Forget histrionics and win 15-in-a-row

443

The off-field histrionics that a visit to Tynecastle invariably brings is of little interest today.  For now, don’t really care about the history of this fixture or the disposition of the natives.  Such matters pale into insignificance beside the three points on offer to the team who have won 14 consecutive games in domestic football, a run that extends back to October.

Neil Lennon and his players will let others worry about life’s dramas, the likely influence of Hearts fifth winding-up order, served this week, the “political situation” that has a bearing on Hearts team selection, or even the 2-0 defeat at the same venue four months ago.  They will instead focus on how to deliver a disciplined performance against a team who have recorded unlikely highs and lows this season.

10-man Hearts put five goals past St Mirren last month but were lucky to leave Tynecastle with a draw against 10-man St Johnstone at the weekend after Cillian Sheridan ran them ragged.  They are neck-and-neck with St Johnstone in the league, both of whom have slipped six points behind Motherwell in the chase for what may yet become a Champions League spot.

The biggest decision for Neil Lennon may be in defence.  Celtic have lost only two league goals in their last nine outings (they lost 12 in the previous nine), which has been crucial in their push to the top of the league.  This has seen opportunities for now-fit Kelvin Wilson limited.  Kelvin played a full 90 minutes in the Scottish Cup against Inverness on Saturday and will give the manager a decision to make.

Happy Birthday to Martin42, 70 years of refusing to take life too seriously.  A win tonight would give us a better birthday reference point than the cold and miserable night at Celtic Park 12 years ago.

I haven’t been around for a while. Some local difficulties and indeed am in hospital as I do this. I just had to share this little gem that my nephew sent me and hope that he didn’t pick it from CQN.

Tom, what do you mean by that being your understanding. Educated guess? That’s not how it works mate. Quick announcement when it’s for the defendant, delayed to write up the judgement when it’s the pursuer? That would be nice but it’s miles from the truth I’m afraid.

A Tribunal can only consider points of law. It’s the writing up and tripple checking the legal arguments that takes all the time as both sides have a right to appeal.

Follow my 3-step plan to successmanship:

    * Good business is where you find it

    * Don’t forget to check the stalls before you mock the boss to a colleague in the executive toilets

    * Don’t volunteer to point a gun at ED-209 in the boardroom (thumbsup)

  22. philvisreturns – now that my friend has made me smile – the news about Black not the roll and scotch pie!!

  23. Hearts 3 best players out tonight. Templeton, injured, Black, suspended and Kello, romanoved. Right attitude by us = comfortable win

  24. Looking at Bert Kassies’ 2012-13 UEFA qualification criteria, the SPL winners enter the Champions League at “CHQ3” of 4 (which relates to the “Champions Route”) and the SPL runners-up enter “NCQ3” of 4 (“Non-Champions Route”).

The Champions Route involves the league champions of the lower ranked countries, with opposition likely to be of the quality of the likes of Maribor, Malmo and Kaunas. The Non-Champions Route involves the teams just off the top of the higher ranked European leagues, with the likes of Chelsea, Valencia, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Porto all currently well in the frame as potential opponents before even reaching the group stage!

It is imperative that Celtic do not slip up from their current position of strength in the SPL. If we only win one trophy this season it absolutely must be the SPL title. I am sure Motherwell will be far happier to draw Chelsea in a CL qualifier than we will!

Celtic hold the current SPL records for consecutive wins (25) and consecutive unbeaten games (32), both achieved in 2003/04. The 2011-12 team is currently at 12 wins and 15 undefeated with 14 SPL games remaining, so they can, by winning all their remaining SPL games, write their own little piece of history.

    Let’s do it!
