News that Fraser Forster has signed a long term contract with Celtic, who will pay Newcastle United £2m for his services, adds some welcome stability ahead of the Champions League qualifiers. Buying a new, first-choice, keeper is fraught with the kind of difficulties Neil Lennon would rather avoid.
Last summer we looked at Croatian international Stipe Pletikosa, who performed at the European Championships, but he failed to impress during his trial period at Celtic, including a poor performance against Wolves at Celtic Park.
Last year we also looked at Polish cap, Gregorz Sandomierski, who subsequently went to Belgian club racing Genk for €3m, but he failed to make a competitive appearance for Genk and was shipped back to Poland on loan. By comparison, Forster, who turned 24 on St Patrick’s Day, cemented his place with the champions.
Last year Celtic concluded a provisional deal with Newcastle to sign Fraser on a permanent deal this summer but although player and club were both keen to do business, negotiations took until the end of the players’ summer break, perhaps reflecting a tightening of Celtic’s finances ahead of what could be a period of financial uncertainty in the Scottish game.

Paul 67 seen a picture of you over the weekend, had to look twice thought it was Paul Ferris the first time.
Good bit of business. The number of clean sheets last season is a testament of the defence including our keeper.

You should be able to get that info on Fallow Fallow.
And of course it will be tax exempt.

I think we might be taunted with a few ‘We hate Rangers more than you’ chants, not least from Mad Vlad’s mob, and not without some justification.
Have we ever had a dear debate?…HH
Great news

When the big man first arrived I have to confess to not being to impressed. However he has now won me over, the penalty save against Hearts appears to have been the turning point in his Celtic career. He has been impressive ever since and totally deserves his new contract. Well done big fella
If anyone has a few minutes if you go to the British Pathe website and type in Celtic it gives you access to a fair selection of clips from the ole days.
Lionsroar67,
Probably. A wee wave of excitement just washed over me when I saw a potential songs debate in the offing. That and a Celtic article bring back memories of CQN close seasons of yore.

It’s that sort of pig headed obstinacy that risks damaging the reputation of Celtic Football Club.
Times have changed, it’s time you got with the programme.

Delighted about big Fraser.
We lost only 22 league goals in 2010-11 and only 21 in 2011-12 with the big man between the sticks.
These were times when his outfield defenders were much maligned.
These stats are incredible – may be the best for any Celtic keeper over a 2 year league period?
Maybe our resident stattos like Gordon or WG could comment…..
Habemus Goalie!
Welcome back, big guy :-)
Son Of Gabriel,
you could try putting it in a bag of rice and leaving for a day or two. This worked for son’s phone.
On a Celtic note, glad to see big FF signed up. we know exactly what we’re getting, and i don’t think he’ll let us down.
2 or 3 more to come, CH and CF….I think we’ll be lucky, if we see that.

Great comment @11.42,its to the Scottish media’s eternal shame that they don’t print such common sense and perspective,16m unfounded though it may be,is paltry in terms of a league in this day n age, even double it and its still manageable long term, absolutely no reason why the sfa couldn’t resolve this unproven figure by asking UEFA for a long term loan given one clubs propensity for them on a more gross level.

According to Clyde , we are now going to lose 18 million from Scottish football if the CHEATS don’t get into SFL1.
You would think that if you are going to tell lies you would at least get your story straight .

given a little bit of good fortune, will we not make that amount ourselves just by reaching the CL group stages ?
An immediate tightening of Celtic finances it seems to be then. Would think it should still be possible to trim the deadwood and add one, hopefully 2 commanding centre backs and a centre forward with aerial ability.
Use the Seville money if we have to;)

Now that the Euros are finishred, I am so bored waiting on our own football kicking off.

I think we’re going to see ‘Youth’ get it’s chance more increasingly over the coming years, and i don’t have a problem with that.
We have some outstanding talent, which, if nurtured properly, and augmented by a prinkling of quality experienced players, could see a return to the old days.
Youth is the way forward for Scottish Fitba’ ( has been for years,) but due to the need to try to compete with a rival who cheated and stole from all around, we’ve had to shackle our Youth Development.
I’m so glad the huns are deid :-)

Fantastic news re Forster! I’ve always thought he was a very good keeper and he should, like a fine wine, get better over the coming years.
Just wanted to drop in and say a huge thank you to everyone helping to raise awareness of our wee Oscar’s appeal, and for organising various fundraising activities. I know there is a lot going on so honestly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
He is just starting high dose chemotherapy today which will go on for 5 days, followed by 2 days of having his stem cells re-infused (they were harvested some weeks ago). Then we wait a few weeks for him to recover. This is a very dangerous time for him. This chemo will really knock him for six, he will need to be tube fed and could end up in intensive care. There is a small chance of liver damage or even complete liver failure. BUT, he is a little trooper. He has faced this head on and smiled all the way through it. Im sure this will be the same.
Sorry I havent been on much but I barely have a minute these days with the fundraising campaign.
Keep er lit lads & lassies & i’ll talk to yas soon!!!
