SOUTHAMPTON have been linked with another raid on a Celtic star.
The South coast club have bought Fraser Forster, Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Stuart Armstrong – at a combined total of around £45million – from the Parkhead side in recent years.
Now it is believed Dutch teenager Jeremie Frimpong has come to their attention with the Premier League outfit on the look-out for defensive recruitments in next month’s transfer window, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.
The Hoops are aware of interest from several English Championship clubs who are keeping tabs on the former Manchester City prospect who arrived at the champions last summer in a bargain transfer which will rise to £1million.
Frimpong, 19, signed a four-year contract when Neil Lennon swooped for the Etihad right-back in a deadline-day deal.
The fans’ favourite has made over 40 appearances since his debut in the 5-0 Betfred League Cup victory over Partick Thistle in September last year.
The Hoops are in no rush to part company with the exciting full-back and discussions over a contract extension have already taken place.
But as yet no agreement has been struck between Frimpong and the club.
