Forrest Feedback Club, Nir ruffling

913

The James Forrest Feedback Club were quiet last night.  I’ve no idea if James will rediscover his form on a sustained basis, or if his limbs will allow him to attain his potential, but it was good to see him running at defenders with confidence again.

He got the measure of John Rankin early on.  Thereafter the United marker could do little more than block James whenever they faced-off.

I’ve been impressed with Dundee United during this series of games.  Fojut held things together remarkably well at Hampden, you can see why we signed him subject to a medical, while Ryan McGowan was clearly their best player at Celtic Park, notwithstanding his late lunge at Liam Henderson.  Well done to McGowan for coming onto Twitter to share apologies and congratulations.

Nadir Ciftci’s swagger reminded me of Jackie Dziekanowski in his latter days as a Celtic player.  He’s probably found his level at United, where he can turn it on at will, but the modern game is looking for something different.

Loved the moment when a fouled Nir Bitton ruffled the hair of his assailant, Aiden Connolly.  Nir is growing by the week, I’m working hard to avoid comparisons.  We’ve not seen much of an edge from him since that, mistimed, tackle against Ajax, but he could do with some of that in-your-face attitude others in the midfield have.

Not been online much since the game, what suspension have the SFA offered Paul Paton after his altercation with Anthony Stokes?

Keep your eyes peeled for a nomad.  They can hide in bins and outhouses.  Check your shed.  Any will do.

  1. the long wait is over on

    sandman,

My view at the outset was – Don’t know him give him time.

There were definitely moments when he looked out of his depth. There may be more to come.

By and large I am more than pleasantly surprised at how much progress has been made in a relatively short time.

A treble would silence most critics. Personally I’d settle for the league.

The biggest test is yet to come – CL qualification next year.

That’s the acid test for me.

  2. If DU do not change their tactics on Sat then the rough house antics will only motivate one set of players and I would expect them to be on the end of a severe thumping.

If Jackie Mac doesnt have a different strategy it will only show his limitations as a coach

  3. Tony Donnelly every player who plays against Celtic are Thugs.example McGowan of Dundee Utd you brand him a thug.what a childest statement. This is a contact sport.not Peever.take your tinted green specks.off.

Can we pack in this ‘why is wee Jackie no being nice to us’ nonsense, we’ve just driven a 10 ton truck thru his season, bundling them out of both cups, of course he’s not going to be nice to us, DUFC pay his wages, thats the only people he will be nice to, quite naive to expect anything else.

  9. Dundee United again on Saturday!!!

    3 o’clock kick-off… on a Saturday!!!

    What’s going on???

14 home games so far and this will be only our 5th at 3… on a Saturday!!!

  10. John Gudetti – 22yrs old. 29 Appearances 13 goals 11 assists. He’s by far the most productive player in the team.

  11. South of Tunis

Couldn’t help but think of you and your nomme de blog when things kicked of yesterday in Tunis. Lost for words otherwise.

As for George Connelly…just a thought..is your fondness for him as a favourite Celt due at all to the fact that we lost him so early, and lost him to obscurity too. How good could he have become? How many trophies? How many caps?

    Hope all is well.

BTW I have a daughter in law whose maiden name was Licata. I never argue with her :o)

  12. Ronny Deila’s press conference.

    —-

Ronny Deila speaking to the media at Celtic Park today: I’ve not seen the whole game from last night

    —–

RD> stefanjohansen, Gary M S & Stu Armstrong are back, hopefully Adam Matthews as well. stoksey is out.

RD: I’ve a good feeling, good tempo in last night’s game, improvement to what we are working towards.

    ———-

RD: I’m excited about the game. It is about mental and physical preparation so you are 100% for the game.

    ——

RD: I think yesterday’s game was calm game until the end. Teams get frustrated when they are losing.

RD: In football you forget things very quick. You can fall out on the pitch and in training but they are quickly forgotten.

    ——-

RD: We are in good shape, good place right now, players are happy and you can see that.

    ———–

RD: Players have to enjoy playing football and playing every game. From professionals down to 7-8 year olds playing.

    ——

RD: We have a big squad and so many good players, we have to use our squad, this is a luxury for me.

    ———

RD on ICTFC: One of the best teams we have met this year.

    ——

RD on kcommons, Good performance, he looked sharper & created things. We know he can be a match winner for us.

    ——–

RD on his plan for Celtic: My plan is ChampionsLeague football, win everything in Scotland , Create a culture of development, performance & play attractive football.

    ———–

RD: We’ve come far since August. We have the League Cup and I think we are playing better football than at the start of the season.

That’s all from Ronny Deila’s media conference, we will have more on http://www.celticfc.net & watch it later on http://www.celticfc.tv

  13. Not a fan of Forrest. Happy to put that out there and I posted last night at half time that he would never get an easier night playing one on one against a midfielder playing at left back. United gave Rankin very little protection also which was surprising. It works both ways, in that people cannot jump in the band wagon because he had a half decent game.

  14. Ryan McGowan is an Ozzie raised to play sports, so commitment and physicality are part of his DNA. (I know stereotyping etc)

He is/was Utd’s Scott Brown – just not as good as Broonie.

BTW Come back Stevie Frail – you were missed last night.

  15. South Of Tunis on

    rwe.

Moniker came from the name of a bar in which I made my first post.I live in the part of Sicily which is further south than Tunis.

My assessment of George Connelly is based solely on how he played when he played.

  16. Heresy on here I know… but…

McGowan’s tackle wasn’t two footed (no matter how much Paul Cuddihy screams it out)

Liam Henderson saw it coming and pulled his legs out of the way, which created a false impression about the severity and level of contact from McGowan.

McGowan’s leading leg was a studs up challenge that was likely to do damage had Liam not pulled his leg out.

Passions were high everywhere, because Stokes had just been sent off, but wasclearly bleeding from the mouth after a flailing hand from Paton which the ref missed.

McGowan had been putting it about the whole game and had incensed Celtic fans already.

I was surprised to see throughout the whole of the video rerun that players from both sides were patting each other on the back, putting arms round one another, pulling each other up from the ground after fouling them – all during the game and with no comment at all from the audio team. Based on the commentary, it sounded like WW3 and an honest mistake ref.

  18. Way back in August, United came to CP and thought they could beat us by playing an open, attacking game of football. Big mistake when, as we all remember, they were cuffed 6-1.

So Jackie and his back room team have to resort to trying to win by other means.

They were relatively successful in the initial tie and of course they thought the agricultural football they employed then could get them through.

Hence the tactics on show at the weekend and last night.

  19. After all the crap wee Jackie has spouted in the last couple of weeks does anyone else think he could have a career as radio, or mibbe BT Sports?

  20. Comparisons are rubbish. Let the Bhoy Bitton develop (and he is still a work in progress) in his own time. The improvement in his overall game has been remarkable in just 6 months. Perhaps we are seeing the most valuable aspect of Ronny and his team- an ability to develop and encourage.

For this reason MickBhoy1888 your point about Ronny not fancying trebles indefinitely is off the mark. Important as they are, Ronny’s brief as “Director of Player Operations” encompasses so much more behind the scenes.

By the overall increased professionalism evident at Lennoxtown, as an example, it’s obvious he sees sleep as a distraction.

Ronny Deila is a total football fanatic and a gigantic club such as Celtic, with its numbers in support and underdog status in Europe is just the environment he will relish in making his mark for some time to come. He was at his last club six and a half years.

When he does move on, he will have left a legacy behind him for his successor to continue the work with little disruption to first team performances.

    I miscommunciated earlier.

Licata is a town in southern Sicily and I knew of your geog reference etc when posting.

I still only had you as a reference point for Tunis – even if you were in Sicily.

  23. People have opinions on football. They aren’t worth falling out over.

There was some early season hysteria over Ronnie D but being honest it did have its foundations in some really poor results.

I liked what I was seeing idea wise if not application. I remember thinking he’d changed things around a little and wasn’t sticking to a formula that didn’t work. That gave me some hope. Glad he was given time.

That said – I was severely critical of Nir Biton quite often. We’re all wrong sometimes….

  24. Well the dust has settled on round three ……..we are well ahead…..can we deliver a knockout blow on sat ?…. I hope so…

As a support tho we do talk pash …………McNamara never a Tim etc ………read the same garbage about John Collins on this very blog …..that too was utter garbage …….

McNamara is trying like feck to stay in a job ……….we would all do the same …..

In all the times I saw McNamara against the huns I never saw him have a bad game !!!

That to me says a helluva lot ….

Surely we as a support are better than that garbage……..

  25. The Glib and Shameless One knows what he is doing.

He is back in Southern Africa in search of his Nomad.

Daily he is scouring the Namibian bush and Kalahari desert for willing bushmen.

As hospitable as the bushmen are, they promptly disappear into the wilds as soon as Big Dave mentions The Rangers.

So good are they at blending into their surroundings, that the only way King David can detect them is from their raucous laughter.

Bitton would have developed under Lenny too, but he picked up a bad injury last season. Really happy to see his progress this season and hoping for good things from young Liam too.

In my opinion McGowan is a thug, and a clown, if you like players like that trying to finish a promising young Celtic players then you live with that, me I don’t mid a hard tackle, but that clown had three dirty rotten ones in three games against us, and last nights was the worse, and that’s not a childish statement it’s what I saw at Celtic Park last night through my brand new glasses, FACT.
