For the sake of Celtic, time to look each other in the eye

382

Yesterday’s statement by Celtic was clear and unambiguous.  The club are aware of reports of ill-treatment of supporters by police and have an established process in place to handle concerns, directed through the umbrella Fans Against Criminalisation Group (incorporating Association, GB, Affiliation, Irish Association and Trust).  Two complaints have been received and actioned since December, which sounds like we have an under-reporting issue.

I am very pleased they have committed to form a Complaints Panel, with representatives from the support and the club.  We are the one family so there is no need for the club to manage complaints, the support is more than qualified on this matter.  This is important as it gives supporters oversight and ensures the club cannot act behind supporters’ backs on such an important issue, which should ensure that going forward matters are dealt with properly.

This is the response I wanted from Celtic.

Celtic also suggest accusations they have targeted supporters are “without foundation”, asking “What would be the Club’s motivation for being involved in activity which targets or victimises supporters? It is simply not true. It does not make sense.”  It makes no sense, of course.

Statements from the Green Brigade on Saturday, and the Affiliation committee (who believe they were referred to in the Green Brigade’s statement) today, raise some real concerns.

If, as the Affiliation suggest, “In recent weeks have seen finger pointing, whispers, rumours and lies aimed at organisations and individuals within them from sections of our own support”, we have a poison in our midst.

These matters are important enough (to me, anyway) for all parties to require clarification.  Get whoever said what to whom about whoever in a room together.  You will soon find out who has the cojones to look everyone else in the eye, and you will find out who is damaging your football club.

Lest we forget, these matters are a result of First Fantasist Alex Salmond’s Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Bill.  The consequences of which were predicted by Fans Against Criminalisation Group, as well as Celtic, who in their written submission to the Justice Committee (sic) said as much:

“The legislation potentially discriminates against the football supporter by reason of that person being a football supporter. It criminalises him or her for being a football supporter and not only because of the nature of his or her behaviour. In other words, exactly the same behaviour could be deemed illegal if performed by a football supporter, while not constituting an offence by anyone not participating in a football environment.

“An offence of “offensive behaviour“ and the test of the reasonable person, are introduced in section 1(2) (e). This test is extremely wide and creates considerable uncertainty over what is or is not acceptable.

“If this offence is to be introduced notwithstanding our comments above, clear guidelines should be published by the Lord Advocate to explain what sorts of conduct are considered as offensive or unacceptable. The potential for confusion in the absence of clear and consistent guidelines is potentially limitless and runs the risk of the law becoming unenforceable, or brought into disrepute.”

The Scottish Government passed sloppy legislation and put extraordinary funds into a policing project which only serves to make them look clueless.

Its no easy..and I think no right answer…

    Effort, ability, attitude…all important.

Interesting that boys own the team..that is broadly my view. My problem is that 8 of the 12 man squad are giving it everything. A few of them been through the Pro youth gig and rejected/been rejected all been considered so they want to develop and win, they want to compete with other top clubs because they know they can. I’m retaining all the boys but places in team are by competition. therefore boys who on the edge get cut adrift if they dont improve. the club has A,B & C teams…tricky moving young guys (11yrs) between these teams..social bonds, developing egos all to be considered, by same token space required for boys who have earned their place.

I just hate it…really looking for comments to salve my conscience!

I reckon Lord Reid and Paul Mc Bride QC were script writers directors and producers of that particular act. They mistakenly thought those days were behind us but as is now very apparent they are not. They made the same mistake as the RTC guy and HMRC.

They thought it would tackle TFS and the BJK chant.

Celtics full cooperation with the summit has left them torpedoed under the waterline.

Celtics were used as a vehicle by both gentlemen to further their own situations.

There is no going back now.

‘Ernie Lynch in what respect am I wrong?’

The high water mark for the Tories in Scotland came after the University constituencies were abolished.

    Therefore your statement

‘So when you look at how “Tory” Scotland was, remember that some of the blighters voted twice.’

was wrong. It was misleading. The Tories were once dominant in Scotland and it was nothing to do with anyone having two votes.

And there’s still a huge number of people who support Tory policies, even if they don’t vote Tory.

The type of people Salmond was speaking for when he said ‘We didn’t mind the economic side so much’ about Thatcher.

I think Jim Mather the SNP cabinet minister summed up the position well when he said that ‘any notion that an independent Scotland will be a left wing country is delusional nonsense.’

The fact you’ve got three teams at that age group let’s you find the right level for each player. The growth curve is about to completely ruin your team by the way, with some kids who were top players finding they are being left behind physically, and others who were less talented getting the benefit of an early adolescent growth spurt.

I’m finding that they are now levelling out, but it’s taken 4 years, and there’s a bit left to go. Gen up, kids who were good at 9 and 10 lost their way at 23 and 13, and are only now reestablishing themselves as amongst the better players.

Use the A,B,C teams as a development pathway, sell it as such to the kids and parents, with players moving teams as suits their competitive level, rather than the talent hierarchy that it is inclined to be seen as.

Provided kids move between teams regularly, you’re doing the right thing.

  18. Some FF lunacy. Oh, and the author of the ‘article’ appears to have supplied the title:

Great article- Why Rangers won and Celtic lost.

It may seem somewhat obvious to state that season 2012-13 was the turning point in Scottish football. The disgraceful and spiteful treatment of Rangers f.c. was an eye opener to many both within and without the game.

Dark and sinister forces colluded to punish a club whose only crime was that it contrived to spend more money than it had. Hardly a heinous crime!

There is hardly a household in the UK where the same phenomenon has not taken place. How many families , businesses, companies , countries have not had the same experience? Personal debt haunts millions of people across the western world.

Moreover, in the world of football, Rangers debt was never excessive. In the EPL there are clubs a fraction of the size of Rangers who nurse debts which imperil their very existence. When one wanders into the tortured and at times, corrupt world of La Liga we see ‘giant’ teams effectively chained to interminable mountains of indebtedness. And yet, this is allowed.

Celtic football club is held up as paragon of virtue, a club which others should aspire to copy. Why is that I ask myself? Celtic seemingly are good with numbers, indeed they are. Miraculous even, one might say. Not since Jesus did the trick with the fish and loaves, have we seen such a sleight of hand.

Celtic’s attendance against Dundee United was officially cited as being in the mid forty thousands, this is simply not true. Any fair mind, objective observer would have to say that even thirty thousand was optimistic.

The reality is attendances this season show quite clearly, that Rangers are quite literally a much bigger club than Celtic. Despite being given a free hand to win the SPL, Celtic’s attendances have plummeted. They are a club in denial, a club with a past and no future.

Their sojourn in Europe has merely served to paper over the cracks. Any monies made from Europe this season will simply be used to cover next season’s empty seats and season tickets. A quick exit from European football will merely accelerate their demise. As decay sets in, the more talented players will flee Celtic, merely adding to the sense of crisis.

Rangers have reached the bottom and can now only go one way. Rangers has purged itself of its demons and has paid its price. Penance has led to redemption, Rangers emerge leaner, fitter and ready for the fray. In accepting the punishment of the pygmies, Rangers as an institution rediscovered its soul. For that alone, the pain was worth it.”

    ———

    “Fantastic article mate.

The manky mhob are not even close to us when it comes to finances. We are also a far better run business than they can ever hope to be.”

    Grief is a terrible thing.

But in this case, absolutely hilarious.

  26. JJ many Rangers fans claim a theoretical semi regarding the Marseille episode. Like Italian teams, they’re apopleptic when they come across someone balatantly more corrupt than themselves.

The argument is that since Marseille cheated their way to the French League title they shouldn’t have been in the Champions League to thwart Rangers.

There’s just one wee flaw in that argument.

  27. Jungle Jim- The latter stages of the 92-93 completion was on a group basis 2 groups of 4, the 2 winners meeting in the final. Somehow one of the group games v Marseille is now folklore as a semi final.

Marseille won the final 1-0 v Milan.

  28. Is it because Rangers no longer exist that we are still talking about anything other than tonight`s game which kicks off in a couple of hours?
