The French Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin, seems intent on challenging Boris Johnson as the politician who has gone out of his way most to offend and unfairly castigate the people of Liverpool in particular and English football fans in general.
His claim that up to 70% of tickets presented at the Champions League final on Saturday were fake is demonstrably false. The actions of his government, Paris police and stadium authorities were responsible for the dangerous events ahead of kick-off. Uefa’s culpability remains an open question.
Darmanin invoked the 37-year-old spectre of Hysel, without naming the disaster, as justification for his own mistakes. It seems that politicians implying those across a border are somehow inferior is not limited to these shores.
Johnson, hard on the heels of criticising Liverpool fans for booing the national anthem at the FA Cup Final, and unable to find the goodwill to wish the club good luck in the Champions League Final (having videoed a greeting for Newco a week earlier), made what sounded like grudging noises of support for what happened to fans.
As we have long known in Scotland, football fans are little more than scapegoats for politicians own failures.

In my residential street, there are 120 Houses (I know this cos the last house on the road is number 120 saddo that I am). I have to drive the whole street to get out the estate.
As of this morning, there were 3 gardens with something jubilee themed.
The flag flyer has up the UJ with Queens head picture.
One person has bunting of UJs around the hot tub.
Another has a vase of UJs in the window.
Other than the Oranginas and the old imperialists, I dont think there is an appetite for it in Scotland really.

It’s two days off work- that’s it, going to avoid news for a week. I believe and hope many in Scotland are against and celebration simply by having socialists leanings, but there will, of course, be exeptions…… All party leaders will probably save face by saying something nice- isn’t that delightful? 🙄
Would guess only aging royalists and young conservative types in Englandshire, with a splattering of the mental ukip/britain first mob. Apart from that Larkhall, some of NI and huns up here who will jump at the chance of putting up a butcher’s apron up in their window. It would be suggested that the common denominator on all of these- supremacists and xenophobic attitudes and mostly brexit voters- some will hide better than others.
In his younger days, my Dad drank in the Straw Hoose (now the 5Ways) at Parkhead Cross, partly I suppose because my Uncle Eddie worked there. Lately, it was the Black Bull. Personally, I don’t go near either, as I drive to the game, sad to say.
In the days when pubs closed between 3 and 5, the staff of the Straw Hoose used to go en masse to the game and stood together at the old rangers end.

The gaps with rich and poor are getting obvious,as shown by the number of working poor,who are working to be poorer than they were last year,and that’ll be on a not bad salary.
The poverty is getting less hidden,people are starting to not give a .. ,they are hungry.
Lizzie,personally gets the respect any 95 year old does,however all our pensioners would live to that age if they had the same life backup as she did.They don’t.
Their quality of life would be blighted by working since the day they left school.
The jubilee thing would probably occur organically and there would here of a few parties in old folks home,alas the British identity is in crisis,Brexit is throwing the economy of a cliff,inflation is rampant.
All govt can do is pile debt on future generations ensuring they are poorer.
No need for it people are to busy running to a standstill.

I heard an interview from a man who runs the Republic a group who want the Head of State elected, whatever form that takes. I thought his final point was really at the heart of the matter and something which the interviewer couldn’t answer, ‘in a healthy democracy can it ever be a good thing to have the same Head of State for 70 years?’
