Football’s better without manipulation

782

I’ve no fondness for Stuart McColl but I’m disappointed the wheels have fallen off Motherwell’s bogey this season.  Delivering two consecutive second place finishes in a league populated with mostly better finances teams was exceptional.  Over the last three years they have lost players instead of paying money they couldn’t afford, otherwise they would almost certainly be challenging at the top of the table.

I like Gordon Strachan.  One of the things I like about him is he is almost impossible to get on-message.  Talk about manipulating football in order to get the ‘right’ teams in the top division is ludicrous, Gordon knows this, or he wouldn’t have used a word like “manipulate”.  On a substantive note, I think he’s wrong on this point.

The game changed when Rangers were liquidated, and it changed again when Hearts and Hibs were relegated.  Fewer people buy tickets as there is not genuine competition for the league title, but some things we can do without.

Scottish football survived without the ticket money these clubs brought them, and the country’s streets, pubs and A&E departments have benefited from not having to cope with the sheer hassle we used to put up with.

I’ve enjoyed our four lower tier-only games this season, they were atmospheric and entertaining.  If this was our future, I’d bite your hand off for it before I’d want to go back to the old ways.

Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and the rest are defined on their own merits, and many of us are enjoying our football.

    WELL DONE CELTIC!

  3. Is he in? For 6 months. Magic.

Defensive midfielder it says, what else? Of course he is (as if we would sign a midfield playmaker).

Diarra? Excellent. Bit of class in midfield might just make all the difference.

Might also help us in terms of keeping/signing the likes of VVD and John G.

    Bring it on!

Awesome mate, The club have to be brave.

The SFA should have made it clear at the very beginning.

Great news about Diarra might finish the MD puzzle.

Normally agree with your posts but not in this instance.

What if you had been put in jail for a crime that you had not committed. You know in your heart that you are innocent but the guilty go free. Is that enough?

I repeat what I said yesterday, to paraphrase ” all that it takes for evil to triumph is for good men( and whummin) to do nothing.”

For Celtic to do nothing is to be complicit in the lie that is being peddled by those who have an agenda that Rangers did not die and that the tribute act are in fact the same club. Their 276 creditors were not paid and as such the process of liquidation commenced in June 2012 (thanks Jobo).

It does matter and the match against the new team is still 3 months away but the longer that Celtic delay a comment on their situation the more difficult it will be to do so.

Celtic supporters should not be buying into their narrative.

  9. Evening Times excusing their last drubbing by us.

“The last Old Firm meeting came in April 2012 when Celtic won 3-0. At the time Rangers were battling financial collapse.”

And they will be facing financial collapse again in January.

Diarra could be a good signing especially if we can go further in Europe.

    Thanks for the reply.

Agree that the issue is more complex than my own dismissal. At some point a playground bully needs to be stood up to, a simplistic way of describing the authorities, spivs and media in this case.

I live on the west coast of the USA and being out of the bubble that is SW Scotland, I have the luxury of sticking my head in the sand as and when it suits me. Can’t imagine the sound of the meeja sharpening their knives at home just now with all the goings on.

  12. Hello from a very mild and sunny earlier today Malta.

This is my first comment regarding the LC draw against deidco.

I noticed some posts last night regarding banners being made for game by possibly GB.

Will these banners be allowed to be taken into Hampdump. And if officials think they are being derogatory to Scotlands newest team will they be confiscated.Thoughts anyone.HH

  13. Any of you read McCalls leaving statement to Motherwell?

He mentions beating Celtic 4 times as one of his highlights.

    No mention of beating Rangers.

Then again did he ever beat them?

  14. Did Ronny not say a few days ago that they had checked on Diarra but were not progressing it any further.

HH. As said we all have different views on the matter, broad church are we and all that. Normally I’m in complete accord with your posts, cut from same cloth etc that’s why I responded.

Having said that I’m not going to fall out with other Tim’s on this, as I know in the final analysis we all want the best for the Tic. I really do feel quite strongly about their attempts ,along with their friends in high places,to sweep their years of cheating and duplicity under the proverbial carpet. I also do not want my team complicit in this. The truth needs to out.
