Forrest Feedback Club, Nir ruffling

913

The James Forrest Feedback Club were quiet last night.  I’ve no idea if James will rediscover his form on a sustained basis, or if his limbs will allow him to attain his potential, but it was good to see him running at defenders with confidence again.

He got the measure of John Rankin early on.  Thereafter the United marker could do little more than block James whenever they faced-off.

I’ve been impressed with Dundee United during this series of games.  Fojut held things together remarkably well at Hampden, you can see why we signed him subject to a medical, while Ryan McGowan was clearly their best player at Celtic Park, notwithstanding his late lunge at Liam Henderson.  Well done to McGowan for coming onto Twitter to share apologies and congratulations.

Nadir Ciftci’s swagger reminded me of Jackie Dziekanowski in his latter days as a Celtic player.  He’s probably found his level at United, where he can turn it on at will, but the modern game is looking for something different.

Loved the moment when a fouled Nir Bitton ruffled the hair of his assailant, Aiden Connolly.  Nir is growing by the week, I’m working hard to avoid comparisons.  We’ve not seen much of an edge from him since that, mistimed, tackle against Ajax, but he could do with some of that in-your-face attitude others in the midfield have.

Not been online much since the game, what suspension have the SFA offered Paul Paton after his altercation with Anthony Stokes?

Keep your eyes peeled for a nomad.  They can hide in bins and outhouses.  Check your shed.  Any will do.

Badly written on my part.I started going to Celtic games in season 56 / 57.In mitigation, I rarely get to speak English these days.

    Opinions / Opinions .

Nir Biton is growing on me but I find the George Connelly comparisons to be way off the mark. As things stand he is nowhere near as good as George Connelly.. George Connelly is one of my five all time Celtic greats. I started that assessment in season 56/ 57

Yes George was a great player, but I think he has been lifted to this legendary status, due to the fact that he cut his own career short. In 6 years, when he was regarded as a first team regular,he played a total of 136 games.Thats it.

To put him in the same bracket as,Larsson,Dalglish,Lennox,Mc Neil,Johnstone,Murdoch, etc in my opinion is pushing the legend status a bit far.He had howlers as well. The Centenary cup final against the huns,he was very poor.

He was a great talent, but far too short a career.

I remember him mhate. But only in a Panini sticker kinda fashion.

As I mentioned earlier I had my own ‘where did the years go’ moment last night as I realised Jnr couldn’t really remember Ki in the Hoops!

  6. Anybody think that the BBC websites main story was distasteful this morning.

“Pellegrini’s time is up” – says the font of knowledge that is Robbie Savage. Guy won the league in England only last year.

What a joke. I would understand replacing him if one of the top coaches like Pep, Simeone or Ancellotti was available. Sacking for the sake of it is daft.

  8. George Connelly v Nir Biton

Comparisons between players of current and previous eras are a favourite pastime of fans of all teams.

The problem for all current players is that they can not compete with their predecessors

Their entire career is available on tape, all their highlights and all of their mistakes.

However so little tape is available of players before the modern era

The mists of time and our memories make all our heroes run faster , tackle harder, score more than they ever did in reality.

Comparisons are a convenient shorthand .

It doesn’t mean better ,it is just easier when describing a players attributes.

No tape exists of my exploits , take it from me .

    I was brilliant……(ish)

    Yer arse in parsley.

A Tillicoultry born and bred pal was fond of that saying. He claimed that the parsley referred to pubic hair.He also claimed that the necessary response was – Aye and yer balls are leeks.

Ryan McGowan’s appeal against Celtic red card won’t be heard by the SFA before Saturday. He is free to play at Parkhead.

  12. Sandman,

Everything you say in your RD post is exactly what the RD supporters were saying then.Give him a chance. We were not jumping on the “Get rid of him “bandwagon. You say,”Work in progress”.Yes,we all agree with that, but the progress is going the right way.

If it had been up to the “RD out”shouters,we would not be in the position we are today.

Some of the comments made against RD at the time were totally out of order.More akin to a Hun website. No one had a crystal ball, and the ones who stood by him are not gloating, but again, was it too hard to give the guy a chance before slaughtering him?.

personally, I’m okay – happy, in fact – if RMcG plays on the weekend …. time one of our players had a ‘quiet word in his ear’ when the ref isn’t looking …. just do it smart … not like AS yesterday, reacting when the ref is right beside him.

For what it’s worth – Italian fitba have long rumored that Simeone is going to Man City and Pellegrini is going to Napoli

  16. Rock Tree Bhoy on

Hands up I feared the worst when I heard that Forrest, Commons and Stokes were in the starting 11 last night, I was about 90 plus per cent sure that we would be too lightweight in the middle and that this would ultimately cost us the tie, in fact even now I’m astonished that we won the game 4 nil, which just goes to show tactically I’m a bit of a numpty:-)

  17. If you have to resort to “try to do”another player it is cheating and therefore criminal. Why play a f-cking sport in the first place if you need to break the rules. Be as hard as you want or are but within the rules. Hh

Impressed with utd ffs , they are a piss poor side, full of thugs, 2 games 2 strikes on goal yeah that,s impressive just another pathetic spl side and were struggling to win this league

Really dont want to respond to this stupid post, but just how are we struggling in this league?.Possibly 6 points ahead of our nearest challenger, while playing on all fronts.Have beaten same,in the 3 games we have played them. Not our fault they are winning their other games. If you hate this league so much,go and watch the EPL.

  21. mike in toronto on

TD …. I dont disagree…. and, as much as I would like us to be a bit tougher, I also recognize that, while others get away with bloody murder, our players would be banned for the slightest transgressions ….

but, it is still nice to dream.

Although, in the old MON team, you knew there were a few guys who could take care of themselves/sort out someone who was taking liberties …. and we all remember Barry Robson laying down a marker … but, with the exception of SB (who is not shrinking violet, but isn’t always smart about it), who in the present team is really a hard b*****d that can scare an opponent? None that I can really think of.

Every EPL manager is under threat while ‘The Gardener’ is available!

    But seriously. .

I think Pellegrini won the League Cup last year too.

He also finally got Citeh to the Knock-out stages of the CL.

So, I think he should stay on, especially as there is a question mark around whether he has control of new signings.

Maybe Savage should be looking elsewhere for blame.

I would say that playing 2 centrally v Barca in the first leg was a bit naive though.

Various people have picked up on my George Connelly reference to Nir Biton

I repeat that this comparison is made by a gang of elderly gents who populate 405 and while they clearly enjoy their day out when the come to CP, they speak of the game with some insight and knowledge

If THEY want to compare Biton to Connelly in terms of style then that’s up to them and I offered the comment as an aside to our hosts leader article today which appeared to invite comparisons

Nobody said Biton was better than or as good as Connelly.

Some people want to read what people are actually saying before jumping to conclusions.

  25. Beatbhoy……………..Pelligrini according to pundit Eamonn Dunphy on TV last night, he has no say in club signings.

That’s kinda what I skirted around earlier.

    Weighorst… Connolly… Ki…all been mentioned.

It’s a position and style thing. There’s not one poster claiming he is as good as any, or better or worse but some seem to read it as that

Geordie, I knew what you were getting at, as you know your fitba’.

    Parkheadcum….

It was just some of us praising Bitton and likening him to Connelly.

What was meant that it was in style, not necessarily are comparison on skill and talent.

As was mentioned, different eras make direct comparisons worthless.

    TonyD,

The swiftness of last weeks Ciftci Appeals panel and the delay in Mc.Gowan’s looks suspicious.

One was rushed to allow the guy to play and the other held off to allow the guy to play.

Oh well, I suppose the SFA Disciplinary Panel know what they’re doing!!!

  29. mike in toronto

I don’t think Johansen is a shrinking violet, but as you say, we don’t get away with it, so it’s pointless trying, most fouls against Celtic are in the oppositions half of the park, because of the high tempo game we play up front, and I like that, same as Barca. Not that I’m saying…….lol, you know.
