    DON’T BE PARTY TO IT!

    After this post, I will refuse to discuss it. I will treat it as low key. I won’t let any Hun wind me up about it. If asked about it my reply will be, “That game’s a long way off. Celtic have some big league games and Europa League games to worry about before then.”

    This game will take place. If there is a boycott by sections of Celtic fans, Hampden will still be half full with Celtic fans who are not boycotting because they don’t want to throw the players to the wolves. World opinion will not concern itself with the rights and wrongs of Sevco or this game taking place.

    Ignore it until we have to play it.

    That’s all I’ve got to say on this matter. Aff oot!

    Enjoyed having an hour without that game next year being mentioned.

  23. Honestly can’t believe we are having this argument. Can anyone explain how it could be done. 14 hot balls & 18 cold balls. Darren the chief fixer. FFS Come on. Yes the odds against it are almost beyond calculating but nobody except the minnows benefit. Even the minnows are probably not too happy either, they know they can’t win the Cup and for the most part are looking for a money spinning tie.

    You really haven’t been paying attention,have you?

  28. On the whole furore (add that to hoo-haa, brouhaha and hullabaloo) regarding the Sevco Semi, the situation is very simple…

    – Some people will be excited about it (they are allowed to be);

    – Some people will be none too happy about it (they are allowed to be);

    – The SMSM will behave like snakes and wind-up merchants in the run up (sadly, they are allowed to);

    – Some people will be arrested as a result of the 3 points above.

    And for me, that last point is the reason why I’m not really looking forward to it. However, the rules say we must play the game, no?
