Forster move has hurdles to overcome

169

There has been a bit of chat this week about Fraser Forster making his loan move to Celtic permanent.  While there is a chance this could happen, there are hurdles.  Not least is Fraser’s Southampton contract, which is in excess of the £70k per week reported this week.

The keeper is the highest paid player at St Mary’s and will enter the final year of his contract in June.  On the positive side, Southampton have made it clear they are keen to get him off their books, but I would temper expectations that Fraser would write-off millions of salary to come to Celtic.

Celtic and Southampton have worked through several transfers in recent seasons, including the loan deal for Mohamed Elyounoussi, so there is a possibility an accommodation on Fraser’s deal could be part of a wider package.

The major unknown is where Southampton will play their football next season and who will be making squad selection decisions.  They are currently three points from safety in a Premier League relegation spot.  Relegation is likely to increase their appetite to offload players who could not get into the current squad.

I reckon the latest Tax Case Squirrel has been released to magnify the “victim” narrative (if that is even possible) surrounding the Rangers group of clubs, and to whip up ra Peepil. Why? Well it is an attempt to create sympathy for Sevco, particularly in regard to upcoming payments that they will struggle to honour. Which payments? Take your pick – Ashley liability, Hummel, Elite Sports, Staff Wages, Close Bros, next months PAYE? Unknown?

Having created the narrative of having been “wronged”, resulting in original Rangers “demise”, any Court/Company/Individual* making a financial claim, that puts Sevco’s solvency in jeopardy, will face a barrage of press criticism, public hostility, and perhaps even “Social Unrest”.

While scoddland allowed him to put his shame at “arms length” there has been and will be no resolution to Scotland’s shame.

I’ve long advocated that in order to fix fitba’ the game needs a Truth and Reconciliation process akin to apartheid Sith Efrika.

If Scotland and Scottish Football is to save itself it needs to start with the kulprit. ( It won’t btw)

The hun mouth-breathers will lap up the latest guff but the idiocy and bear-faced arrogance of the “messaging” will be konveniently ingested and spread liberally around the country and further afield.

  6. Big Jimmy,

I would wager most of us at some point stayed in the pub with a valid ticket in our pocket.

But you make a very valid point about ill health and travelling from the city centre to Paradise.

Not everybody is able to make long walks to and from the ground. Even the walk from the nearest train stations is too much for some.

IMO, for the supporters who actually attend games, the inadequate transport is THE greatest concern that the club should tackle head on. Bar none.

    Especially at General Election time.

On this subject we are really at the back of the bus.

My thoughts exactly – but I’d add that this is a concerted effort to loosen fans’ purse strings one more time. Moral outrage – writ large in neon.

They’re circling the wagons big time. Everyone can see they’ve went ‘all in’ – there’s barbarians at the gates waving IOUs… But they just need a few months. Debt to share dilution. The ‘Let’s Go!’ vibe is extant. They’re in the chase. They’re in a final. These are all tangible feel goods.

They just have to stop folk looking under the bonnet for a few months. Just a few months.

    What narrative would facilitate that?

    What about… Ermmmmm…

What about – We didn’t DUPE! We were DUPED! By a faceless, nefarious, agenda driven government body, hellbent on destroying a quintessential British institution. By the way!

The lead up to both derbies will see new levels of Squirrel placement. A new King shall sit on the ‘victim’ throne – A narrative that re-writes all the previous dirty laundry the could never offload, and curiously will have the press pushing for our titles to get asterisked.

  8. About a year ago I wrote to Glasgow City Council regarding parking close to Celtic Park, never received a reply or so far, an invite to the public meeting to discuss.

    Dear Sirs,

This must the most poorly thought out scheme since the OBAF Act.

Given the lack of public transport to Celtic Park, how do you expect the fans like myself who have driven to the stadium, from well outside of Glasgow for over thirty years to get there?

The people of Glasgow who need to drive will be in no better position than we are.

Dalmarnock railway station is the closest to Celtic Park has a capacity of circa 250 on the platform, infrequent trains to Glasgow Central, no toilets, no shops, no wheelchair access. The bus services will never cope with an additional 5000 or more people who would normally park near to Celtic Park.

How exactly are we meant to get there?

If there are restrictions within one mile of the stadium, how will the people who live on the edge of that radius be affected as there will be a couple of thousand cars looking for additional parking spaces?

What about mobility impaired fans who will never be able to walk a mile or more likely a mile and half to the stadium?

What plans do you have to increase the levels of public transport to and from the stadium to the city centre on match days so that we can look at utilising public transport as the current capacity is woefully insufficient? In fact, is it not the case that Glasgow city council have stated that they have no plans to add additional transport to and from the stadium as it would cause more congestion!

Even the introduction of a car park, chargeable of match days would be a simple thing to do, there is plenty of dead space on Springfield Road which for minimum outlay could be converted to a match day car park even raising revenue for the council.

This legislation will lead only to hardship for many supporters with limited mobility and inconvenience thousands of tax payers in Glasgow who do nothing more than follow their football team.

To dress this up as a safety issue at this stage is beyond belief, if that was really the case why not implement it before the Commonwealth Games?

The local residents are already selling parking in their driveways for events at Celtic Park and at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome, this will only lead to more cowboy parking schemes in the area, on top of the existing ones.

This idea should be scrapped or at least postponed until there is a viable public transport option for the thousands that will be inconvenienced or have to stop supporting their team altogether as they are unable to walk the distances that will be involved when taking a car, which for many is their only option.

The notion expressed by one councillor that “Maybe they could support a more LOCAL” team sums up the complete stupidity of this scheme.

I would wish to be informed of the date and place of the hearing so I can be present to be heard in support of my objection.

    Sincerely,

    Big Jimmy,

    ………

As a younger and Fitter guy obviously walking to and from Celtic Park in several directions ( depending on where I lived, or what pub I was in… or going to) didnt really cause me any problems, although in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, when I was reasonably fit, I used to dislike the walk to and from Bairds Bar…especially if I was feeling a bit tipsy LOL !

In recent years and having health problems there was a dilemma for me anyway….as even walking to the game from Parkhead Cross was a wee bit of an ordeal, but more to the point, in those recent years I would be very concerned about how I was going to get home, or to a pub near my present home..even BEFORE I went to the Match.

I knew/know that in order for me to get a Bus or a taxi after a Match…I would have to leave the game early…but thousands of others have the same idea for one reason or another…to miss the Traffic etc. I have never been happy to leave any game early, but in years gone by, if I relied on a mate and his Car, I would have no choice but to leave early…the mate/driver would obviously make that decision for me.

In recent years and now living in the Calton…near the city centre, and given my long term health conditions….and now the most recent health problems with my ongoing illness and heart problem in the last few weeks, there is NO Way I could walk to and/or from Celtic park.

In the last season or Two, I have stayed til the end of a Match…and then slowly walked to a pub maybe at Parkhead cross, and had some beers before trying to get a taxi or bus to Glasgow Cross..after most of the crowd have dispersed….but as you will be aware…ANY Bar in and around Celtic Park before and after a game, is liable to be very busy and standing room only etc ?

Again, Pubs that are that busy are not suitable for me.

In any case…as things are at the moment ” Health wise”…Even if a Mate took me in his car and dropped me off and then picked me up right outside Celtic Park before and after a match…I would be spending half the match going back and forward to a toilet ! LOL

Hopefully, my health will improve some time soon…and I WILL be able to get to some matches..I do MISS it for the obvious reasons.

if I remember correctly, you sometimes have a few Beers near McCuills or Merchant City ? If I am correct…maybe you and I can have a few Beers and chat IF my health improves…but NOT on a match day.

I cant drink just now anyway due to being unwell and ALL the NEW medication that I am on ?

    Cheers Mate,

    and HH.

An excellent letter to GCC, just about sums up the whole shocking situation.

I would send it again, reminding them that you are a voter and Celtic fans in general have a vote.

Bringing it to the attention of the media at the AGM may not be a bad idea.
