Fraught preseason, instinct ruling head

657

Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July.  Preseason is already looking fraught.

I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost.  I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up.  Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.

Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either.  It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league.  Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.

If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club.  When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field.  Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround.  My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Very last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle, which takes place on Saturday 13 June in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  If you’re up for it, sign up here…..

Zbyszek, loved your post at 22.08. Canamalar can be a bit of an Advocaat.

    Hope you’re well.

If ever there was a case when the nation state and its people should be differentiated when analysing them perhaps it’s russia?

What other state killed, maimed and plundered its own populace more than 20C russia?

What people savrificed more for the nation state than the Russians?

Ergo it’s complicated. Still more so in inter-state history.

Your comments smack of lazy journalism. Ironic really.

As for your comments towards Zbysek I think they’re rude and out of order. The more so given how glibly you skim over the traumas his family endured.

  3. Ger57,

As they have with each other and the UK and USA who allowed them to be annexed, a wee bit not advertised is that as soon as they were declared a state 1918 their first action was expansionism by force, the Ukraine being one of their first targets. So it’s a bit rich to be claiming other expansionists were worse, what does that mean ?

  4. Im Tipping Newcastle to beat West Ham, just putting it out there so i can say i told you so, like the supercillious prick i am©SFTB..laughing…

If those pesky Russians had lost the battle of Stalingrad there’d be no D-Day

America found Nazism not too distasteful. Still don’t. D-Day was to stop the Soviet Union taking over all of Europe. This was the germ of Americas domino theory that went on to destroy Korea and Vietnam. However, the Iraq invasion was simply oil driven. Somewhat skin to democracy and freedom in Ukraine like America gives a rats vagina about.

  6. jg,

Any time we have this argument Z’s first stop is to remind me what his family suffered, that has never been questioned however I completely fail to see the relevance to the discussion and consider it obfuscation that ignores the points of the argument and attempts to drum up sympathy, every time, it works though eh

I worked in Kazakhstan for two years for an American company. The American guys were terrified the first time they went there, they still had an ignorance of “the dead bear empire”. They were pleasantly surprised to be warmly welcomed by the Khazah’s who showed nothing but contempt for their Russian neighbours and ex bully boy masters.

I quite liked my time there. I’ve never seen a donkey in the back seat of a car since the day I finished there. Seemed to be a common mode of donkey transportation but funny every time you saw it_)

Russia is like the hun, full of grand delusion of what they could have been, then they ceased to be significant.

Now it’s back to the bully boy tactics. The sooner Putin gets taken out or dies of natural causes the better.

The Russian people and their close border neighbours deserve better than this megalomaniac has to offer.

Anybody remember where I placed a box of green balloons? I bought 1000 for our abortive trip to Barcalona in 2013. Only took half with me and seem to have misplaced the rest, I could do wi them for Sunday.

Margaret McGill, I hope you’re wrong about the destruction of Vietnam. Miss ACGR is visiting there soon. Should I save her (my) money and tell her it’s no longer there?

  15. jg,

He made up story’s, then ended with a grab for sympathy, which you’ve obviously taken hook line and sinker as far as I’m concerned.

I supposedly got banned for calling him a prick, do you remember me getting banned for that ?

I personally don’t trust him one little bit. Especially after the Legia cheating huff and the continued bleating about it.

JG, he’s deid, the only outside entities who takes over my body are Mrs acgr and Mr Dram:_)

Maggie Doll, you should know better, yer wee bro wid. Anyway, I’m heading to Cambodia next month, has it been destroyed too and have I wasted my money?

Mags, I was looking forward to eating a bit of cat and dug again. It’s been along time since I’ve been in that region and I’m looking forward to someone else woking my dog.

I’m partial to a bit of fried cat, boiled cat, roasted and tasted cat (please don’t start that debate). I’m not too keen on the rice that they serve with the cooked canine / feline dishes though. They give me wind. Bauuaarrrrrrrrrrrrp.

    That’s better.

This is my last comment cos I was up at 4 so should be in bed.

No I don’t remember you saying that.

I thought Z’s handling of the Legia situation was pretty classy given how much hurt and angst it must have caused him.

And you banging on about him vis a vis a technical breach seems akin to a Vienna punter giving it GIRUY to a Tim over a bottle that was once thrown onto a pitch.

My favourite phrase in the whole world? ‘peace be with you…..and also with you.’

My Countrymen are poor in their understanding of your and my (as a guest in your country’s) reality. I’m not sure if that can be changed. Suspect not. But you Mr Z are a prince among men. Don’t let any of them persuade you otherwise.

Zbyszek, you have nothing to prove here. Most of us understand the post war trauma your people were subjected to. You show incredible restraint when attacked by arrogant twats on this Celtic blog, as you did when your team were removed from the CL to Celtic’s benefit. BTW, I have no issue with your team playing that one stupidly or Celtic being cute.

Please don’t be driven off by self same arrogant twats.

  24. Warszawabhoy , ACGR thank you both and thank you all for support. I promised myself to give the story up, but when the poster decided to continue – telling that he haf never been banned, we argued before the resolution I decided to put the link with the evidence at 0:32. As I said, end of the story. I never argued with that poster, never will be. It would be utter stupidity to let be driven off taking these circumstances into account,

  25. I thought the conflict in the Ukraine had minority nationalism at it’s core along with a big American stick and Putin taking the offered opportunity to deflect from his own concerns at home and the investigations into his purported wealth. Oh and oil and gas revenues.

  26. More important points first

Zbyszek- you made your points well and you have a lot of support here

Canamalar- Yes there are fascists in the Ukraine, and Yes, America and Europe are happy to bring former Soviet satellite states into their orbit of influence. But this ain’t no Cold War re-run.

Not one former Soviet satellite state, won as the spoils of war, will vote to re-unite with Mother Russia, even though, they used plantation population policies in the Baltic states Ukraine, Chechnya and Kazakhstan to try and keep a strong garrison.

This is not communism vs fascism or socialism vs fascism. Putin is every bit as much inclined to fascism as the Ukrainian Right. Don’t reduce this to simplistic sloganising! The position on the ground is far too complex for that.

If forced to choose between a stark choice of living in a Fox News run America or a Soviet state, I’d chose Fox News America every day of the week. Praising the Russians for winning WW2 does not excuse or condone their post war behaviour.

Goodnight Celtic men and wummin and especially to my pal Davie, Oldtim. I hope you are faring well tonight and I hope to see you soon.

    Hail Hail Oldtim

  28. A Ceiler Gonof Rust, I like Zbyszek, never met him but phoned him on a couple of occasions and shared confidences which he held true to. A measure of the man.

I’ve read his posts over the years with interest but have noticed that they generally revolve around a specific period in time, never once has he alluded to the atrocities that Poland committed during, and out with, that particular period.

Poland’s atrocities are glossed over, never mentioned, likewise so many other countries inhumanity and hate crimes. I just think that none of us, none of our nations, not a single one, is without sin, yet we attack with venom another’s understanding whiles conveniently neglecting to balance our attack with an honest and transparent appreciation and admission of our own guilts.

I’ve seen it done so many times on here, done it myself.

  29. warszawabhoy on

    Zbyszek,

Please don’t argue with any of these guys on these subjects. They believe their understanding is relevant. That’s based on idealogy but no experience. You know better. Warszavvy.

  30. There you are now, forgot all about that, there can’t be many on here banned for calling someone a prick, would love to see the rest of the links too.
