Fraught preseason, instinct ruling head

657

Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July.  Preseason is already looking fraught.

I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost.  I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up.  Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.

Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either.  It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league.  Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.

If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club.  When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field.  Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround.  My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Very last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle, which takes place on Saturday 13 June in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  If you’re up for it, sign up here…..

You think Matthews is better than Lustig?

God, you`re a blinkered ignoramus who should not be allowed on here.

    Yorkbhoy Ya Muppet!

During the average of 6 games that Lustig is fit for each season he’s clearly the better player and the 4th most important guy in the team.

Glad you posted that! I thought my `joke` would have been spoiled with the addition of a 0:-) but I have been worried since in case Yorkbhoy thought I was being serious! Your timely support means I can now fall asleep when I sit out in the sun…..which i am about to do now.

Oh, my usual one more post after saying `cheerio`. Maybe Anne Budge has commented on the behaviour of other teams` supporters and maybe the MSSM have decided not to print her comments.

    Bad pupils,mate. Sad but true.

General standards in poorer areas are low. Teachers are faced with the choice of trying to teach the bright pupils to their maximum or the not so bright to at least a bare minimum.

As GSH said, choices have to be made.

    ———————————————————-

That’s certainly a factor. I’ve a few friends who are teachers/head teachers and they all have stories to tell about trying to keep basic order in some places, never mind being able to actually teach anything.

I think the point is that universities should be looking to recruit potential rather than achievement.

    That’s just ridiculous.

I’m sorry, but it’s hardly a controversial point, never mind a party political one, to say that universities should recruit potential rather than achievement.

It’s what the universities themselves say.

  18. My son is a teacher. He’s recently moved from primary to secondary teaching.

The primary class he had contained FOUR kids with ADHD and one who had been excluded from other schools due to his uncontrollable rages, they were put in my sons class due to him being a man basically.

Some kids could barely communicate, some could not use the toilets properly, many had no skills when it came to using cutlery.

This is why Sure Start is so valuable, these kids need rescued from their parents influence as early as possible, Sure Start also educates the parents btw.

  19. For I think the fourth night in a row, I found the night shift here distasteful. Maybe guys are posting when blootered but it is to say the least disappointing. When you have a Polish lad who really gets Celtic getting a hard time over his political views on a Celtic site, it makes you question a lot of things. Poland is probably the most vandalised Country in Europe, between the Nazi’s and the Russians it has suffered appalling abuses. There is a clear need for a sympathetic understanding of Mr. Z’s position. I also feel posters calling Legia cheats are either trolls or fools. They made an extremely silly administrative error which gave them no advantage and didn’t effect the result in the slightest. Those of us who follow Celtic understand what its like to be cheated and have a true understanding of “sporting integrity”. Having a Legia/Celtic supporter taunted by a poster calling Legia cheats on this Celtic site, quite frankly made me feel sick.

  22. If your good at your job and have street smart, and are willing to go that extra mile to help the not so fast learners, you should be able to teach any where, good teachers are so very hard to come by, it’s a vocation and not an easy job, but kids know when you are trying to help on that I can attest to, I had more zoomers a than good ones, but the good ones got my respect, the zoomers didn’t last long, reason? They didn’t have it in them to teach, it was a job and that was that, half of them spent the day giving people the belt, what was that all about? Oh yes and the other old stand by, ok if the person who did that doesent stand up, the whole class is going to get the belt, most of my clas used to line up for the belt, me? Like f… I did hated so many teachers and liked very few, but as I said the ones I did like where good and where willing to listen and help you.

I would love to be a teacher. If I won £1m on the lottery tomorrow I would go to University and become a teacher.

I can understand your sons frustrations. I think that a large part of parenting skills are teaching your children the basics. I don;t believe this is being done. I would love to be part of that and try and impart the knowledge on. I think teachers are some of the most important people in this country. If you want to know what the next generation are going to be like then look at parents and teachers.

It’s a tough gig being a teacher hope your son is enjoying it.

I have friends and relatives that are teachers and the biggest difference between school then and now is parents. If I went home from school and said I had been belted I would have been told I deserved it. Now parents are up at schools intimidating teachers on the word of their kids.
