Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

962

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

If you haven’t seen it give it a go.

    Inspiring and uplifting.

    True story

  2. On French Eddy if you watch the huns goal big Eddy punches the ground in anger and disappointment probably the most emotional ive seen him that’s hardly the action of somone who doesn’t care , we see what we want to see imo , when were winning hes ice cool (good ) when were losing hes aloof (bad) same demeanor different interpretation by us I think .

Point is….initially said he wanted to stay with us…and we binned Gordon on that day so

SFTB – Very good stuff re possible calling of the league – cheers.

One other potential factor (not sure which way this will go) is Euro 2020.

I’d previously assumed the football authorities in Scotland would ensure the league programme ended before the Euros.

    Not so sure now.

Sky have the Euros and the SPFL.

Shortened league means less money from the broadcaster.

    Money Scottish clubs desperately need.

If the league is played to completion through the summer it helps our slim chances.

Downside though – don’t be surprised if McGregor, Christie, Taylor, Turnbull, Griffiths, Forrest and Bain are called up by Clarke and so unavailable.

    Hail hail

He said this. He said that. He said something else.

How much did Celtic offer him?

How much were Southampton paying him?

    That’s questions I obviously can’t answer…

but he could have been more honest in his dealings with Lenny

  7. 31003 on 8TH JANUARY 2021 10:58 PM

Neither of us were privy to what they discussed. The meaningful discussion would have been with Lawwell though, not NFL.

  8. Ernie

    Agreed

But I’m sure I remember Lenny saying that he was confident the Forster would be staying.

I doubt he’d say that if Forster wasn’t giving Lenny positive vibes during their conversations. I’m well aware “negotiations” would be between Forster/his agent and Lawwell.

  9. 31003 on 8TH JANUARY 2021 11:06 PM

I think it will have come down to money. No way FF would have given an undertaking to stay without regard to the spondoolicks.

I wasn’t going anywhere with that subject other than pointing out that the Scottish Government making threatening noises to end our league was NOT a good thing for us.

I did not start the topic. Some had suggested it was proof that the SNP were not against us as the league would be Null & Void, in their eyes.

I pointed out that Null & Void is a forlorn hope as , since last year’s league was “awarded”, I believe this one will be too.

I am not depending on hope of a Null & Void. I hope just for a steady closing of a large gap so that we don’t pile despair upon despair. Oh! and another Scottish Cup would ne welcome too.

  11. Ernie

    Agreed again

Like I say, he’s quoted as saying it was always his intention to go back to Southampton.

I’ll bet if we’d offered more his intention was always to stay.

    That’s fine.

The reason he’s off my Christmas card list though is he played Lenny for a fool and cost us a goalie (Gordon) and subsequently played us for fools

It’s a well worn path this, every player who leaves, or doesn’t sign for, Celtic when terms aren’t agreed is cast as a villain.

Apologies friend , I should have read the full blog … the beer and whisky is starting to darken my eyes :))

Agree null / void would not be the best outcome . To be honest i never wanted “handed the league last year ” . I thought at the time, it was a dangerous precedent to set for this very reason . The league should have been played to a finish. But then again we are ruled by we jimmy C

  15. If I had been in Forsters shoes/boots, I’d have said to Lenny, “ I want to stay, but it’s down to who pays the most”

I think, just going by Lennys comments at the time, Forster said, “I want to stay”, but never mentioned the “but”

  16. 31003 on 8TH JANUARY 2021 11:31 PM

Yeah and NFL being new to the game, and very naïve, didn’t consider that money would be a consideration.

    Talk sense FFS.

  17. Ernie

I’ve been in Forsters position, albeit not in a football sense.

To my boss I said, after being approached by another company, “ I love this place, I never want to leave.”

I said that in the hope they’d give me a rise that would make my existing salary higher than I had been offered elsewhere. They didn’t and I was off. I was two faced about it but I didn’t cost them a goalie.

    Oh….and no need for profanities

    Can’t stand the guy

  19. Daniel Bergher hits the ball 20 yds past the hole……then spins it back 19yds to leave a 3’ putt

  20. Patrick Reed is wearing a nice purple/white flower shirt/blouse with blue slacks and matching white shoes. His white gold buckled belt only compliments the spring look ensemble

  21. Every golfer in the field wearing some item that’s white, whether it be shoes, slacks, shirts or hats, except for Norbert Twatt,or so I thought. Only when he bent down to retrieve his ball from the hole, is when we notice that, rather than be left out of the tribute to white attire did we notice the subtle nod to all things white by his brown streaked white thong.

So, for all amateur golfers out there, it would seem that this year, white is the new brown

  22. It just goes to show, even if you don’t like golf, it’s still worth watching, even if it’s only to pick up fashion tips

    Re null and void

Our conversation with my mates since May has been that we had to ensure we didn’t fall behind on points per game at any stage of this season as it would suit everyone in Scotland who isn’t a Celtic supporter as the league would be declared at the earliest opportunity once the huns went ahead.

Still believe this is the case.

  24. GARYGILLESPIESHAMSTRING

How nice would it be though to have played one game less, be 1 point behind and be declared champions?
