Forrest’s long road back

465

The last thing James Forrest needed on returning to the first team after a lengthy injury absence is a two-week international break.  James needs games to deliver the match fitness that is simply not possible by training.  It could take him until the end of the season before he is at anything like his best.

John Kennedy will be keen to get James fit for the business end of the Scottish Cup, so I expect he will make substitute appearances in most games over the coming weeks, and perhaps a start on 3 April and play part of the game against Arbroath or Falkirk in the Cup itself.  The Cup is only a landmark, though, like the rest of his teammates, the priority for James is to be in peak condition for the summer’s Champions League qualifiers.

In terms of Sunday, it’s not often I say this, but I think the players owe us one.

  1. Why would you announce a new manager whilst this dreadful season is still being played out…& could get worse?

I know there are season ticket considerations, however, those in doubt will wait till the last minute anyway.

Will the lure of almost certain Champions League Group Qualification fire us up for what could otherwise be a ‘hangover’campaign?

I really don’t know – if 10iar couldn’t motivate the management & squad, what would?

Second in a two-horse race is last – this season is a bad last – I am not optimistic.

Reckon the odds on Kennedy getting the job might tumble after his comments yesterday:

“We’ve spoken collectively about it and won’t do it”

“this same group of players went in as champions and didn’t get the respect at that time”

Yeah – nothing says old firm more than copying what the other cheek does.

    It gets better though:

“Our motivation will purely be competing against our biggest rivals”

Biggest rivals????? A club who have been around for over 130 years and won over 100 trophies have a biggest rival a club that has been around for nine years and won one trophy?

Anyone expecting a progressive appointment and a European-facing future, forget it. It’s back to the past. Old firmery and regression, or rather further regression.

  5. Sevco were slight favourites with William Hill but this morning, we are.

Are Tims who like a bet becoming more confident or are Sevconian gamblers becoming more nervous ?

Uncle Tom or Quisling it matters not. The Ugly Sisters act on Snyde tonight was a sight to hear. The lack of focus on the real news was informative.

    21 fouls, 2 reds and 4 yellows.

    Outright assault on keeper.

    Just a side story.

    Real issue was racism.

    Really?

No introspection on why, for the first time this season, they didn’t get fouls, penalties or real goal chances. Difference, the referee.

But forget all that …someone said a bad word…on a football pitch.. Boo-boo!

    Not buying the racist crap.

Gerard said other players heard it, despite the fact it was whispered under cover of a hand. Bullshit.

Just massive deflection over bully boy tactics that were not allowed on this occasion but tactics that they are allowed over a long period of time domestically.

I have not heard one condemnation of the kung-fu kick. Only defense of the attacker as being unintentional. Again bullshit. Gerard sent him out to put the boot in, he did so emphatically. No apology, no concern.

Despite our own failings, I don’t think we stood a chance this season. Everyone’s card was marked. No penalties against, no fouls in dangerous areas. Bookings and cards galore for oppo. Highest award of penalties for. Swept away with the old “they attack the most”. How has that worked for us in the past?

Pissed of by those on here who took up Gerard’s racist clarion call. Followed that hare right to the finishing line. Have a look at yourselves. Doing there dirty work for your own moral appeasement. Makes me puke.

    Oh and hello everyone.

  9. Amazing how they can hear a whisper, but not up to their knees in fenian blood every week?

  10. Disappointed in big JK, but not surprised.

Everything we do from here on in should be done to put clear ” blooooo” water betrween us and them……

every opporunity to speak publicly should be used to revisit our founding principles and be used to get the Celtic Support onside. Every opportunity to talk about us is also an opportunity to NOT talk about thems…..

  11. A new manager won’t be appointed until a DoF is appointed and nor should it. What’s the point of a DoF if he isn’t going to have a major input into the coaching team?

  12. Those who were calling for Ralf Rangnik, it looks like he’s going to Schalke.

Seems Bundesliga 2 is a bigger pull than the SPFL, unfortunately.

  13. Wishaw Tim(?) @ 9.34

    When I sober up?

See, you can’t help yourself. Wee snyde dig. I still post more sense in my cups than you do when compus mentis. 😁

Can you confirm that every time Gerry posted you followed it with a wee snyde dig at him. In short trolled him?

The answer I can tell you is yes.

Did you celebrate when he eventually reacted?

I’d rather hear his Celtic and family stories than your nasty contributions. You are of course welcome to contribute but try and engage with people rather than provoke other posters. I’m sure you would were you face to face so please don’t hide behind a moniker and spout abusive, angry diatribe to fellow posters who use this place to connect with like-minded soul.

Anyhoo, is Collum the ref tomorrow?

    BANKIEBHOY1 @10.11

Straight to the point,no messing about.Goalkeeper was attacked, violent and thuggish behaviour, yet we are spoon-fed a lot of nonsense from a love in media. When the dust has settled, maybe keevins and the rest of the ‘journalist’s ‘ can furnish us,what ‘racist remark was made and, which language was used, and while they are at it,tell us about the corner boy behaviour from goldson,oh how the mask slipped the other night, when they were met by a better football side and a referee who officiated,in a competent and professional manner unlike the undesirable cretins we have on our own doorstep.

    Anti racist and STILL CELTIC

  15. I used to practise hitting shots at goal which were still rising as they went in, ideally off the underside of the bar, just like a Peter Lorimer thunderbolt.

I thought he was a wonderful player for Leeds and Scotland.

May he rest in peace with my fond memories.

    Good morning all

    Just a thought in respect of all the the column inches following the events of Thursday night;

    the fake outrage,

    the laughable fits of morality,

    the downright hypocrisy.

This is what our custodians have actively conspired to keep alive while thinking they humour us by saying “Glasgow Derby now and again.

Had we taken a different view there would be no Huns to worry about.

But Hey, We sure love That Blue Pound!!!

  17. Banda bing 10.15

    On ‘fenian blood etc’

There definitely seems to be a division in response by authorities, sport or gov, across the UK and beyond between skin colour racism and country/religion racism (as defined by various bodies as racism)

E.g. anti Irish/Catholic in Scotland and NI ; anti Jewish

Celtic, The Rangers, Hibs, Hearts and Spurs are the only examples i can think of in sport where a race/religion is attached by design or circumstance but all would be classed as white (in the majority of cases)

Skin colour racism is in the public eye all the time and various attempts are continually made to eradicate racism in this sphere

The attacks on Labour/Momentum over anti-semitism were clearly political and anti-semitism is rarely in the news in the UK (much more happening in US and Europe right now with the anti Soro conspiracies) but it is still there

Anti Catholic/Irish racism is seen as a local thing in NI/West Scotland to a lot of people in the rest of the UK so i think the Scot Gov has to step up

PS my wife (who i met in 1996 during the troubles) said i was lying about sectarianism in Scotland as it was only in NI . She is from Dublin and has zero interest in what happens in NI to this day.

James Forrest has contributed very little in champions leagues qualifiers over last 8 years

He has virtually started every one and has contributed to shambles that is Europe

He is of course best suited at home v lesser opposition and his goal stats and assists v the smaller spfl clubs is very impressive

He fails against better organised teams in Europe and Sevco

He is late twenties and past his peak

Time to move on and get a right winger who can compete at higher levels

    ………………

Contributes very little in CL qualifiers. Whit? Wee Jamesie? I seem to remember the Wee Man taking us through with a last minute goal against Kharagandy and also scoring a wonder goal against Rosenberg in Norway to take us through as well. James has been an excellent servant and player for Celtic. He even scored a heider whilst sitting on his erchie to show his full range of skills.

Let’s see if this gutless crew of non-triers that contrived to lose the league 2 games before the split can lift us with a win tomorrow. Don’t see it. 0-2. Would be 4 derby defeats in a row.

  21. prestonpans bhoys on

    Peterlatchfordbelly@21:27

I’m going the opposite view, agree about the gutless crew but after watching that pish poor mob play the other night, 20 points ahead and potentially 4iar games won. What would a potential buyer be thinking!

A EPL team, no chance more likely bottom of the championship😱

I don`t know Sydney Tim and don`t know what his experience is in football but I feel he is blinkered in his view of James Forrest. I rate jamesie very highly.
