Formidable CCV

176

With the season’s finish line just a few weeks away, thoughts inevitably turn to squad changes in the months ahead, in particular, who will be subject to a disruptive bid.  No matter how long he stays at Celtic, you and I will always worry about keeping hold of Cameron Carter-Vickers.  This century, only Virgil van Dijk is comparable in central defensive ability.

Cameron (27) will pick  up his fourth league winners medal and hopes to add a third Scottish Cup winners medal to add to the same tally of League Cup golds.  He is lightning quick and formidable in the challenge.  For the second time in three years, he got a big game out of the way near the end of the season, before dropping out of the squad for treatment.  His availability has to be managed.

That’s not to say he would not find a place in an ELP squad, I am sure he would, but if, as I expect, we manage to hold onto the player for another few seasons, it will be because of this fitness overhead.  Otherwise, he would be one of three top players I would be worried about this summer.

  1. Victor was a good midfielder but centre half not for me.

He had a big part to play in our League Cup final defeat to Killie where he had a very poor opening 25 minutes at centre half , if memory serves , which it may not.

  2. The Barca-Inter tie is the CL at its stunning best. Barca, a Club financially crippled are once again one the best sides in the world thanks to their La Masia.

    Some breathtaking football.

But, the defending !? To stand off players 6-7 yards from your own goal and basically invite them to shoot is among the worst defending you’re likely to see at any level. If we defended like that in the Glasgow Cup I’d be asking serious questions about our coaching. Barca threw it away.

“Victor Wanyama was a better player than CCV, and could play at centre back….”

I see you’ve run into some difficulties there playing down CCV, a tad. He’s due his ‘annual recovery time’ that seems in built for his body or is it his mind? We shouldn’t really hold that against him, some players are conditioned like that, and “ aren’t robots ” ©️ BR

Jump in the air! he can do that maybe just not as well timed, or as consistently as some. You’ll have seen him outjump the entire Sevco defence, when he almost scored in the first half at IBrokes. Yes, it doesn’t help when we’ve two 1.85M (midgets) partnered, especially when neither can apparently jump as high as wee Nico Raskin who is now ‘Jimmy two times ‘ in as many years, in the Premiership.

Anyway, on his feet CCV has been a constant, a much more cultured player than Bobo and you’d need to help us with Victor Wanyama’s Centre Back credentials, or mibbee good games for Celtic. As for Kelvin Wilson – come on mate?

“Taking CB seriously” Trusty, Nawrocki, Lagerbielke weren’t cheap either. Should we be doubling or trebling the fees to get any value or return, or are we taking punts?

FWIW I think BR’s has backed himself into a bit of a corner, with his ‘left footed’ preference, in his CB pairing. Trusty and Scales perfect to pair with CCV, but both have been rotated or dropped depending on how you look at it. Some Celtic supporters think we need another CB without losing CCV our best for a debatably long time.

    Love Celtic summers.

  4. The Ibrox takeover does seem to me to be taking just a bit too long.

The only thing the current directors are negotiating is their sell price. That’s all they care about. They’re not asking the new prospective owners about their plans for the club or proof of funds to drive the club on. They want their money and they’re out.

I would have thought the bid price would be sorted at this stage considering the story broke some months back.

    Supply and demand

Celtic could sell 20,000 three times over and faster.

Fact is, we try to prioritise within the fan base who gets our tickets

  12. It’s possible Aberdeen has sold the allocation to between 5000 and 20, 000 supporters

Very good response to my response to Paul67s claim that CCV is second only to Virgil in the ceentre back stakes.

Kelvin Wilson played away and home against Barcelona back in our 125th year in 2012, famously winning 2-1, that alone puts him above CCV, was sorry to see him leave when he did. Wanyama played that night too.

I remember being in the Jungle one time when Bobby Murdoch swung over a long pass to Bobby Lennox who mistimed its bounce and the ball sailed over towards us in the crowd, to which a Glasgow fan reacted,…….

“Hey Boaby for yer jumpin doon the way”….CCV does that half the time

LIke I said he is a half decent player, but no need for hyperbole.
