Forrest again at Hampden in the League Cup

323

Celtic won their 17th successive game at Hampden yesterday to reach their fifth League Cup final in six seasons, though St Johnstone made them work for their rewards.  Substitute James Forrest pounced on a loose ball on the 73rd minute to calm nerves among the vast majority of the crowd.

The defence’s impressive start to the season continued, in part thanks to St Johnstone’s inability to stage an attack that did not emanate from some slack ball control from a Celtic player.  Despite a perfect Hampden pitch, our passing game was not at its best for fleeting moments.

Jota and Liel Abada were clearly under instructions to stretch the St Johnstone defence by sticking to the touchline.  As a consequence, Abada was a virtual spectator, unable to influence the game with his timed runs into the box.  Nir Bitton played well at occasionally broke through the lines, but for the most part, the gameplan looked to be stifling.  It reminded me of the 2017 League Cup Final win over Motherwell, settled, in part, by another James Forrest goal.

  1. English giving way to wishful thinking on Radio Scotland. Says St Johnstone were unlucky. Played well and were stiffling Celtic, until James Forrest scored.

Well, at least the semis were mentioned. Hibs, according to English, were brilliant.

  2. Morning all. Very cold here in the Fair City.

Great waking up this Monday morning after the weekend’s football results and having a day off work. Will pick up my Celtic calendars and do a bit of shopping.

All going well, I’ll have my first to Glasgow this Saturday since lock down. Really looking forward to game on Sunday.

I was listening to it before the huns game yesterday, English said that it would have gone to extra time if Jamesy hadn’t scored. Towering intellect that he is.

They made no mention of the one sided nature of the contest and were giving StJ all the credit, absolute pish.

English is a clueless idiot with an agenda, just like the rest of the shortbread cabal.

  5. …………..and if St Johnstone had scored twice in the last few minutes we’d be out.

    Am depressed noo.

    Their pain is palpable………………….love it.

  6. Is that 9 wins and one draw in Celtics past 10 competitive games ?

If it is then I am not sure I have heard these stats trotted out in the media at all ? Funny they seem much keener in the stats if they are less positive.

I do believe our rivals are less positive but not really seeing that mentioned anywhere either.

  7. If you have the free sport channnel (sky422) Celtic league cup game on at 11.45 this morning.

Hibernian game on at 10.00 pm tonight.

  8. the things they dont mention –

Allan McGregor has played 14 games this season and only ONCE kept a clean sheet.

  9. One of the things that took me. Y surprise yesterday was the large number of tricolours amongst the Hibs support. Normally when they’re involved in big games you can see a few but I haven’t seen that many since the 1960s. Maybe the Hibs fans of Irish descent are reasserting themselves.

hes been there so long that hes made plenty good saves too and hes had a couple of blinders v the TIc

but each year he makes howlers

the main difference between him and tic keepers is in the reporting/perception
