Forrest again at Hampden in the League Cup

323

Celtic won their 17th successive game at Hampden yesterday to reach their fifth League Cup final in six seasons, though St Johnstone made them work for their rewards.  Substitute James Forrest pounced on a loose ball on the 73rd minute to calm nerves among the vast majority of the crowd.

The defence’s impressive start to the season continued, in part thanks to St Johnstone’s inability to stage an attack that did not emanate from some slack ball control from a Celtic player.  Despite a perfect Hampden pitch, our passing game was not at its best for fleeting moments.

Jota and Liel Abada were clearly under instructions to stretch the St Johnstone defence by sticking to the touchline.  As a consequence, Abada was a virtual spectator, unable to influence the game with his timed runs into the box.  Nir Bitton played well at occasionally broke through the lines, but for the most part, the gameplan looked to be stifling.  It reminded me of the 2017 League Cup Final win over Motherwell, settled, in part, by another James Forrest goal.

  1. My football pleasures are simple:

    1) Celtic winning;

    2) Sevco losing.

    1 + 2 = Much happiness.

“Hibs in the Final and oh what a scene all Hampden was covered in

    banners of green”

  3. How good is it Watching them getting beat and having the absolute bonus of not being a nervous wreck going into the last 5 mins.

They are rank rotten .. they are most certainly there for the taking .

    Have a good evening everyone.

  4. Hibs will be a hard team to beat in the Final – they punt the ba’ over the top to great effect.

At least there will be nae Huns @ Hampden. :))))))))))

  5. HO HO HO.

Hibs will be much tougher challenge in the final but Sevco hun pain is worth it away for a laugh at thems site

    Defoe played 1 lost 1 as a manager 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  6. thank goodness the blue meanies had left already, the sight of a tri-colour on the pitch would have been a justification to invade and protect their players.

Just got a text from a hibs fan who says told you to take a ticket. My reply was if I did you would have lost, and stay in the ground as long as you can, the mob will be revolting, naturally😂

  9. Hot Smoked,

I even got a bet coming up. Hibs to win and over 3.5 goals 28/1.

  10. “Rangers “have now progressed beyond the semi-final stage of the two cup competitions just once in their last nine attempts.

  11. I think Hibs will be the ideal team for us to play in the final. Good team but they’ll come out unlike 11 men behind the ball yesterday. We are definitely like a team/unit now. Whoever comes in, does a job. Hard game on Thursday, no doubt. I’ll be happy with a decent performance to set us up against Aberdeen on Sunday. A few decent signings in January (early on, I am expecting) and we’ll be right on course for the rest of the season.

  19. Really don’t understand this love in with Hibs.

I think the huns were there for the taking and I think they would have been the easier opponents in the final.

I dispise the huns as much as anyone on here, but my first thoughts are what is best for Celtic. And I think the huns would have been the easier opponents.

  20. The door is open – we must show our intention in the January window – not to so do would be a clear dereliction of duty……& of course the gap must not grow in the next six weeks.

  21. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

A question was posed on here last night about Celtic’s prospects in a completely different competition …

…. based solely on the team’s performance in a League Cup semi-final.

I wonder if the poster will do us the courtesy of posing that same question tonight the subject this time being Sevco?
