Free-loaders, Uefa clemency

185

Raith Rovers may be seventh in the Championship and 20 points behind Scott Brown’s Ayr United, but none of us who have been here for a while will be taking them lightly in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

The Kirkcaldy side were in the hunt for promotion until the wheels came off their challenge since the turn of the year.  So far, 2025 has delivered only one win in the league and one in the cup, when they eliminated Falkirk.

Falkirk demonstrated what Championship sides can do at Celtic Park in September’s League Cup tie.  They held the lead until the roof fell in at 70 minutes.

When interviewed after the Dundee game on Wednesday, Brendan Rodgers was keen to talk only about the Raith game, not Wednesday’s Champions League tie.  In reality, plans for the Dundee game and tomorrow’s cup tie will were both constructed with Munich in mind.  Let’s get through to the quarters without fuss.

Celtic fans’ reputation being dragged through the mire by free-loaders to the point where we need to hope for clemency from Uefa before being allowed to attend a game is enraging.  There is always another free-loader and it will lead to a crackdown which will cause harm to our community.

Watching the Ayr game on my tablet only because the wife is watching Midsomers.

Think I made the wrong choice, not been in that park since the 70’s doesn’t look any different apart from a wee change in the main stand 🙃

  2. I think Celtic should be commendef for successfully challenging the potential fan ban by UEFA.

I am aware that the original suspended sentance remains in place.

However i must say I agree with Tangbhoy @ 01.03 hrs..

    HH.

  3. Interesting that BBC Scotland’s live text of the Ayr United and Hibs says there’s an awful lot of pyros and a brilliant atmosphere.

Funny when there was one smoke bomb at Celtic’s Champions League game they were appalled and as someone else mentioned previously turned it into an international incident.

What a shower of sh@&e bags!

  4. lets all do the huddle on

i was down at the pre season friendly.

dont think i had been in the ground since another pre season friendly that must have been 30-odd years ago.

loved the fact it hadnt changed apart from the stand/terrace along the touchline has some posh bits added.

much prefer they grounds than the soulless grounds we have these days.

Don’t get me wrong , nothing wrong with the stadium, I like standing at games, just the stadium hasn’t changed.

As someone who comes from Kilmarnock attended many Ayrshire derbies with my mates, they are mental 🫣

Never stayed in ayr as a youth (so never really got into ayr utd) , but my kids do now and my youngest, she loves her football, plays in goal for one of the local teams

Its a real social thing for her friends and schools

Not my thing, but am glad she has somewhere to go of a saturday afternoon

I thought, like John Hughes, that it was a great tackle!

  8. Thank you to Tom Mclaughlin at 16.04 for posting the link to the Celtic podcast with Sir James McMillan.

Next time a pub quiz asks what classical compose was a qualified football referee i will be able to answer Dimitri Shostakovich.

Sir James is an extraordinary example of a local boy made good and taking the Celtic name worldwide.

This is not to be missed.

  9. If Ayr go up they’ll have to spend money they don’t have on installing seating. Cut the capacity and dampen the atmosphere. Great idea eh.

    The curse of Thatcher.

Not aware of any seating limitations on grounds for promotion, think the 10k rule has been binned?

  11. Majestic Hartson on

    Prestonpans,

I thought the same. Quite right too, I’m sure there were some clubs who built stadiums they couldn’t afford and wouldn’t fill.

    Clunks,

What team does your daughter play with? Mine is at Cambusdoon. She’s just turned 14.

  13. Sir James McMillan went to the same primary as I did in Cumnock, St Johns

Although being 15 years older, I never knew the bhoy

  14. Clunks

For 2 years i did the audit of Cumnock and Doon Valley district Council

I was great fun going in on a Monday morning after Cumnock had played Auchinleck

People were sitting at their desks with their scarves on and not talking to each other.

  15. Hrvatski Jim

Auchinleck was catholic friendly (more than cumnock), I had more friends there than I did in Cumnock (and a lot of them were not catholic)

  16. B78 – get well soon – you’ll be out on yer bike before too long (and probably before the doc and yer family say you should)…top post…
