Freaky seven goal Europeans

699
Seven goal scores are remarkably scarce in football but for the second time this month we look ahead to a Champions League opponent who has recently scored that number in a single game.  Helsingborgs went to town on Swedish Allsvenskan side Kalmar yesterday.  Kalmar are struggling in the league this season but were faring better in Europe until Young Boys of Berne overturned a Europa League deficit against them on Thursday.

Form appears to vary widely in the Swedish league, not idea circumstances for placing a bet.

Midweek friendly internationals will not help Neil Lennon’s preparations as Celtic face the third of five games on the road in the Highlands on Saturday before heading to Sweden, especially as the early season injury count rises inexplicably.  I would caution against risking too much on a bet on the Ross County game for this reason.  County’s remarkably year-long run without a league defeat might stretch another week.

The first issue of CQN Magazine of the new season is due to be with you soon.  If you would like to contribute an article to a future edition let me know, articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk.  Final shout also for anyone who would like to advertise to the same address.

I’m a little bit confused about the “we’re still Rankers, we’ve still got out history etc.” argument coming from Rankers and their pet journos. Charlie Green wants to spin this to attract the knuckle draggers, but if he does this isn’t he saying to HMRC we’re the same club, with the same badge and same vile history we’ve just phoenixed to avoid taxes and debt, and won’t HMRC say fair enough, pay your debts?

    ===================================

I have a new mantra for summing up the situation – hardly rocket science but it’s my level of intellect and saves hours of explaining to stupid Orcs and people who follow other leagues who canny be bothered listening:

Want to be Rangers? Pay your back taxes and pay every penny of debt you owe.

Don’t want to pay it all back? Then you canny be rangers.

    Simples.

He mentioned settling up for Lee Wallace. This was innacurate. Rangers (Oldco) prize money for finishing second was used to pay this debt.

It will be interesting if the EBT inquiry rules that Rangers played inelligible players in 2011/2012 in a large number of games, thus altering their finishing position and due prize money. We have heard on here that Davis and Papac were on EBT’s last season.

The web of deceit, lies, chicanery and downright BS is staggering.

  6. RobertTressell

I am pretty certain it has been reported that Whyte stopped the EBT schemes on his first day and that is why certain players received new long term contracts with a huge wage increase.

Don’t know if already mentioned, but I would strongly recommend Born To Run by Christopher McDougall.

They owed/owe Hearts £800,000 (part of this to be paid next year), Dunfermline £83,370, Dundee United £65,981, Celtic £40,377 and ICT £39,805. Even someone with deficient numeracy skills will figure out that £50,000 might not cover this. And he’s the cheek to say

“As of now, Rangers do not owe other Scottish clubs a penny. These debts were incurred prior to the Club going into administration and there was no obligation on the consortium buying the Club to pick them up.

“From the outset, I have made it clear that I firmly believe the correct thing for the Club to do is settle these football debts as a priority and we kept our word.”

  9. Son of Dan – you may be right, I read on here that Papac and Davis were among the last to benefit from them. Time will tell I suppose. It would explain those very strange long term contracts!!

By the way this has probably been doing the rounds for a long time but I saw a little ditty called ‘They Don’t Do Paying their Way’ on youtube.

Seriously, if there is not a potential change why is the Celtic online ticket info stating that ‘Fixtures are not final and dates and kick-off times may be subject to change’.

It’s not unreasonable to expect to know for sure 18 days before kick-off.

Haha there is that! I used to a BBC predictor but that was closed due to lack of interest, would love if a website did an SPL one!

  19. Monaghan – they just haven’t changed have they? They have built yet another house of cards.

I find it interesting that early hostility to Green in the MSM has been seriouly diluted and toned down. Leckie’s article was an exception, but since The Pie Eater seems to have settled in to the regime the anti green stuff has been notable by it’s absence. Bomber Broon seems to have disappeared too. Maybe he’s seen the deeds and decided the price is too high!!

It’s going to be another long year watching the farce unfold.

The facts are once again indicating that the newco is done before it gets off the ground. At best we’ll see a sprint to the SPL and then years and years of mediocrity. At worst they will implode again.

There used to be just the one elephant in the room – the Big Tax Case.

Now there is a whole herd – FTT, EBT, BDO, who owns what, Craig Whyte, David Murray, legal cases akimbo!!!!!!!

If they had the sense to be truly humble, totally diassociate themselves from Oldco, move to smaller stadium while in the lower leagues, admit their history went with liquidation, make a few genuine changes, tackle the sectarianism then the followfollowers could just look on in disgust at what their custodians did while they were being hypnotised by on field ‘success’ of a sort ten they might be able to sort themselves out.

All they are doing by clinging on is to draw out the problem, condemn themselves to more calamity and to forever be reminded that they walk away from unpaid bills and are a club of cheats.

Either way, I’m in a good place.

  20. Rangers’ Scottish debts settled, claims Charles Green

Charles Green claims debts to Scottish clubs incurred by the company that formerly ran Rangers have been settled.

The Ibrox chief executive told the Rangers website: “As of now, Rangers do not owe other Scottish clubs a penny.”

    Rangers chief executive

Hearts are due further payment from Lee Wallace’s 2011 transfer to Ibrox and Rangers say this will be paid in July.

Meanwhile, Frenchman Sebastian Faure and Brazilian Andre Moritz have been training with Rangers, who will decide whether to offer them deals this week.

Defender Faure, 21, left Stade de Gerland this summer, while midfielder Moritz, who holds an Italian passport and would not need a work permit, was most recently with Turkish club Mersin Idmanyurdu.

Rangers have until 1 September to finalise their squad before a year-long transfer embargo begins.

Accepting that punishment and agreeing to pay football debts were part of the agreement that allowed the Green-led consortium to acquire Scottish Football Association membership – the licence required to play league and cup matches.

“These debts were incurred prior to the club going into administration and there was no obligation on the consortium buying the club to pick them up,” Green added.

“From the outset, I have made it clear that I firmly believe the correct thing for the club to do is settle these football debts as a priority and we kept our word.

“That is what we have done and substantial funds were lodged with the SFA 10 days ago to be discharged to settle the outstanding debts.

“Furthermore, the club was given a written commitment from the SPL in May that it would settle an outstanding debt to Dundee Utd.

“It was frustrating to be informed by the SFA several days after they received the funds that they did not wish to be a ‘clearing house’ and in fact wanted us to settle the debts directly. Arrangements were then put in place by the club.”

Green did not clarify the status of debts Rangers accrued to non-Scottish clubs, which include Arsenal, Manchester City and Rapid Vienna

Re holiday reading- I’ve packed ‘In Search of Robert Millar’, about the Glaswegian cyclist who won the King of the Mountains when he finished 4th in the Tour, and then disappeared from public view, after maybe having a sex change.

    I’m looking forward to it.

we at the Kano Foundation have been running a predictor for the last couple of seasons to raise funds.

Unfortunately , it has proved time-consuming to maintain so we experimented with SportGuru (now SuperBru) during the Euros. Seemed to work better .

We’re going to go with the EPL this season with the Celtic matches as the ‘Joker’ and , hopefully also have Celtic in the CL as well.

Once TTT gets his finger out of course . Oi , TTT , league starts on Saturday you know !

  28. Aaaah…..the sevcovians…..but,seriously,what do they have to do with us any more? (Unless we have the misfortune to be suspiciously drawn against them in some cup or other. Otherwise….we’re well shot of them)

There they are, like arrogant spoiled rich kids slummin’ it. Do that too often in the same neighbourhood with ever increasing levels of arrogance and the end result is inevitable.

Yeah, they might have their 5***** hack merchants and their dubious ‘strikers’,but it’s a rough and tumble league they’re in and croppers will come. Injuries, suspensions, falling revenue, all the baggage of football. They are fools to delude themselves that a canter back to the top will be a doddle. Even with Longmuir in their corner, even with league reconstruction for their benefit only being bandied about, the stars will have to align in an unprecedented manner for them to be back in the top flight, even in the next decade; look at Leeeds, once riding high, playing well, doing credit to themselves in Europe…..bang…they’re gone. Now they yo-yo about, and they are far far better managed than the critters from planet Sevco.

We can laugh at them…..that’s about it. They’re truly none of our concern any longer, and they’d do well to look to their own fortunes,or lack thereof, and stop worrying about us. Their hatred of all things Celtic is now anachronistic, outdated, outlived. It’s over. They’re gone.

They need to get used to it.

Ole Johnny- I always pack at least one pair of clean underwear.

And on the first day of my well deserved holiday I go to the supermarket for a packet of detergent so I can wash my smalls in the sink.

Just because we’re in foreign foreign doesn’ t mean we should let standards slip.
