FORREST SIGNS THREE YEAR DEAL

ON FORM winger James Forrest today signed a new three year contract at Celtic which will keep him at the club until 2019.

Forrest has been out of sorts over the past few seasons but with the arrival of Brendan Rodgers at the club that has all changed. Forrest was told early on by the Irishman that he would play a major role this season and that he was part of the long term plan for Celtic. CQN reported on this back in early July.

Forrest joined Celtic as a nine-years-old, having come through the Celtic Youth Academy, has already made 193 appearances, scoring 31 goals. Willie Wallace spoke to CQN a few years ago, saying that Forrest was the player he rated the highest at the club at that time.

Injuries, a loss of confidence and form have contributed to his progress stalling over the past few years but both Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila would select him whenever possible, as indeed Gordon Strachan has done for the national side.

His newly rediscovered form was evident at the weekend when he scored in the 2-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle.

Forrest is likely to play tonight in the League Cup encounter with Motherwell at Celtic Park alongside Tom Rogic who signed his new contract yesterday.

Forrest has come in for a fair amount of criticism from the support over the past few years. Hopefully that’s over and the player – who CQN revealed never wanted to leave Celtic, will go onto greater things, playing his part in the exciting Rodgers’ Revolution.
