FORMER HOOPS TARGET IN LOAN MOVE

FORMER Celtic target Martin Odegaard has joined Dutch outfit Heerenveen from Real Madrid on an 18-month loan.
The Norwegian international, who was pursued by ex-boss Ronny Deila, has failed to make a breakthrough at the Bernabeu since becoming the club’s youngest player at the age of 16 years and 157 days in 2015.

Odegaard had made his Norway debut before turning 16 in late 2014 before joining the Spanish giants from Deila’s former team Stromsgodset.

But since then, he has been restricted to playing for the second string – Castilla – with his sole first-team appearance this season coming in the Copa del Rey against Cultural Leonesa.

Odegaard was linked with loan moves to a number of clubs, including French side Rennes who pulled out of a proposed move last week.

He joins a Heerenveen side sitting fourth in the Eredivisie table, 13 points behind leaders Feyenoord.
