Forrest Feedback Club, Nir ruffling

913

The James Forrest Feedback Club were quiet last night.  I’ve no idea if James will rediscover his form on a sustained basis, or if his limbs will allow him to attain his potential, but it was good to see him running at defenders with confidence again.

He got the measure of John Rankin early on.  Thereafter the United marker could do little more than block James whenever they faced-off.

I’ve been impressed with Dundee United during this series of games.  Fojut held things together remarkably well at Hampden, you can see why we signed him subject to a medical, while Ryan McGowan was clearly their best player at Celtic Park, notwithstanding his late lunge at Liam Henderson.  Well done to McGowan for coming onto Twitter to share apologies and congratulations.

Nadir Ciftci’s swagger reminded me of Jackie Dziekanowski in his latter days as a Celtic player.  He’s probably found his level at United, where he can turn it on at will, but the modern game is looking for something different.

Loved the moment when a fouled Nir Bitton ruffled the hair of his assailant, Aiden Connolly.  Nir is growing by the week, I’m working hard to avoid comparisons.  We’ve not seen much of an edge from him since that, mistimed, tackle against Ajax, but he could do with some of that in-your-face attitude others in the midfield have.

Not been online much since the game, what suspension have the SFA offered Paul Paton after his altercation with Anthony Stokes?

Keep your eyes peeled for a nomad.  They can hide in bins and outhouses.  Check your shed.  Any will do.

    Thanks for confirming that.

Not that Savage will ask anything about that, as he just wants a simple “Pellegrini out” headline, even if other people’s decisions on signings for the club have been poor on the whole.

Look what happened at Chelsea when Abramovich bought Balack and Sevchenko for Mourinho.

The only one to benefit from those signings was Sir Fuwious.

It’ll be a minor miracle if the team survives those four games without any of our players being seriously injured in the process.

McNamara set the precedent from the beginning of the very first game when Stokes was assaulted. Brown stamped on the head.

Dillon trying to break wee Emilio’s leg on Sunday – then the thuggery at Celtic Park last night.

A litany of brutality it is.

Nothing to do with it being a hard game, and it’s not funny – dirt from the start, and cowardly.

How long do you think that the likes of McGowan or Paton would last on a hurling or Gaelic football pitch?

George Connelly held the world record for keepy uppy, and did it an exhibition round the ole red blaize running track at CP.

    ******

You must have been very young at the time.

I reckon George was 16 when he did it, pre a midweek Euro tie against one of the Dinamo, , Kiev or Moscow(they all looked the same to me).

Also, if I recall, he did it from the centre circle to each goal mouth, befor returning to the dressing room to finish his homework.

I sit to be corrected by Gordon or Tontine!

NIR Bitton is his own man.how someone can come on here and say he reminds of George Connelly is not on.

    ———

    Why?

Having watched George Connelly in nearly every game he played for Celtic,I can see why people now watching Nir,would be reminded of him.Same languid style, never seemed ruffled, good passer, intelligent player.

Big Jock said it was one of footballs great tragedies, big George.Said Scotland would have built the National team around him for the following 10 years.

The answer to opponents thuggery is the same answer to all onfield problems.

My memory tells me that George Connelly was indeed 16 when he did his keepie-uppy exhibition, but I seem to remember it was against a Finnish team, Koaka Koala or something similar. We won 9-0.

After all these years, I may be wrong!

  13. Nir Biton .v. George Connelly:

Having seen both play – hard to make comparisons. Maybe its the similarities in; languid style, composure, effortless ability to move the ball around – who knows?

Nir has come on leaps and bounds (or should that be shimmies and pivots) this season – he has the air of a ‘traffic controller’ in our bustling midfield but IMO a long way to go before he can be classed as a playmaker. He needs to add goals to his repertoire. He was unlucky last night – ghosted into the box but was indecisive and missed the chance to score a ‘peach’ of a goal.

Playmakers create and score goals (see the following – in no particular order):

    Beckenbauer

    Del Piero

    Kaka

    Pirlo

    Riquelme

    Ronaldinho

    Socrates

    Valderrama

    Zico

    Zidane.

Note: this list is not exhaustive – apologies for any ‘greats’ I’ve missed!

Great result and performance from the hoops again last night, to think I was worried beforehand about us having to field without SA, SJ &GMS. Well done to everyone who played their part. I believe that we will see more of the same come Saturday.. one team trying to play total football and the other trying to kick opponents at will.

Fully expecting a handsome win for the hoops. Hail Hail RD

It was my first European tie!

Thought they were all going to be that easy!

Waterford a few weeks later disabused me of that notion!

    3-2, I think.

Perhaps an interesting slant to the ‘ Fish and Chips’ ,in Spanish you might guess that ‘a tun’ is tuna ,but I bet you would never think that Monkfish is ‘rape’! Always said English was a piece of cake

We are all entitled to our opinion but IMHO you are bang out of order when talking about George Connelly!

George played for several seasons at CFCS to a much higher standard than NB has so far managed

In that time he won player of the year which was a sign of just how good he was!

He had the ability to play passes of any length from short to long – a much wider range than NB has mastered

These passes were always perfectly weighted – I stood at the front of the old Jungle and saw George pass the ball 40 yards right on to wee Jinky’s foot with no need to do anything else to have the ball under complete control

He was my hero because he made the game look so simple. Who could ever forget the third goal against the dead Huns in the SCF in 1969?

Robbed big Greigy – waltzed past the keeper and stroked the ball elegantly in to the back of the net! In front of about 130K fans too!

When master Bitton has played a few full seasons you might have a debate but certainly not now!

Yes, it’s distasteful and disrespectful to a multi lingual proven coach, of the highest pedigree.

But the BBC, EPL, Manchester City, and especially Robbie Savage are distasteful, full stop.

Pelligrini when he inevitably moves on will come up in the world, beyond the obscene wealth that funds Manchester City out of their skins.

  22. As for Nir Bitton….

At only 23, he’s a good player. Technically sound, but scared of taking a pop at goal mind you.

On that basis, I think big Ki maybe slightly has the edge on him. Ki was also technically sound, but Ki could add goals.

I understand Bitton is playing as a sitting midfielder, but even last night in first half, he got ball 15 yards from goal, and elected to take another touch…. Chance lost.

Add shooting and goals, and big Nir will truly move in to the top class bracket

  23. Was accompanied by my other Bhoy last night and had a fantastic seat in the ole upper Main Stand. He’s only been on and off the past few years as his work commitments almost always clash with games. But he’s just asked me if it’s too late to get a ticket for Saturday as he enjoyed last nights entertainment so much.

Looks like an earlier than usual visit to CQN Corner – via the ticket office – on Saturday for me. But helps to evidence my own belief that it’s style of play rather than results that’ll get the folk flocking back to Celtic Park.
