Further confirmation of where we are

472

The reaction to points dropped yesterday was not on the same level as the disappointment after we similarly rescued a point against Hibs late on the game or went out of the League Cup last week, this one was expected by all and did no more than provide further confirmation of where we are.

This run of two wins in 12 games will eventually end, but by then it will be too late – possibly too late to see off Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final.  In 11 games between now and February, only two are outside Glasgow, short journeys to Hamilton and Paisley, and we have no international fixtures to contend with, but as St Johnstone, Ross County and others have established, that is no comfort.

St Johnstone’s goal was unlike our most in our recent glut.  The defence was briefly in position before breaking into a moment’s disorganisation, Frimpong rushed forward, leaving May unattended, Kane reacted while his marker, Bitton, looked the other way.  Neither Celtic player demonstrated defensive instincts.

Not that the defence is to blame.  The volume of good chances was insufficient to convince anyone a Celtic goal was coming and those that came were missed by our once-prized asset.  The equaliser had more than a touch of good fortune about it.  Whatever ails Celtic, it is not limited to the back line.

    Thanks for posting that article.

In the uk we have the Tory/Brexit party who are on the same path. Without wanting to be too pessimistic I can’t see a way out of this situation for the US or the uk.

    Scary times.

  6. If that is considered a personal attack we really have a lot of snowflakes on here these days. I would have thought accusing our manager of having no integrity was way worse than anything I typed.

No abuse, no bad language but they get deleted very poor form.

  7. The Film ” Swannee River” was made in 1939.

    Some Edited details below..

    Plot

The family of Stephen Foster (Ameche) insists that he accept a seven-dollar-a-week shipping clerk job in Cincinnati, but he prefers to write songs. Stephen’s prospective father-in-law Andrew McDowell has no faith in Stephen, who wants to write “music from the heart of the simple people of the South.” The struggling composer is content to sell “Oh! Susanna” for fifteen dollars to minstrel singer E. P. Christy and allows Christy to take credit as its writer.

Soon, the song is sweeping the country, and Stephen follows it with “De Camptown Races” and goes on tour with Christy’s troupe, called Christy’s Minstrels. Solvent at last, Stephen marries Jane McDowell (Leeds), and a daughter Marion is born to them. Inspired by his wife’s beauty, Stephen writes “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair.”

However, Stephen’s prosperity ends when his classical music fails and the advent of the Civil War brands his music as traitorous. When he turns to drinking, Jane leaves him, but two years later she returns to encourage him to write “Old Folks at Home.” Stephen never hears the composition performed, however, for on the night that Christy presents the song to a New York audience, the composer dies of a heart attack.

    Cast

    Don Ameche as Stephen Foster

Andrea Leeds as Jane McDowell Foster

Al Jolson as Edwin P. Christy…

I knew that Al Jolson was in there somewhere.

As a boy in the 1960’s the BBC used to show a programme on many a Saturday Night called…” The Black and White Minstrel show”…its true to say that it was very popular with Brit audiences DESPITE ” The Minstrels” being WHITE Guys wearing BLACK Face Paint with White Lips etc….singing some of the old slavery Tunes.

It really was shocking…and could NEVER get AIRED Today, due to the Racism.

My grand parents who brought me up, NEVER thought about the Racist aspect of this ” Show”…they just enjoyed the toe tapping music and the Ballads.

I suspect the majority of UK Households at the time, didnt think about the racist content at the time. It was truly awful nevertheless.

    Sorry for the Trivia.

    HH.

  8. Part of the Bored statement:

‘Neil has the support of the players and staff at the Club.’

Presumably whoever wrote that did not see the clip of Kennedy’s total contempt for Lenny during the match?

Kennedy appears willing to stand back and let Lenny, and our team, crash and burn so that he can get his feet under the table in the Managers room.

I’ll never forgive Lawwell for making me have to avoid my occasional dip into FF to luxuriate in their pain! Haven’t been able to go there for about a month now.

Aff oot to take my anger out on a golf ball!

” Hard core supporters ” are supporters who will support in the bad times as well as the good times.

Your attempts to demonise faithful and dedicated Celtic supporters is in very poor taste and is insulting to many who ” Keep the faith” despite many personal sacrifices.

    Over and over YNWA.

    ###

And if they had prevailed the Rebels would not have won.

The Bunnet would have not acquired Celtic.

But that’s OK. They would have ‘kept the faith’ and ‘been faithful through and through’.

Faithful and dedicated to their own enjoyment.

    Big Jimmy

Kaaarect- the B&W Minstrels were a staple of BBC Saturday night entertainment in my childhood.

My wee mammy recalled that the night my wee nana died, we had been watching with the 5-yo Squire being bounced in his Nana’s knee to them singing You Are My Sunshine. Two nights after Lisbon.

No one considered it racist. God fearing people would’ve been horrified at the idea of being accused of persecuting, prolonging or perpetuating oppression or racism.

Looking back how did they get away with it for so long?

Enjoy your horses m8 and don’t let the moral whingebags on here put you off talking about them.

Has anyone read P67’s piece in the latest news, apologies if it’s not Paul but another contributor

  12. As it’s a beautiful crisp, cold and golden morning here in The ( genuine) Rebel Heartland of Hibernia………….

I’m going to say THAT lucky point on Sunday just might be crucial to the Bhoys in this season’s handicapped hurdle event.

    Yes, indeed.

    HHH.

  13. Holy moly.

That’s makes Pravda under the old board look windswept and interesting.

Wonder if anybody would own up putting there name to that fake news.

Is Lennon still here ? Is Lawwell still here ?

Until those 2 questions are answered No we have not moved forward one millimetre.

It’s that simple —- both need to go. Anything else is unacceptable.

  14. Go tell the Spartim on

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and fair play to those that think along those lines

I could see this being true if it was a couple of draws etc but this is pure pro board fantasy, again the football team are not the focus, this will only add fuel to the fire and have the reverse effect of its intention, we are further adrift from the current board than we’ve ever been, they’ve done nothing, quite the reverse, to address that disconnect.

  15. I bet PL is delighted his crusade to get the fans back into the ground did not bear fruition.

  16. Great minds Go Tell….. I see you caught the article too.

Astounding bawbaggery of the written order.

  17. However wrote that CQN article this morning needs to go to A&E – I fear they’ve OD’ed on Deludamol.

  18. Watchi ng the game last night, the fans seemed to be well spaced out, except for their wee”Jungle” bit.Seemed to be well packed in there.Amazing the atmosphere 2000 fans can give.

We cannot compare 1993 Celts for change to events of today. The parameters are totally different. There is no ” Biscuit Tin ” mentality and we have not endured ” Barron” years.

There will be change, but let’s not equate the two eras.

    HH.

  20. Risk Assessment.

A recognised predictor of future behaviours is analysis of past behaviours, with most recent being especially relevant.

Statement – Celtic will win the next four league games.

Evidence – We have won 1 of last 5 league games.

    Huns 0-2

    Aberdeen 3-3

    Motherwell 4-1

    Hibernian 2-2

    St Johnstone 1-1

Admittedly a small sample but on what basis can people throw out glib aspirations like just win our next four “diddy games”?

There was a debate last night apparently regarding the value of emphasis on past results last season with these being no less likely to indicate events than this season’s.

I get the fact that last year we had one defeat in 31 or whatever before the SPFL was stopped – with the same personnel and that therefore it could be argued Celtic can go on a similar run.

But the more likely scenario in my view is that on recent form – as our host suggested – things will get worse before they get better.

The CQN newsstory strikes me as bordering on delusional and rabblerousery

  21. The first jog along the beach today since the passing of my Dug,for 2 months.Been putting it off.Heart broken since she went, and today was a bit rough.Amazing how they affect your life.Mrs TB,crying when I got back.

Taking patronising to a new level as well.

  23. Bhoy From The Boyne on

Harry’s latest CU podcast is interesting. He asked somebody privy to the differences between BR & NL on topic of culture.

BR/Chris Davies arrived at Lennoxtown by 7:30am every day, went to the gym together and then started the coaches briefing breakfast at 8:30am each morning where the first team management discuss preparations for upcoming game and players needs. Players are given a briefing at 9:45 for that morning’s training session objectives. Nobody could tell on a Monday morning whether Celtic had won, lost or drawn that previous weekend.

Apparently NL arrives into Lennoxtown around 9am and starts training at 10am. Everyone knows whether Celtic has won, drawn or lost that weekend based on tone.

Subtle changes all add up to current culture over 18 months…..
