Frustrations for what could have been

779

There are frustrations for what could have been.  Leipzig did not have us under great pressure at any time in the game, but concentration dropped for three minutes, which settled the outcome.

I initially blamed Dedryck for the opening goal, but on second viewing, the incident was more nuanced.  Eboue Kouassi almost got a touch on the ball, meaning Dedryck waited on the second ball instead of attacking the cross.  Eboue himself only reacted when the Leipzig attacker nearest the right wing failed to get a touch on the ball.

Cristian Gamboa went to ground and didn’t get near the ball for the cross leading to the second goal.  Unforgiveable, but we are parachuting a player into a high level of football when his annual game time is measured in dozens of minutes.

Despite defeats in Germany and Austria, Celtic are not out of contention.  Leipzig are nowhere near as good as Salzburg.  We have beaten better teams than them at a packed Celtic Park.  Get a win next time out, or even a draw, and the remaining fixtures favour us.

By the time we go to Trondheim, Rosenborg will be out of the tournament.  Salzburg end the group at Celtic Park, when they will have already have top spot confirmed, and want to avoid injuries, suspensions and hopefully be keen to give experience to squad players.

I have spoken highly of Jozo for years, but the sight of him leaving the field on a stretcher after going down holding his ankle confirmed any remaining doubt about how appropriate his physical frame is for competitive sport.

Was Brendan resting players with an eye on Sunday?  It looks like it.  Mikael made an appearance from the bench, while Filip Benkovic was also fit enough for the bench.  If these two only have one game in them this week, the semi-final at Murrayfield is the wise choice.

  1. Caltontongues.

We were talking about that in work today.

Has a Pot 4 seeded team ever had such an easy draw, for the reasons you have given above.

Then look at us, a Pot 2 seed and we get a load of Red Bull.

    Hail Hail

Comparing us to the zombies ….

    There’s your first mistake.

Watched 80% of their game last night. Emperor’s new clothes, turn to mute and the reality is laid bare. They are utter dross, won’t finish second never mind challenge us.

  3. The same European frailities that has dogged us over the years , raised its head again last night . We are way way to soft . And to be perfectly honest ,that same European fault has appeared in some of our games here as well . Gordon. Fairly reliable . Mikael sad to say ,age and injuries have taken there toll, on a great Celtic servant , a quality replacement should have been bought before this . Oor kid KT

could we get better , don’t think so , but he could do with a rest , broonie wish we had a clone for this guy. How are we going to get a replacement for him . James Forrest, been doing well recently , would like more consistency from him . Ntcham , strongly feel we will get a moussa scenario here , definitely has the ability , when he wants to show it , hope I’m wrong here , but don’t think he gives us 100% at times .

Eddie ,on his game a star, but like ntcham not committed at times . Griff I’m longing for him to get back to the player we know he is . Rogic is a fabulous player , a bit injury prone ,and one who could do with more dig . McGregor can’t really get this bhoy at all , for me another Vic Davidson, ( one for older Celts) got ability .but can’t handle the rough stuff and hides . Now our central defence ,how in the name of God could you build a team round any of them . Boyata whom i wish we could keep , but wont . Joso who is no use to us ,spends more time on the treatment table than on the field , and when fit wont play on plastic ,total waste to us . Berkovic looks the part .but no chance with him , a big spend is a must for this department , hope its guys in the marc reiper or paul elliot mould . Sinclair what in the name of God has happened to him ,as it is he is no good to us either. Christie ,is worth some more time . Disappointed mulumbu didn,t get a shift last night. He will be just what we need on sunday , a real battler what we need a lot more of . Just my thoughts guys as usual.

Now that I realise how corrupt the world of football is, nothing would surprise me.

Even in the qualification rounds, Sevco received an almost unimaginable easy draw.

In the third qualifying round, they were non seeded and were drawn against the lowest seed possible, Maribor.

Of course, the way the draw worked was, Round 4 was drawn, before Round 3 ended, meaning Sevco were given a seeded draw in Round 4 because they knocked out Maribor.

    Paranoid, not paranoid enough.

    Hail Hail

  5. feck the football ,lets get a music theme now before garry Delaney comes on ,deep purple the best rock band in the world, follow that garry.ywnwa.

I note from BR’s presser today the SMSM are now asking ‘social media says’ questions.

In a way this is heartening in exposing rent seekers for the charlatans they are.

On another Level it’s quite concerning.

If the MSM media can be co-opted, controlled and manipulated when reporting sport, how can they be trusted when reporting politics, economics, foreign affairs etc?
