Fraught preseason, instinct ruling head

Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July.  Preseason is already looking fraught.

I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost.  I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up.  Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.

Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either.  It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league.  Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.

If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club.  When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field.  Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround.  My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Very last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle, which takes place on Saturday 13 June in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  If you’re up for it, sign up here…..

That zombie outfit are a woefully poor side.

Hibs are the better football team, however they are notorious bottle merchants.

It’s anybodies guess which club will be eliminated.

Leave well enough alone would be my advice, although the 9/4 about a Hibs victory on Wednesday is tempting.

  2. I see the “Celtic want Rangers back” Brigade are out in force.

So Rangers beat QOS, yet another game that does not involve Celtic, but it’s still Peter Lawwell’s fault.

    The fearties are back.

  3. There has been a constant barrage of propaganda – Scottish football needs a strong Rangers – with everyone being asked for their opinion and almost everyone, including Celtic players past and present, saying the SPFL needs the Zombies. Even if the referee is not pro-Hun, he will be affected by all this. It will have got into his sub-conscious. That is why I expect the Zombies to

  10. Time for Change –

When Rangers scored yesterday, QOS players claimed for offside. The commentator also mentioned the possibility of a hand ball.

The slow motion replay showed there was no offside. Another replay from a different angle then proved that the Rangers man played the ball down with his chest. Absolutely nowhere near a hand ball.

So, can you enlighten me about why the goal yesterday should not have stood?

I hope you don’t mind me posting the link again, especially for those who attended the Belfast hootenanny and might have missed your earlier post.

Hopefully the Dublin Hootenanny will be every bit as enjoyable

Tom if the offside rule is a part of the body that can score then a head and foot is offside….agree no handball….other mistake was lead up to free kick in first game and subsequent goal….

  16. Tom…

Although I wouldn’t want the bassas to win an egg and spoon race, I saw it the same way as yourself.

I’m not one for conspiracies etc, but on the way home there in the car there was a report on radio Scotland about companies and the “living wage”.

In the whole report one company was named, one only, in Scotland as an example of a company that didn’t pay the minimum wage.

I think you boys may have a point!

Oh, by the way, did I say it was Celtic that was mentioned?

A couple of years ago..Galatasaray fans wanted their club to complain to UEFA

that when Inter Milan came to town they had crosses on their strips. The bigoted claim from the turks was that Inter Milan were flouting their Christianity to a bunch of muslims. If one were to extrapolate and make an analogy to current day Scotland and Celtic supporters its as if the Turkish govt agreed with the Galatasaray fans.
