Formidable CCV

176

With the season’s finish line just a few weeks away, thoughts inevitably turn to squad changes in the months ahead, in particular, who will be subject to a disruptive bid.  No matter how long he stays at Celtic, you and I will always worry about keeping hold of Cameron Carter-Vickers.  This century, only Virgil van Dijk is comparable in central defensive ability.

Cameron (27) will pick  up his fourth league winners medal and hopes to add a third Scottish Cup winners medal to add to the same tally of League Cup golds.  He is lightning quick and formidable in the challenge.  For the second time in three years, he got a big game out of the way near the end of the season, before dropping out of the squad for treatment.  His availability has to be managed.

That’s not to say he would not find a place in an ELP squad, I am sure he would, but if, as I expect, we manage to hold onto the player for another few seasons, it will be because of this fitness overhead.  Otherwise, he would be one of three top players I would be worried about this summer.

  1. The very idea that CCV is second only to Virgil ‘this century’ is fanciful to an extreme degree. Boyd, Stubbs, Mjallby, Valgaaren, Baldy, Wilson, Wanyama, et al were all better centre backs. Not to say he is not a half decent player, certainly compared to most of the recent recruits, and he has his strengths, but never as claimed by Paul67. That said if he was to be paired with a more dominant partner who could win the ball in the air eg, he could be a far more effective player given his reading of the game and his forward passing. We need to add to his strengths not over rely on them, that should be a top priority from this point on.

I would take CCV over Boyd, Stubbs, Mjallby, Valgaaren, Baldy, Wilson or Wanyama (who was a midfielder and not a defender) every day of the week and twice on a Sunday, with the possible exception of Mjalllby.

He’s not the quickest but his awareness , strength and positioning , and ability to resist the temptation to dive in is impressive.

  3. the long wait is over

In his first game for Celtic, against St Johnstone he played, full back, midfield, and centre back. We lost 1-0 at home. Would agree that Victor was essentially a midfielder, but he could and did play centre back. We have signed some very good midfield and forward players in recent years, time we took the centre back position just as seriously…

Wilson, is that Mark Wilson you’re referring to?

    Bombscare Baldy?

    Wanyama the midfielder?

Why don’t you compare him to Larsson whilst you’re at it. 🤡🤡

  5. Stephenbhoyboy on

Mjallby was a class player, the rest were no better than ccv who has been a great signing and player for us. We would get the best out of ccv if we could get him a quick ball playing centreback who can dominate the box at set plays and a proper defencive centremid to shield the backline.

Kelvin Wilson and stubbs were poor in their first season.

I would not be surprised to see trusty kick on in the second season. He will benefir more than anyone from having K.T outside him. I expect engles and Adam will kick on after a full preseason.

Folk underestimate the benefit of a good preseason for fitness, sharpness and tactical planning i.e., shape, patterns of play, routines etc.

Hopefully we can get a several quality players into the building that offer the technical ability alongside the physical attributes.

  11. Victor Wanyama was a better player than CCV, and could play at centre back….

Difficult for some to comprehend I know.

CCV is a half decent player, and a better player by comparison to most of our recent centre back recruits.

Needs to be supported by reliable and consistent partners, not sure we have achieved that over the past couple of seasons. An area we could improve

  12. quadrophenian on

CCV is an absolute baller of a player whose consistent reliability gets a bit taken for granted.

Remember how we stuttered, stumbled and leakedafter he was out for about 6 weeks with injury?

He’s so reliable it’s passes without remark; so when he makes a human error, it’s very noticeable.

Absolutely my kind of CH; someone needs to slip into the left CH berth and show the same reliability and maybe be more of that aerial ball winner we need to stop our free kick vulnerability.

PS; tech query guys… Tino’s CelticExchange is my go to podcast station but their website is suddenly unavailable – showing ‘critical error’ – downunder – is the website showing available in other territories ?

  13. Another conflict caused by the Brits partitioning countries.

    —-

To be more accurate perhaps – it’s a conflict caused by the divide and conquer approach by the British empire in it’s governance of foreign countries.

Like Ireland, Britain encouraged and fostered religious differences in India to help it in occupying the country. Partition was a result of this divide and conquer governance.

That’s not quite what you claimed earlier. You named seven ex-players (including Wanyama) and said they “were all better centre backs”.

    Nice attempt at backtracking though…

  17. INTER v BARCA last night.

I was expecting a Scoring Draw at Full Time, but I WRONGLY thought last nights game would NOT quite live up to the excitement of last weeks 3 – 2 Draw.

So my Bet with the Bookie last night was a Correct Score of 2 – 2 at the end of ” Normal Time”.

    I was WRONG.

I won’t lose any sleep over it.

Sometimes, I am a CHUMP , because I DID expect a scoring draw so I SHOULD have had a small Stake of the game finishing 3 – 3 like last weeks game.

    Who’s a Silly Bhoy then ?

Fitting of the final itself .

Over the two games I thought Barca the far better football team but it’s about putting the ball in the net more times than your opponent ……

This HUN CHUMP also goes onto say that the New USA Investment will NOT mean lots of spending at Govan, because of ” FFP RULES” ?

Yet another Hun Chump who seems to believe that the Huns should be treated differently from other Clubs regarding the ” RULES”.

Does this Hun NOT realise that any FFP Rules apply to ALL Clubs ?

Imagine asking any Hun Player who gained riches from EBT Schemes, to comment on ” FFP RULES” ?

I always called Lovernkrands ” THE RACOON” during his days with the Huns mainly because HE LOOKS LIKE One, with those Two Black Eyes.
