UNSELFISH James Forrest is refusing to put pressure on Celtic as he hopes to earn a contract extension.
The evergreen winger, who will be 35 in July, is a free agent in two months’ time and has made it clear he wants to remain at the champions.
Scotland international Forrest has already had talks with the club and interim boss Martin O’Neill is supporting a new deal for the sprightly forward, as CQN reported yesterday.
The Hoops’ record holder of 26 honours and scorer of over 100 goals is eager to remain at his boyhood idols, but is prepared to take a back seat as the Parkhead club chase a league and Cup double with just six games to go in the crucial run-in.
Forrest said: “Hopefully I can be a part of that and stay another year.

UP FOR THE CUP…James Forrest in action against St Mirren.
“I’ve spoken to the club. I’ve been here for a long time and I don’t want to go anywhere else.
“It’s not a big discussion – I want to stay here.
“Hopefully, we’ll get it sorted out, but if it doesn’t, I’ll have no issue with that.”
Forrest, who has scored in each of the last 17 seasons, played a significant role as a substitute in the 6-2 Scottish Cup semi-final triumph over Falkirk at Hampden on Sunday when he set up the third goal for Kelechi Iheanacho in the first period of extra-time.
The fans’ favourite, speaking to the Glasgow Times, added: “I still feel as though I can contribute and help the team.
“The main thing now is helping the team win the league while we’ve also know got a Scottish Cup Final to look forward to.
“I’m concentrating on winning the league and the club; that’s the most important thing.
“It’s about what matters for the club at the moment.”
