France spotlight and following up with more young Les Bleus for Celtic

244

What a football fan wants most from the World Cup final is a clear and worthy winner.  Instead, there is a feeling that everything that could have gone wrong for Croatia, did so.  They attacked more, were on the receiving end of a very unfortunate penalty, put the ball into their own net and will forever live with the sense of what could have been.

France eased their way to the trophy throughout the tournament without being spectacular.  Their 2-0 quarter-final win over Uruguay and yesterdays’ final were the only occasions they won a game by more than a single goal.

The more interesting element of France’s development as a football powerhouse is what didn’t happen at Russia.  The legacy of Guy Roux, who educated the nation on how to develop natural young talent into tier one achievers, fills every top league in Europe today.  Celtic’s young Les Bleus are a remarkable example of this.

The win will turn the spotlight onto French football, as a consequence, following up on the signing of Dembele, Ntcham and Eduard will be more difficult.  Let’s hope that the wealthy in England are fully focussed on taking advantage of the obvious superiority of the English academy system.

Wished I had known you watched the match in the Parlour last week as could have hooked up for a few.

Took the big American mate and he wanted to watch it in Dempseys. About 20 watching as on at 12 and obviously a work day.

Likely to be in Monterey for Wed leg. Struggling to find a place to watch it. Anybody familiar with Celtic bars in vicinity??

I know and have been to the one in San Francisco before.

  8. GERRYFAETHEBRIG i think he has the ability to push himself into our team, the fact that sinc, forrest, morgan and hayes are older means jack to me.

He has shite load of talent and we have space for those types of players

Give me a johnston over a hayes any day of the week

    Never been to Paris chief.

Stayed in France two summers in a row with a French family – one of those children of the conflict programmes.

Caudan was the name of the place.

They didn’t speak any English and I didn’t really eat any of the food, but it was brilliant.

Can’t remember how old I was, must have been about a primary 7, but was able to walk into the local shop on my and buy a box of beer.

Yer woman went nuts and told them not to sell me anymore drink. She was a genuine Saint though to be honest.

Fond memories of the old France. ??

Also think MJ has got the talent but game time in the first 11 will be at a premium if BR thinks the bhoy will learn more at St Mirren (if he ends up there) I think it would be more beneficial for him… I would loan out the majority of our kids, playing week in week out is far more important than picking up trophy after trophy as kids (just my opinion :-) if Mikey Johnstone stays and gets a first team jersey on merit I would be as delighted as you

Thecelt45…ever been to Maracaibo? Went to a party there once (and once only). Host asked me for my gun, for safekeeping. Told him I didn’t have one. Looked at me as though I was daft…

Ta for replies re New York, interesring wee chat started now, back to the fitba, i think Sinclair might get sold this window…..Brighton, Bournemouth interested seemingly, Morgan and Johnstone might be required ….

Never got posted down that neck of the woods. However a really good friend and his family were there for several years (Caracas), they went everywhere with an armed driver and escort. Wild place.

what price is being quoted for SS?

If we got 7 miilion for Armstrong, I would think the price for Sinclair would be quite a bit higher. I would be okay with anything over 10 million for him.

16Roads…France is beautiful. Paris can be tough if you don’t speak some French. Arrogance abounds… :-(

Bada Bing…re Andy Murray…he def deserved some local recognition, it was ok I suppose. It was the others who came afterwards and wanted the same thing…could only be done once…

Just off out to post a letter in my red and black post-box…dugs will have a pee against it…good job it’s not gold… :-)

I was first in Belfast as a wean at the height of The Troubles. It was July and the Loyalist flags scared me and my mammy as my dad drove through Belfast towards Sligo. Belfast scared me as place as a 10 year old. 43 years later I have grown to love Belfast and it’s beautiful people.
