WILFRIED NANCY has revealed he tried to lure Benjamin Nygren to the MLS.
The Frenchman watched the Swede net a double in Celtic’s 4-2 win over Livingston in West Lothian yesterday and said: “I am happy for Benji to score, good for him.
“When I was in Columbus, I tried to sign him. I know him, I know what he can do and think he has big potential.
“He has not reached that yet. He’s not a dribbler, but he likes to make runs for his team-mates.
“He knows he has to be stronger and believe a little more in himself, but I like what I have seen so far.
“I will challenge him.”

AT THE DOUBLE…Benjamin Nygren pounces to make it 1-1 against Livingston and (below) celebrates with Kieran Tierney after his spectacular curler to make it 3-2 for the champions.

Nygren added: “The manager has been good for me. He’s a great manager and we will keep working hard for him. I heard he tried to sign me – but I came here instead!”
Nancy is also keeping a close eye on the transfer window which opens on Friday with Japanese defender Hayato Inamura poised to agree a loan switch to J-League outfit Tokyo FC.
The Hoops gaffer, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “The window is the opportunity for each team to improve.
“So, we will see what we’re going to do, if we’re going to take players and what type of player we’re going to take.
“Step by step, you’re going to get the answer.”
Nancy will get more answers about the quality of his squad when he takes his players to Fir Park on Tuesday evening to face Motherwell in the final game of 2025.
A late goal from Daizen Maeda gave the champions the points in a dramatic 3-2 victory at Parkhead on October 5, which, ironically, was Brendan Rodgers’ last Premiership success as Celtic manager.
