Raith Rovers may be seventh in the Championship and 20 points behind Scott Brown’s Ayr United, but none of us who have been here for a while will be taking them lightly in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
The Kirkcaldy side were in the hunt for promotion until the wheels came off their challenge since the turn of the year. So far, 2025 has delivered only one win in the league and one in the cup, when they eliminated Falkirk.
Falkirk demonstrated what Championship sides can do at Celtic Park in September’s League Cup tie. They held the lead until the roof fell in at 70 minutes.
When interviewed after the Dundee game on Wednesday, Brendan Rodgers was keen to talk only about the Raith game, not Wednesday’s Champions League tie. In reality, plans for the Dundee game and tomorrow’s cup tie will were both constructed with Munich in mind. Let’s get through to the quarters without fuss.
Celtic fans’ reputation being dragged through the mire by free-loaders to the point where we need to hope for clemency from Uefa before being allowed to attend a game is enraging. There is always another free-loader and it will lead to a crackdown which will cause harm to our community.

Hello
Anybody out there
C,Mon the Celtica
Delighted that the actions of one idiot in the game versus Aston Villa didn’t result in a supporters ban.
BBC Scotland Sports Department are understood to be appealing the decision to UEFA
Macphail
I heard it was going to Var.
‘Let’s get through to the quarters without fuss.’
I take it that statement relates to the Champs League, right ? ;))

Really good.
Germans take long view and do it right shocker.
Equally fair I think for others to point out the relative lack of need for matchday income enjoyed by the super clubs (£500m plus turnover).
For our part at Celtic, I think the club are missing an opportunity for a model that gives fans a clear understanding (before the season starts) of what prices they’ll pay for tickets
AND
Reduces prices slightly for concessions.
Just a punt but …
Main concessions will ALWAYS be discounted by one third from standard price.
For very small children? Two thirds.
So, purely for illustration (made up numbers)
Champions League (all stages)
£48 / £32 / £16
Domestic Cup Games (both cups)
£30 / £20 / £10
————–
very good and though provoking.
does the ticket office do enough to fill celtic park for all fixtures, we need a ticket exchange system, rules around ticket usage to make for bigger attendnances and realistic affordable pricing.
Burnley 78
Hope your recovery goes well ,good health is the most important thing.HH
Regarding another fine for the club, surely someone will recognise the idiot.
The club should do all they can to find who he is ,take him to court to recover cost.
The only way this will stop is to name and shame them HH
There was me excited about a podium position and you bhoys are beating me to the punch. Glad that we didn’t get banned.
Looking forward to the game this weekend.
I think Daizen is flourishing this season and his confidence to take his second goal first time was brilliant. If there is a better team goal than our 4th the other night, then it must be something special to beat that.
Good morning
Sean
a quick scan of the timternet and other blogs have decided that celtic plc didnt backfill a striker because they have met their objective with the bayern playoff, and they know we will get beat anyways, so didnt spend the monies (ignoring jota purchace and call it a swap),
and because of this brendan wont sign an extension, because he is scunnered again.
meanwhile, thems blogs believe PL influenced uefa to “only” fine the celts.
what are they all like.
what is actually meant by freeloader ?
Celtic don’t do much pre contract talk.
Originally made infamous by Rainjurz and despite us, having a ‘signed’ pre contractural agreement with a former player, we opted not to go to the authorities after the player and Rainjurz had broken it.
In terms of court findings and legality, Celtic decided to let it go. Pre contracts are useful in that you can only have one at a time, and can’t agree others, change of mind or ‘circumstances’ is another matter.
No idea if the Greg Taylor pre contract story is true, but we should be confident of who might run with it in any case? Greg Taylor has massive games on the horizon.
Kieran Tierney on the otherhand is highly unlikely to follow in the footsteps of you know who.

The BBC Sports Dept are a disgrace.
They delight in highlighting the fact that flares and smoke bombs are let off at Celtic matches, constantly asking questions of the manager in post match interviews. They then go out of their way to contact UEFA just to ensure the natch delegate knows that there was such an incident.
I wonder how many questions about flares They asked of the YB of Bern coach the other week. They had that many they almost set fire to the stadium.
At the same time they never ask any questions regarding certain songs being sung at other venues.
How fortunate we are to have reporters with such good eyesight while at the same time being totally deaf.
Hibernian made a loss of £7.2m for the 12-month period to the end of June 2024.
The figure is close to double the previous year’s losses of £3.8m, despite turnover increasing by almost 30% to £15.9m.
During the period between July 2023 and the end of the following June, Hibs sacked managers Lee Johnson and Nick Montgomery, resulting in a “significant six-figure impact”.
Upgrades to Easter Road stadium, including a safe-standing area, floodlights and hospitality suites, cost “in excess of £3m”.
The club admit a “poor recruitment strategy” resulted in a “significant overspend” and “a downturn in performance and results continues to prove problematic”.
Staff costs have risen by more than £2m, while the wages to turnover ratio has dipped slightly to 78%.
The accounts also state £1m has been written off because the company owing money has gone into liquidation.
Hibs made a £1m profit from player sales and generated additional income from European matches.
I saw the headline ” Freeloaders ” and thought has P67 had some kind of Damascene conversion?
However it was only about some fud throwing a firework and jeopardising future supporter attendance.
Ach well! ; )
Our reputation is being dragged through mire because of the behaviour of some of our own fans, Paul. I am less offended at a Pyro than I am singing songs about a dead Monarch, but the former is banned and the latter is simply indecent. We don’t need to look far for indecent songs from Ibrox, and we all know this isn’t commented on, but our own board make no statements on this matter despite it getting more and more vile every season. Total complete and utter head in the sand cowards. Why? Because some of them will have their hand in the trough and no the handshakes all too well. Elements of our fan base make a day out at the football unattractive for our OWN support, never mind causing offence elsewhere. Rather than defend atrocious conduct, let’s call it out and tidy up the behaviour.
Can’t risk an injury to Idah with Maeda unable to play v Bayern. Good chance to use Daizen in the middle. Jota needs the games anyway. Kuhn didn’t start midweek so will probably play.
Wouldn’t make too many changes – maybe bring in Scales and Bernardo.
Occum’s razor – they simply do not care about the reputation of our club, which suggests they use it as a means to a non-football related end.
i know kick off time is a bit offputting for some, but great opportunity for those who cant attend sold out league games to get along and support the celtic, take the kids, pricing more affordable,
thousands and thousands of availability.

Yes.

Saint Stivs at 12:20 – cheers.
FWIW – I never gave ticket resale schemes a thought until you pushed it here.
Am (slowly) coming round.
I can imagine though (with no evidence whatsoever) the executive leadership at Celtic are concerned the face value (and therefore demand) of both season tickets and individual matchday tickets would be at risk.
Saint Stivs @ 12:28 re Hibs financials.
Turnover £15.9m
Loss £7.2m
Or 45% of turnover.
Eye wateringly bad.
How do people running businesses get away this just because those businesses are football clubs?
Burnley78: best wishes re your health issues.
I had a conversation a few years ago with HamiltonTim on here.
I was saying how I missed going to away games as the fans seemed to back the team without the grumblings we get at Celtic Park.
As a regular away attendee he said that was no longer the case and he felt their behaviour was deteriorating in all aspects.
It’s hard to admit but we do have a problem. I certainly don’t have the answers and as I no longer attend away games i am hesitant to be too critical but there was a time when self policing was more evident, I imagine in this day and age older fans will be reluctant to do this.
League not quite in the bag, but it would take some collapse to mess it up from here. 92 points would be enough (given our GD), although it’s highly unlikely we would actually need that many. That would be 2.0 points per game from the remaining 13 games. And since we have averaged 2.64 up to now we will probably end up with comfortably more than that.
B78. Hope you continue to recover well.
Great post earlier this morning.
Put out Jota is a starter. Will put thousands on the gate.Star Quality.
Get well soon Burnley. Was in myself for an op for a couple of days last week, stitches out next week.Brendan will start strong tomorrow.First chance to see,Kuhn,Maeda,Jota up front.
Glasstwothirdsfull,
Of course the league is in the bag.

1962 ST MIRREN 3 CELTIC 1.at IBROX SCOTTISH CUP TIE.
lots of bottles thrown and wee boys on pitch for safety. The crowd turned on bottle throwers. There was film and photos of hundreds of supporters gathered round the morons and kicking lumps out of them .That action cured the problem for a long time after. JIST SAYIN LIKE.

I couldnt help but notice our dundee game, i get a rearrangement makes travel difficult for many, but once again, there are thousands of unoccupied seats, but another reported attendnace of 58,500.
Just as puzzling to me, on a night where the football was entertaining, and the skills on show just really good, the place still emptied from the 75th minute onwards,
Lucky if there was 20,000 left at the final whistle.
My personal opinion, I find it quite disrespectful to the team efforts,
Meanwhile, I know people dont want comparisons with other leagues, prices and attendnances, and everyone has their own reasons for how they support the club, but that Liverpool game live on tv, there wasnt an empty seat in the place, and they were still there at the end of the game (minus the spurs fans obvs).
A quick scan at the tickets page, munich and united sold out, but there will be unoccupied seats.
Raith, nudging to the 50,000 sales mark
Funnily enough our cup home games, with lesser in attendnance have been noiser and more enjoyable for me, a different crowd turning up, seem more grateful to actually be there.
anyways, it is a kpi for the buusiness, but i dont feel they maximise attendnace enough.
big week ahead, come on the hoops/
Like a gambling addict walking out of the bookies with their winnings, this is will be a short lived moment of relief. A ban will come our way, I wouldn’t in the least bit be surprised if we picked up one after Munich.
and as to the hibs losses, there is a comment i missed, seems the gordon family are blessing and funding the improvements being made and underwriting the spending,
by at you say 78% of revenues spent on wages, definately not sustainable.
and back to attendnances, in spite of the supposed improvement for the rangers, they had near 5,000 unsold seats for the last league game.
they did well increasing capacity this season, eventually, a wee birdie told me this week, the copland concourse is still not finished, and no seperation/segregation works done to allow celtic supporters in.
get them banned for celtic park, announce it now.
i dread drawing them in the cup quarter finals, but it would be interesting to see what ticket allocations would be enforced.
Last chance saloon now, make the clown who got lifted at Villa pay the fine, maybe put it in the Ts and Cs of season tickets, and match day tickets, that any such fines will be liable to the individual.
Burnley 78..@7.36am
Quality post , I’m sure many will share the same sentiments.
Hopefully you have a swift recovery from your health issues.
Take care .
!!Bada Bing!! on 7th February 2025 1:54 pm (and others)
Glad I am not alone in thinking we should pass the costs on. I feel bad as its a Celtic fan but with fans like that…
A disclaimer could be added to the T&Cs but not required – if the club (or an individual) incurs costs via the actions of others, it has a right to reclaim costs.
This assumes that the fine is for the flare alone and not as a result of “indecent” singing as I think tangbhoy called it @ 1:03 pm. I think I saw Daily Mail or Express headlines on a news aggregator site that said Eufa were investigating us for the singing AND flares and I have not read the charge. it would be a surprise to me if the fine were in any way related to the singing as a lot of what fans sing is offensive/indecent but not generally actionable by EUFA.
Minor quibble but In that same post the £1brox singing is also called indecent when I think it has been proven illegal in large chunks?
general interest, the drone guy at celtic park and barrowfield.
i seen it last week, obviously i dont have a drone, i am boring enough as it is.
but it still looks months away from completion.

Hibs have hibbed it again
Looked like they were well in running with £7.2M loses up until June 2024.
“we thought we had a great chance of winning most loss in season cup
only to blown away by Rangers final tally of £17M” said spokesman for HIBS.
Forever the bridesmade.
Burnley78…..
I hope that you are on the mend.
Your post is a reminder that we don’t know what is going on in other people’s lives.
I hope that you are all sorted quickly.
Weeron
I have absolutely no doubt that the bayern tie will see “our fans” disciplined by UEFA for some misdemeanor.
And an away ban, or even a section closure at home will be in place for next seasons play off game.
they aint out to get us, they hand out stadium or travel bans to multiple clubs,
current sanctionns given on 5th feb to toher clubs.
