FORSTER ‘TRANSFER TUG-OF-WAR’

CELTIC face a frantic transfer tug-of-war for Fraser Forster after it was claimed a top-flight English club are also interested in the keeper.

The Hoops fans’ favourite was a sensation for Neil Lennon’s men during his season-long loan switch from Southampton.

The nine-in-a-row champions are eager to get the one-time England international No.1 back at Parkhead, either on another temporary deal or in a permanent role.

However, the south coast club, in the middle of financial meltdown, are looking for a fee of around the £10million mark for the skyscraper shotstopper who still has two years of a lucrative deal still to run, as CQN reported yesterday.

That asking price – identical to the amount the Saints paid for the netminder in August 2014 – will be outwith Celtic’s reach plus his wages will also come into consideration.

Forster is clearly not in the English side’s future plans after dropping to third in the pecking order behind Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn in the battle for the gloves.

Now, according to a report in the Daily Record, an unnamed Premier League club have been impressed by Forster’s form in Glasgow where he helped the team to a Betfred League Cup success with an unbeatable display at Hampden in Dece, ber and also their ninth crown in a row.

Lennon is desperate for the 32-year-old to sign up for the tilt at 10 in a row.

Now the club face a waiting game while the players return to training on Thursday ahead of the Premiership kick-off on August 1.

The English clubs are likely to rubberstamp the transfer window being open from August through to October as they attempt to get back to business.
