FRIMPONG TRANSFER UPDATE

JEREMIE FRIMPONG will NOT be leaving Celtic – despite misinformed reports to the contrary.

Stories that Serie A outfit Roma were lining up a £13million bid for the 20-year-old Dutch right wing-back are way off the mark.

The Italians aces have “no wish to sign” Frimpong, according to a report in the Daily Record, and, in fact, the Hoops hierarchy are keen for the former Manchester City prospect, who joined the Hoops on transfer deadline deal last summer for £1million, to sign an extension.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed the fans’ favourite was on boss Paulo Fonseca’s wanted list as the Italians were set to weigh up a move in next month’s transfer window.

It has emerged Roma do not have the required funds to make offers in the £13million region and there will be no move for the Celt.

In the meantime, Frimpong is hoping to play in his second Cup Final at Hampden this weekend after picking up a winner’s medal in the 1-0 Betfred League Cup Final victory over Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side on December 8 last year.

The youngster was dismissed with half-an-hour still to play when he was adjudged to have fouled Alfredo Morelos to give away a penalty-kick only four minutes after Christopher Jullien had scored what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Fraser Forster, of course, saved the Colombian’s spot-kick and the Hoops claimed their tenth successive domestic honour.

They have since added their ninth league title on the trot and a win over Hearts in the delayed showpiece showdown at Hampden on Sunday will complete the phenomenal quadruple treble.

Frimpong is eager to play his part – and remain on the pitch for the duration.
