FORSTER’S SILVER LINING

FRASER FORSTER has claimed his Man-of-the-Match performance in this season’s Betfred League Cup Final is the most satisfying display of his career

The England international keeper was simply unbeatable as he shut out Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox outfit at Hampden on December 8.

Christopher Jullien netted the encounter’s only goal on the hour mark when he swept in Ryan Christie’s inviting left-wing free-kick.

Three minutes later, the Hoops were reduced to 10 men when referee Willie Collum adjudged Jeremie Frimpong had illegally impeded Alfredo Morelos, produced a swift red card for the Dutch teenager and awarded the Govan side a penalty-kick.

However, Forster dived to his right to beat away the Colombian striker’s effort as the Parkhead men went on to win their tenth successive piece of domestic silverware.

NO WAY THROUGH…Fraser Forster dives to beat away Alfredo Morelos’ penalty-kick in the Betfred League Cup Final triumph.

The 32-year-old skyscraper shotstopper, who is due to come to the end of his season-long loan deal from Southampton in June, made the revelation during an Instagram Q&A with supporters.

Forster also named the penalty save from Morelos as one of his two favourites spot-kick stops of his career, with the other being against Liverpool at Anfield.

He also named skipper Scott Brown, back-up goalie Scott Bain and Australian winger Daniel Arzani, who is also coming to the conclusion of a temporary switch from Manchester City, as the team-mates he would choose as company during an extended lockdown.

Forster is under contract to the south coast team until June 2022.
