Freaky seven goal Europeans

699
Seven goal scores are remarkably scarce in football but for the second time this month we look ahead to a Champions League opponent who has recently scored that number in a single game.  Helsingborgs went to town on Swedish Allsvenskan side Kalmar yesterday.  Kalmar are struggling in the league this season but were faring better in Europe until Young Boys of Berne overturned a Europa League deficit against them on Thursday.

Form appears to vary widely in the Swedish league, not idea circumstances for placing a bet.

Midweek friendly internationals will not help Neil Lennon’s preparations as Celtic face the third of five games on the road in the Highlands on Saturday before heading to Sweden, especially as the early season injury count rises inexplicably.  I would caution against risking too much on a bet on the Ross County game for this reason.  County’s remarkably year-long run without a league defeat might stretch another week.

The first issue of CQN Magazine of the new season is due to be with you soon.  If you would like to contribute an article to a future edition let me know, articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk.  Final shout also for anyone who would like to advertise to the same address.

  1. LAST Saturday, Celtic played Real Madrid in Philadelphia as part of the 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge. The meeting between the Scottish and Spanish champions at Lincoln Financial Field attracted a large crowd at the stadium, as well as a worldwide TV audience.

Demonstrating the charitable roots of the club, the Celtic squad on the day wore Hoops shirts incorporating the logo of leading humanitarian charity, Concern Worldwide.

Through Celtic Charity Fund, these unique shirts are now being auctioned to support the work of Concern, giving fans across the globe an opportunity to play their part while bidding on wonderful pieces of memorabilia.

Each shirt has been personally signed by the individual player concerned, putting the items into the collectors’ category.

The shirt auction will open at 9am (UK time) tomorrow – Wednesday, August 15 – and will close at 8pm (UK time) on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. You can place your bids from 9am tomorrow at http://www.celticcharityfund.org.uk/auctions/auctionindex

  2. I don’t like flying on Easyjet because of their orange decor.

Not because of politics, but because it is so garish, that it’s migraine inducing. Fortunately I don’t get migraines.

I wouldn’t go as far as boycotting them.

  3. Re the Green sweeties, lest ye forget, green straws, eggs benedict, the price of Christmas lunches……it’s inherent….

And if the team in division 3 are the same, why is there no penalty for still being in administration!

  4. Does anyone have any spare tickets for the Ross County match.

1 would be good , 2 would be great?

    Dubai boy (earlier)

You being extremely economical with the truth by saying you were ‘attacked for being too Scottish and not Irish enough’.

I do recall you being attacked for being a complete ponce(I’m being kind there) of the highest order when you said that if Celtic were to bring out a tricolour strip as a 3rd kit that it would be ‘pandering to the lowest common denominator amongst the support’.

So lets not get too selective about what we remember about previous conversations or think that you can play the victim card without being challenged. Unless you’re talking about a different conversation to the one I am, you were attacked not for being too Scottish but for being a complete bellend and making comments, such as the one above and others, more befitting of a hun.

    Poor little Dubai boy.

Get your facts right then maybe you’ll be respected a bit more when you consider yourself the victim of perceived injustice.

    Fool.

Logically, given the absence of Kenny Miller, Levein should be considering a call up for Carlo Monti.

Just turned 22 years old, and has scored 16 goals in 14 starts since signing for Pollok from Drumchapel Utd Ams in March this year.

Why stop at the 3rd division after all? Many followers of Junior football will attest to the standard being higher than the lower divisions of the Senior league.

Levein could open up a whole new lode of rich talent. Genius I tells yeh.

Is that you back from your holidays?

No pressure, but have you had a chance to pore over the joint SFA/SPL/SEVCO press statement of July 27 yet?

It could be that they were in a hurry, but I think it’s the lowest-quality document to have emerged in the whole affair, which is really saying something.

Who decided Sevco were allowed to become new owners of Rangers?

Who decided which bits of Rangers they were to keep and which bits they were allowed to shed?

What criteria did they use to decide?

Why did the date of the transfer ban change?

What reassurances have the football authorities received that Sevco are fit and proper and have the wherewithal to see out the season?

What is the rationale behind temporary membership of the SFA?

The document presents these things as faits accomplits, but explains absolutely nothing. How would you explain it all?

    Thanks in advance.

Is that the Carlo Monti who was a youth player at Celtic a few years ago. If so, that’s your answer why he won’t get a call up.

If, however, he made the move from the juniors to the 3rd division, he’d be a shoe in for a cap.

Sadly, I’m still on holiday… heading up to the Parque Natural de Tamadaba now for some gentle walking, spectacular views and maybe stumble across a deserted beach for a wee swim following some Tapas for lunch should the chance arise.

It’s a tough pitch I know, but one of us has to do it, and heck, I’m all altruism these days :¬)

  12. Dunno what all the fuss is about Ian Blacks call up, no one is really suggesting its because he plays for deadclub are they? as Houston says, no matter what Division your playing in if your playing well your in with a shout, that in itself may cause contractual problems tho, how will the builders labourers, postmen, bin men and other part time players manage to get time off when theyre called up?

  13. Not eating green sweets – Andy Gray, ex Sky and now Talksport Radio, has often boasted that growing up as a good little Rangers supporter he never ate penguin bars with green wrappers. Isn’t it reassuring to have a Scottish sports media figure who isn’t remotely petty or bias and whose objectivity can be completely relied upon.

  16. Peter James (14) a pupil at Bellarmine Academy has withdrawn from the Scotland Squad to face Australia on Wednesday, Peter spoke exclusively to SSN

“Id love to have played but Im back at School on Thursday and my Ma says Ive to have a bath, get my uniform ironed and be in bed early”

  17. TBB, fair enough. Maybe they were waiting for you to leave Scotland before sneaking their rubbishy statement into the public domain.

The paucity of people flagging up how terrible the document is alarms me.

Bit harsh on Dubaibhoy there. He obviously feels that as a Scotland fan, he is “attacked” (his words) on here. Without wanting to get into any kind of ‘Scotland team’ debate – I can see why he might feel like that. A lot of Celtic fans on here seem to go out of their way to make the point about how little they care about the Scotland team. (And… with ian black on board – I can see myself going the same way unfortunately). Whether they (we) do that or not, and whether fans are ‘anti-Scotland team’ or not – it is certainly dubaibhoy’s perception – and as i am repeatedly reminded at work – perception is reality unfortunately.

  20. Di Canio still a nut job I see.

Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio says he dropped Paul Caddis as captain because the defender’s attitude changed.

The 24-year-old skippered the side to the League Two title last season but was told on Friday he was to be replaced by Alan McCormack.

“He’s not the same player, not the same attitude, so it’s time to make the decision,” Di Canio told BBC Wiltshire.

“Now is the moment to change and send an important signal to everybody because Di Canio is the same.”

The Town manager made a similar U-turn over the appointment of his skipper last season, when midfielder Oliver Risser was initially given the armband, only for it to be then handed over to then vice-captain Caddis three months later.

    Just read that RM post.

It is so eloquently written, including impeccable spelling and perfect punctuation, that it led me think that it could have come from Bummer Brown!

On closer inspection as there were no mentions of – ‘A want tae see the deeds’, or ‘We buy the pies’, I concluded that it could not be him.

  24. Is it just my crazy paranoic mind set or is there something nefarious at work on that Saints & Scroungers prog?

The first opening frame of the prog was that wee baldy gnome “Dom” standing telling us about benefits scroungers along the lines of the good and evil narrative of the prog…with the City of London skyline directly in the background! Subliminal conditioning techniques? Is it a way for the establishment to deflect blame from the City/Bankers onto the benefits scroungers by using associative psychology…from now on every time I see the city of London skyline I’ll think of all those benefits scroungers!

Have I been boosting the rockets with too much astro traveller or is this how they operate…after all why would the BBC put such a sensationalistic prog on based on black and white morality without their being some agenda behind it?

  25. Reading that Marseille have confirmed that they must sell and reduce their wage bill. When you consider the dire finances of the Spanish clubs as well, if we keep this team together it might just be able to something decent in Europe over the coming seasons.

The occasion I am talking about he wasn’t attacked for being too Scottish, which is what he said last night. He was attacked for some moronic comments after someone posted a link to a possible new 3rd kit, not because he didn’t like the style which would have been fine but because it happened to resemble the colours of the Irish flag.

If he was referring to a different conversation where he WAS attacked for being too Scottish then I’m sure he can clarify that.

Otherwise, he’s a liar and playing the victim card over this is quite pathetic.
