FRENCH COULD SPLASH MILLIONS ON CELT – THANKS TO ARSENAL

FRENCH club Lille are preparing a fresh bid for Jozo Simunovic – thanks to their cash bonanza from Arsenal.

The Ligue 1 outfit have banked a massive £72million from Kieran Tierney’s long-time suitors after agreeing a record-breaking deal to sell winger Nicolas Pepe to the London side.

Lille coach Christophe Galtier has already admitted he rates Celtic’s Croatian centre-half and was linked with a £5million move for the defender last month, as CQN reported.

The Hoops, though, would not be interested in doing business at that financial level for a player who cost £4.5million from Dinamo Zagreb in August 2015 and still has two years to run on his contract.

Neil Lennon splashed £7million to bring in Christopher Jullien from Toulouse in the summer as he strengthened the heart of his rearguard after Dedryck Boyata quit at the end of his deal to join mid-table Bundesliga team Hertha Berlin and Filip Benkovic returned to Leicester City after his loan term expired.

Galtier, who had Simunovic scouted last season, is now in a position to up the ante in his pursuit of the 24-year-old back-four operator.

However, it would take serious money before the eight-in-a-row champions considered selling the player.
