MARVIN COMPPER is poised to relaunch his Celtic career in Austria next week.
The forgotten Hoops defender, who didn’t even complete one game following his £1.2million switch from RB Leipzig in January, will feature in the three-match tour as Brendan Rodgers prepares his players for their Champions League opener against Alashkert on July 10.
Compper’s progress at the champions was hindered when he sustained an injury during the winter break training camp in Dubai.
The one-time German international made his debut in the 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Morton at Parkhead on March 3. He was replaced by Callum McGregor with seven minutes to go – and wasn’t seen in action again.
Compper, who has just turned 33, will get his opportunity with Belgium’s Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, of Sweden, and Costa Rica’s Christian Gamboa on duty at the World Cup Finals in Russia.
Gaffer Rodgers is short of defensive cover with the first competitive game of the season just over a fortnight away and the German veteran will get a chance to show he can contribute.
