FRENCH DISCONNECTION: OLI MYSTERY

OLIVIER NTCHAM was involved in a transfer mystery at the weekend with reports from France claiming Celtic had offered the midfielder to Bordeaux.

The French Under-21 international was linked to Marseille and Porto a year ago, but the Hoops were not interested in parting with the player who joined in a £4.5million switch from Manchester City in August 2017.

However, Ntcham’s comments during the summer that he had been “very disappointed” the move back to France had not materialised did not sit well with the Hoops or manager Neil Lennon.

Website 20 Minutes reported the eight-in-a-row champions contacted Bordeaux regarding a potential deal for the powerhouse performer who has shown a bit of form in recent games.

And they say that the Ligue 1 side rejected the advance because they were looking for someone with more experience and that the move could be too expensive for the club.

The stories are likely to rumble on until the transfer window closes a fortnight today.

Lennon recently insisted he wanted Ntcham to stay and help with the nine-in-a-row bid as well as attempting to make a dent on the European scene.

The Champions League has gone now, but the player could have a crucial role to play in the forthcoming Europa play-offs against AIK Stockholm with the first leg at Parkhead on Thursday and the return in Sweden the following week.
