Further confirmation of where we are

472

The reaction to points dropped yesterday was not on the same level as the disappointment after we similarly rescued a point against Hibs late on the game or went out of the League Cup last week, this one was expected by all and did no more than provide further confirmation of where we are.

This run of two wins in 12 games will eventually end, but by then it will be too late – possibly too late to see off Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final.  In 11 games between now and February, only two are outside Glasgow, short journeys to Hamilton and Paisley, and we have no international fixtures to contend with, but as St Johnstone, Ross County and others have established, that is no comfort.

St Johnstone’s goal was unlike our most in our recent glut.  The defence was briefly in position before breaking into a moment’s disorganisation, Frimpong rushed forward, leaving May unattended, Kane reacted while his marker, Bitton, looked the other way.  Neither Celtic player demonstrated defensive instincts.

Not that the defence is to blame.  The volume of good chances was insufficient to convince anyone a Celtic goal was coming and those that came were missed by our once-prized asset.  The equaliser had more than a touch of good fortune about it.  Whatever ails Celtic, it is not limited to the back line.

This is Celtic – oh and btw – look at our football record on and off the pitch – looks pretty healthy!

Of course these are all important but a winning team is what we all want to see, don’t we?

Without a shadow of doubt this is not in the best interests of the shareholders, quite the opposite

  4. Mikey Johnston has stepped up his recovery for injury as he helped Celtic colts reach the City of Glasgow Cup final with a 3-0 win over Rangers.

The winger hasn’t played since January as he limped off against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park with ligament damage. Since then, Johnston has had surgery on both his calves.

It’s been a gruelling recovery process for the playmaker and Neil Lennon has made sure to ease him back into things so there’s no chance of any form of relapse.

But he took another step in the right direction as he logged 45 minutes for the Hoops youngsters as Tommy McIntyre’s side secured a cup final berth.

An early Amstrong Oko-Flex strike and a brace from Cameron Harper was enough to see off their city rivals.

But it appears the academy graduate could be back sooner rather than later as he gets more playing time under his belt, like he did today.

  5. onenightinlisbon on

Board are basically saying, we don’t care about the ten, we just want to give Neil a nice wee send off at the cup final.

  7. Terrymac Joking aside are they any well helled Celtic Supporters with enough cash to buy out Dermot Desmond, because I think that’s the only way to be rid of him,The 40 Thousand question is could it happen, PS I Think Neil Lennon staying on as Celtic Manager is another slap in the face for our Supporter’s

‪It’s all become quite hunbelievable! ‬

Keeping on a manager who himself admits it will be hard to catch the zombies.

Not one more cent from me Celtic plc.

  9. for the record – my personal Celtic goal is to surpass Rangers “tainted” number of league titles in my lifetime. SO , I’d be happy for them to win the title this year as long as we win the next 6 and so on!

I still think we can win the title this year – but will need 2-3 players in January to hit the ground running

There is something very strange happening and I have no clue as to what is happening, Yet.

This is a board who are obsessed by money, now that being the case sticking by Lenny is going to cost them money, the ten is gone so all the ten merchandising is not happening, a fair few mill I would have thought, as has been said paying off Lenny would cost virtually nothing in the grand scheme of things so either they are as thick as, or they know something, I reckon it’s the former but hope it’s the latter, add in the season books that will not be sold, amounts to a fair few bob me thinks.

    Top trolling by the board with that statement tho :>}

  11. P67 has warned of this in recent articles. “Things will get worse” And todays article, “Here’s where we are”

It seems the club has decided the cheapest option is to retain Neil and buy in January. Perhaps Desmond will change CEO instead of manager.

We have f***ed up 10iar from a position of the utmost ascendancy. Some head/s have to roll for that.

  12. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

This is why Neil Lennon should have been replaced weeks ago: it’s so far gone now that no other manager wants the pressure of trying to win the 10 whilst at the same time cleaning up a mess.

We will get a new manager. Unfortunately it will be when the league is mathematically gone and he’s under no pressure this season.

  13. Celtic youths have beaten the young Huns 3-0. Coach Tommy McIntyre said of the team “They stuck to the game plan which we have been working really hard on”. What? A Celtic coach with a game plan. Surely not?

  14. So its clear there is no candidate ready, willing and able to step in.

Firing Neil to appease the masses without a replacement has been ruled out. It appears sticking with him is the least worst option .

  17. Celtic tonight has released a statement stating that “the Board believes that Neil and his management team are best placed to turn the team’s performances around and lead us on to success.”

They have suggested that this position will only be reviewed in the New Year.

This is the most delusional garbage I have ever read out of Celtic Park.

It confirms that Lennon will get the cup final. It confirms that he will lead the team to Ibrox.

It confirms that the directors have no intention of bowing to the inevitable, even now.

This is a scandalous statement from the club, coached in sentimentalist claptrap such as that they are “(continuing) to operate according to our Club’s values”, which is laughable considering that this is the most self-serving action I have ever seen at Parkhead and in no way consistent with what is in the best interests of Celtic Football Club.

The idea that Lennon can find a way out of this is, clearly, contemptible nonsense.

The idea that he and his coaching team are the best people for this job has never been true, not from the minute they were appointed, and nobody believes it to be even remotely true now.

The people running Celtic are leeching the life out of our club – the manager included – and in the most important season in decades have provoked a stand-off with the supporters which threatens the fabric of everything that has been built since the time of Fergus McCann.

Talk that the club is still on a quest for success is preposterous when one considers the size of the gap in the league, the early exit from the League Cup, the disgraceful performance in the Champions League and the humiliations we have endured in the second tier European competition, where we are last in the group and on the brink of one of the worst finishes in the history of the club and perhaps even the Europa League Group Stage itself.

It is inconcievable that the manager of any other top tier side would have survived this.

The Celtic board cannot hide the simple truth that they have no idea what to do in this situation and no plan for taking the club forward.

These are men without a coherent strategy or plan.

The statement ends with the club thanking the fans for their “magnificent” support and issued a denial that anyone at the club ever suggested that we were “entitled.”

It comes with the usual caveat about all wanting the same things, and the same success.

But tonight’s statement, as with the one last week, has all but guaranteed that there will be no success this season, because we will not win things whilst the present manager is at the helm. He has proved himself utterly incapable of fixing the problems at our club.

Indeed, I don’t believe he even recognises those problems for what they are.

The statement claims that the club is united; I know for a fact that the club is not united, and that key members of the playing staff no longer support the management team; it is high time those players considered their own response to this fantastical rubbish.

The idea that Celtic is one big happy family is a nonsense and to pretend otherwise is to lie to the fans.

Celtic is now run for the benefit of three men; Desmond, Lawwell and Lennon.

None will emerge from this with one iota of supporter sympathy or respect.

    That statement is mortifying.

The people who drafted it have shamed themselves tonight and they have condemned us to a month of frustration and the possibility of greater humiliation to come. It is an insult. It treats us like children, telling us to sit down and shut up as our club rots from the inside.

It is simply beyond belief that they would expect us to do so.

  18. I get up a t 4am / 6am every weekend to watch these awful performances – I hate the current situation BUT I’m not panicking. When Rangers were winning 9 in a row , I still supported with passion. I LOVE BEING A CELT WIN LOSE OR DRAW.

The board have fallen asleep at the wheel – unfortunately they need to wait until Jan to fix the signing mistakes.

It may cost us the league but I think we are still financially dominant and can continue to be dominant on the pitch for years to come.

Show me any team on the planet in the history of football leagues who have dominated their country for 10-15-20 years ?? exactly

get a grip, find some perspective and be grateful you support club like CELTIC!

  19. Reference recruitment etc…..agreed we’ve made a pig’s ear of much of it.

But……we still have enough in that squad to win/have won the league if properly coached.

  22. Seeing beyond this current situation is seeing the bigger picture! I think we need a structural change – I have asked for lennon to be replaced weeks ago. BUT the board has assessed and they have decided to continue as is!

lets get on with it and support the team – I don’t agree with the GB banners, the abuse of the players – how does this motivate them?

  23. Some weeks ago, Ernie suggested there were 3 options available to the Celtic board.

Hopefully, he’ll excuse if I paraphrase a little

    1. Sack the mgt team and recruit aftesh

    2. Improve the mgt team with new blood or operating structure

    3. Do nothing

The latest club statement confirms we’re going with option 3.

Unfair. He had to cut his cloth with a very limited national side but at Stoke this season in a 24 team league, only Norwich and Reading have won more games and only four sides have scored more goals.

Nobody will convince me he isn’t a step up from what we have right now and what we might possibly see in the future.

  25. I get the feeling not many will be celebrating an amazing unprecedented quadruple treble – could be a catalyst to the most remarkable season EVER!

We look back on this moment and ask ourselves – what did I do to help the club and players get through this challenge

  26. STEBHOY on 7TH DECEMBER 2020 7:57 PM

    You’re right – banners don’t motivate them.

Nor does our manager. Nor does wearing the hoops. Nor does going for 10IAR. Nor does the possibility of European credibility.

  27. STEBHOY on 7TH DECEMBER 2020 8:01 PM

You might be right. There’s a good chance many won’t be celebrating a quadruple treble. Hearts fans will be rejoicing at today’s statement.

  28. GEEBEE1978 – so a new manager changes ALL of that??

The mistake was made pre season – crap signings coupled with the mistake of holding onto players who didn’t want to be there!

OR we create a new celtic song – we don’t care as long as we win , win or win !
