Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

962

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

  1. However the season ends it’s the custodians of Celtic to blame .

The continued appointment of Lenny was gross incompetence,we all knew it would end in disaster.

DD &PL must shoulder the blame ,but in MHO Bankier is a snake in the grass, his comments at the end of a previous AGM should have had him chased out of our club .

To lose the league to this tribute act is a disgrace ,

  2. In England entire teams are isolating due to Covid – games are being postponed or in the FA cup academy sides are being fielded. No finger pointing except when there’s obvious social breaches – attending parties etc.

Heard it is an injured player who wasn’t on the trip. Not sure of source though.

Rumour doing Twitter is it is senior first team player recently injured and who didn’t travel to Dubai.

It will be clear tomorrow based on whether Hibs game goes ahead I expect.

  6. Jullien is the rumour. He was apparently brought out to Dubai.

We simply haven’t a leg to stand on here if Jullien was flown out.

What was he doing at ‘a high intensity training camp’ when he’s out injured long term ?

With this new more infectious variant of covid, these footballers can catch it anywhere. Unless their whole life is house > football stadium > and back again.

They can get it at the petrol station pumping in their pin numbers to pay for it and scratching their nose!

Cheers Gene, I missed that 😄

Now to look for Celtic being 10 points clear at the top!

  9. There for the beers and banter

Aye. If the rumours are true then pretending Dubai was anything other than a piss up is ridiculous.

  10. Bhoy From The Boyne on

If it happens to be a Dubai trip player, does whole first team + management in attendance need to isolate?

I would think so meaning fielding youth team or forfeiting next 2-3 games to the opposition?

Just a symptom of where we are as a club.

Board reckon it’s fine to travel across the world in these times.

Where will all of this end?

  15. Probably unwise to put my team choice up for the morra night all things considered.

  16. If the apocalyptic scenario comes to pass: I.e. the player was in Dubai, everyone has to self-isolate and we have to play Youth Team in next 3 games OR if we are sanctioned by SFA then heads will have to role at a very high level.

  17. Let’s wait and see what happens. I confidently predict no matter what happens, heads will not roll.

One thing is clear this season. Celtic do not do accountability.

  18. garygillespieshamstring on

Only three scotland players were required to self isolate, not the whole team. Likewise with Israel team.

They are going to get their arse felt next season when at least 15k don’t review their ST’s.

  20. That’s what happens when you put Neil Young in charge…….

But don’t let it bring you down….
