Fraught preseason, instinct ruling head

657

Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July.  Preseason is already looking fraught.

I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost.  I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up.  Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.

Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either.  It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league.  Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.

If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club.  When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field.  Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround.  My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Very last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle, which takes place on Saturday 13 June in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  If you’re up for it, sign up here…..

Even in the closest family unit, there is room for different opinions. Life would be very dull indeed if we all agreed on things.

However, life would be just peachy if we had nothing to disagree about!

  3. Margaret McGill @00.04,

You’ve just proven my point: you don’t know (or affect not to know) about the Hitler-Stalin Pact. If Stalin’s Soviet Union hadn’t given Hitler the green light to start his War, neither Stalingrad nor D-Day would have been necessary. BTW it’s news to me that Korea has been destroyed.

TD – not so shocking mate. The girl left school with the minimum to gain entry to medical school. However, there will be many in front of her who will have far better results because Medicine is one of the most competitive courses at Yooni. This is a typical Daily Record human interest story. But that’s all it is – a story. She did some additional work and now has an offer from Aberdeen. Good for her – I hope she makes it.

I stopped posting earlier this year as I got fed up with the early skirmishes in the election. One poster who seemed to do nothing but regurgitate Scottish Labour pamphlets mixed in with his own odd rather right wing views in particular annoyed me sufficiently to walk. He does not post anymore.

Rather too much name calling amidst the more illuminating non Celtic chat – not least in the last 18 hours- but still seems a pretty good place overall.

I agree mate. I think she has been too quick off the mark to condemn Celtic fans. Tynecastle is full of bigots – she is very selective over what she comments on. If she comes out with the same crap next season when we play them, then I hope Celtic take her to task publicly. The statement issued last time around by Celtic was a measured response and very neutral. She seems to think her own scheiße doen’t stink. She couldn’t be more wrong.

I agree with !!Bada Bing!! 100% here. I enjoy the blog but have thought of chucking it a few times and certainly use it less than I used to mainly because of the personal attacks I see. More tolerance and an attempt to debate in an adult manner would help with that IMHO.

    =======================

I usually manage to get a ticket outside Easter Road and/or Tynecastle when we play there.

One time I could only get one for the Hearts end, never do that again, they are worse than their Govan cousins, the well heeled were the worst.

    Beat them 0-2 though.

  16. Thought that the little general might have had a point in that, he might have beaten Porto in Seville if, he was Celtic’s manager.

Also hold the opinion that, Martin got the tactics wrong in Seville.

On our return from Boavista – Beachball Sunday – Celtic were going through a period were, we couldny beat the huns while we played 3 at the back so, Martin told the players….5 mins before kick-off at the Orcdome that, we’d be playing 4 – 4 – 2 with a flat back 4 ie: a back 4 that didny charge up the pitch and leave spaces for the huns front 3 to exploit.

We won 1-2 on the day and, struck a blow for the underdogs in the Broomloan Stand. It was one of the best days of my Celtic supporting life.

I thought that…going to Seville for final that, the Beachball-Sunday tactics would be deployed ie: Agathe and, Thommo wouldn’t be asked to charge up and down the flanks, especially in that heat.

But no, 3 – 5 – 2 it was and, our dreams were ripped apart by a, diving, cheating, theatrical performance from the Porto players but, I still think…we should have parked the bus…like, Beachball-Sunday…and, took our chances.

Martin O’Neill and the Seville team thank you for taking the Celtic-gig back onto the world stage again.

LOL! Why do you say so mate? Celtic won the league this year because we were the best team in the competition. Should we have put “Aberdeen” at the top even though we won more points just to be “fair”? I better shut up here – don;t want to be giving the SFA any ideas… :-))

Not being a religious person is not an issue……being selfish, nasty or offensive etc is down to the individual ……. and for you to apologise for this type of behaviour would, indeed, be pointless since you don’t really care about hurting anyone’s feelings……. heaven forbid that your reason for this ‘behaviour’ would be, specifically, to hurt people’s feelings ……. some of your points (not many though :) ) are quite good, but you need to work on certain areas…?

Correct. You just beat me to it.

Also, the article states that just over 12% of people from deprived areas make it to medical schools.

Why should that be suspect? It is clear that kids from deprived areas are going to be less likely to achieve the grades required for med school, for obvious reasons.

It doesn’t take a genious to work that out.
