Just days after The Beating of Barca in 2004 the youthful Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell presented teenage sensation, David Marshall, with a new contract, reward for his incredible goalkeeping performances against the Catalans. Having made only a single first team appearance, in a cup game against (then) lower league opponents, David played the second half of the first leg against Ronaldinho & Co, then all of the second leg, without conceding a goal.
It Camp Nou performance was the most remarkable I’ve seen from a keeper. After years looking for a solid performer to make the position his own, it looked like we had a new star.
A year later David had, if anything, regressed. He remained first choice until after the start of season 2005-06 but Artur Boruc, for a while the genuine article, soon replaced him. David was shipped out to Norwich before eventually settling at Cardiff City, where he has built a solid career, but his star never shone as brightly as we expected it to. His Scottish contemporaries, Allan McGregor and Craig Gordon, both overtook him.
It is incredibly hard for a youth player to break into a team like Celtic in a position like goalkeeper, or striker, the pressure to deliver – every time – is so high, we are a whole lot more likely to introduce wingers. The parallels between David Marshall and Tony Watt are remarkable, so far.
From the outside it’s hard to guess what went wrong for David at Celtic. He lost his place at Celtic when he was just 20 and the trajectory of his career was never the same but 20 is still remarkably young for a keeper working at Champions League level. Tony Watt is two years younger than David and he is in the considerably better position of being able to come on as substitute for sections of games, or to drop away for a few weeks, if necessary.
We should expect more fantastic splurges of form from the player but there will be frustrations and dips in form too. He has the skill, speed and strength to make it. With hard work and patience he stands an excellent chance.

If the board have it in for the GB.
My question would be Why?
They light up the stadium.
They arouse the crowd.
They are the vocal life support of our support.
They provide much needed income, and stimulate others to enjoy the matches, help the team, and entice others to attend.
So I ask myself Why?
Our board are not stupid.

‘I think they are great and support them, but they are more than a singing section and that’s where the troubles begin.’
They are a threat to western civilisation and the whole Judeo Christian basis of our society.
They are indeed more than a singing section.
They have banners and they organise fan displays.
Worse than that, they indulge in lateral movement.

Fran and Anna used to attend St.Patrick’s Church once a year every year to champion the cause of St.Rita.
They were regulars at St.Augustines’s Church.

They don’t show sufficient respect to authority.
In short, they’re uppity.

I stretched that one a bit…

Last comment on page 22, if it was just singing, the board would be all over them with praise.

Wow. Hold the bus.
Philbhoy said earlier that he takes his wee girl to games…..

Post number 1111.
Surely that is better than a mere podium.
Where was Philvis when that milestone was available ?

Everything they do inside the stadium is amazing.
In the past when fans bought or sold TAL or the republican news on supporter buses / pubs / outside the stadium, they were quizzed by the police, statements taken.
These fans took the extra step beyond just singing songs at celtic park
The GB have linked themselves with ‘Ultra’s’ throughout the world, this is being seen by the cops as an extra step beyond just singing and making banners.
KK,
glad you spotted it… took days of preparation ;)

Forza GB. I’ve supported Celtic nigh on 40 years and have decided that if the GB go, I’m out.
Celtic FC is the Celtic fans, without the fans, what’s the point?
Oops. Was it jimmyq who got 1111?

It doesn’t merit the time and money the police are spending on it.
The board either need to back the GB and tell the police to wind their necks in or do away with the GB section of the ground.
I always support the GB
however not sure i will boycott
next game.
It will be hard to notice a boycott
against Arbroath.
KK,
well, obviously, I’m a bit emotional
I’d like to thank everybody on here… without their help it wouldn’t have been possible
Obviously, my mum and dad, brothers, sisters, and all the family
and Scarlett for that thing she did with the shower gel
its all a bit too much…. sniff
Ernie, I agree, everyone needs to put their cards on the table. Until then pistols at dawn.
chuckles has his share issue (returning zero value or influence to any schmuck who parts with cash), Ally has has his away win, Walty is back-but will say hee-haw about team selection.
Where’s the googly-eyed one?
Where’s the FTT?
Where’s the SFA investigation?
It’s all about the munney, munney, munney!

I agree 100%.
If the polis don’t know who is who, and what is what within the GB by now, they have wasted a hell of a lot of the tax payers money, so that leaves harrasment.
After reading about the crap that tghe
TET
Not everyone who sits in section 111 is in the GB I think that confuses the coppers.
Very Moving, Jimmy.
Now you’ve got me crying.
Good night & good luck to the Young Lions at Pittodrie.

TET… nooo…
you… the lambada… mental pictures
I’ve just read on another site about the GB boycott of the next home game. Good on them for taking this stance. If they call for a wider boycott I will also support that. I said in the past that if they have nothing to worry about then they have nothing to worry about being filmed, but the harassment they are receiving is shameful and supported by our board.
This is becoming a joke, the filming of the GB on a bi-weekly basis at CP should not be endorsed by our club. WTF are they thinking about by supporting the alienation of the best part of the Celtic support?
Peter Lawell after the magnificent win against Barcelona last week did not even think it necessary to mention the display that the GB funded and organised, never mind their brilliant support at every home game. That in itself was nothing short of disgraceful.
Its about time our club stood up and supported those who have supported and continue to support them them.

Falkirkbhoy does have a point tho.
If you go on to any non Celtic site, the GB are portrayed as IRA loving, Fenian loving criminals who want to do whatever nasty evil things they can think up, and the polis and politicos love it, takes the spotlight away from the real problem.
Way, way off the the truth, but in scotland, the truth doesn’t sell.
Hence the dilema the suits find themselfs in.
Do they stick or twist ?
Coatbridge born Not too bright. I have little Latin even less Greek although Rufus did his best
Glad I am not the only one to appreciate all Coatbridge has to offer
Let the GB do what they have to do.
They are a fantastic part of the Celtic support.
Without the GB, CP will be diminished.
But Celtic will go on.
